Supernatural Gen Drabbles: Accommodating The Truth
Title: Accommodating Truth
Author: HalfshellVenus
Characters: Sam, Dean (Gen)
Rating: PG
Summary: 2x100 drabbles on “Acceptance” for supernatural100.

x-x-x-x-x

Half The Battle
When Sam got The Letter, it was more than he could have hoped for. “Accepted to Stanford”—with a four-year scholarship. He couldn’t believe they’d picked him, despite his revolving-door list of past schools, and the fact that he had a Post Office Box instead of a real address.

But he had a spot now and the means to pay for it. Everything was perfect, for the first time ever.

The thrill lasted fifteen minutes before he realized the scholarship was actually the easy part. Because explaining this whole thing to Dad… was where it all could still break down.

Settling Out
He’d known it back at the hospital, to be honest. Dean could feel it through his endless post-coma haze.

So tempting to deny it, to let hope remain. Even standing beside the pyre, flames licking over that silent shell, he’d still wondered if Maybe, somehow… some way. They trafficked in the Supernatural, with false appearances and ways to cheat death. Why couldn’t Dad have finally figured one out for himself?

But as time went by, Dean had to settle for the obvious no matter the hurt.

Dad was gone, and nothing could change that.

Accept it… and keep on going.

These are just what I meant to write for this promp only I couldn't think of them. ;)

:D As you can see, it took me a little while too. :) The Sam one came right away (oddly enough), but there's been a lot of other writing lately (including this fantasy of finishing the thingy I started for mini_wrimo, which... still creeping through it).

Thank you very much, Rinne. :) It's so nice that you read so many of these drabbles-- I appreciate hearing from you so often!

:) Thank you, bassgrrl! Oh, in Dean's shoes it would be so hard not to let that hope creep in and keep denying it as long as you could. Because once you accept that John is gone, the ever-after is almost too long to bear.

Oh, I love hearing how much the first one got to you! The second one is an obvious choice, but there's a lot of conflict in the first.

I could see the pleasure & pride, the acceptance of what his hard work brought and then feel Sam's heart sink at the hurt and disappointment his news will cause.
And more than that-- he knows he has to do it, because it's too important to deny that part of himself, and at the same time he knows that will be a head-on conflict with John. How sickening that would be, knowing what's coming, worrying about exactly how bad it will get, and later.... being proven correct. :(

I'm glad you noticed that John was the underlying trigger in both stories! So much the center of who the boys are and what they do. :)

One happy and one very, very sad.

Because explaining this whole thing to Dad… was where it all could still break down.
Full ride to Stanford, and Sammy's more tense about telling John. Not that I blame him. The man did use his college fund to buy ammo. :D

he’d still wondered if Maybe, somehow… some way.
Dean and about a thousand fangirls. Maybe we will get him back, somehow.

And also banished him from the family for deciding to go anyway. I think Sam had to sense that possibility-- that the blowup would be the worst he'd ever seen. *cringe*

Dean and about a thousand fangirls. Maybe we will get him back, somehow.
I know-- I must be worse than Dean. Because I still keep hoping.... sexy rogue.

Oh, I know. I'm not sure that I've fully accepted it, because I keep thinking that maybe one day John will make it back. :(

oh. ouch. the settling out, that one was brutal. Because it so would have happened, Dean would not have been able to stop himself from WISHING. Beautiful, darling :)

Oh, how could he? He knows the possibilities, and he knows that John had all that knowledge, had that wily soldier's cunning. I hope for it myself, because I keep thinking that John must have had something hidden up his sleeve, surely. Please?

Thank you, phoenix! The drabbles keep me sharp, I think. So often the focus is easier than in longer stories altogether. :)

I love your snapshots of moments in their lives. You always nail their voices perfectly.

Thank you so much, belleimani. I means so much to me that you find the voices so true-- that's one of the most important elements in fanfiction to me, so it makes me very happy to hear that. :)

Acceptance is a bitter pill to swallow.
Cause that's when the hard part actually starts.
Living with the decision.
