Prison Break Gen Fiction: Joining The Darkness
Title: Joining The Darkness
Author: HalfshellVenus
Character: Mahone (Gen)
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Season 2
Summary: Brief moments at the end of “The Killing Box.”
Author’s Notes: Written for pamalax, who wanted some Mahone (though this is probably not what she meant).

x-x-x-x-x

He hates it when they plead, because it reminds him that he doesn’t do this.

Didn’t used to. He’s not the man he once was or wants to be.

The gun is slippery in his grasp, like back at the police station, back on that farm. Killing doesn’t come easy to him, not even the thought of it. He’s a thinker, not a thug.

It’s for his family, he tells himself, more sins committed in their names than there are circles of Hell. But it’s not their fault, never their fault. It’s to keep them safe, and they must never, ever know.

“Two innocent men,” Scofield continues. Burrows hasn’t been innocent in several decades, but Mahone realizes maybe that’s not what Scofield means. Can’t be helped—he’s not allowed to care now.

And in that briefest of hesitations, Kellerman double-crosses him and Mahone’s chance is gone.

He drops his gun as he falls to the ground, forgotten among the scuffle of vanishing footsteps.

Against the backdrop of the underground ceiling he sees Pam’s face and Cameron’s smile. He knows where he is or was just minutes ago. How did they get here? What does it mean?

Something hurts and he’s getting tired. Soon the light fades into darkness, joining the guilt inside his heart.

Season 1 was a bang, wasn't it? :D What a ride!

Well the hiatus ought to give you a change to torrent the S2 episodes. I realized that you must know how to do that, since you're seeing S2 of Supernatural real-time. Doesn't that have the same problem? Reverse-seasons for airing American shows in Australia?

I love the "two innocent men" insight moment.

I'd miss Mahone more if Kellerman didn;t so rock my world!

:D They're innocent of this crime, but Linc isn't 'innocent' in any other sense (and Michael's lost whatever he still had left of it).

I'm with you on the Mahone & Kellerman thing. "Chucklehead sociopath" I call Kellerman, and he just strangely cracks me up. :D

He could still be alive. Still kind of a whacko, but not necessarily dead.

Although for you, I think this story was mostly "blah-blah- Scofield-blah-Burroughs- blah-blah." ;)

Oh, Yay! I did write it for you, so Yay again!

We didn't actually see him die, and there are tons of police and other people around there. Still a chance he could make it (or that he was shot in the shoulder or something).

Did you get more Mahone fics than mine? Maybe that'll turn your mood a little. :)

I got three after I whined... my kids do it all time so why not, eh?, and there was a great Michael/Mahone fade to black light slash fic earlier in the week so I'm a happy Pam!

I linked all four as rec's on my fan fic friday post at the fic lj this afternoon if you're curious.

Eeeep! Thank you!

Of all the times to finally channel Mahone...

You made me feel great sympathy for Mahone and I'm soooo hoping he isn't dead!

Thank you! It would be so much more interesting if Mahone ISN'T dead. More chances for havoc down the road (which the show seems to thrive on). :)

Absolutely! Here's to a living Mahone and more havoc down the road! *cheers* :D

Thank you-- so glad you liked it! Haven't done Mahone before, but there were a lot of interesting things that came out of that last episode (a turning point for several of the characters).

Your icon cracks me up-- that is both evil and hilarious. :D

Oh, and you have another Mahone's fic in here :P
Loved the part about the family, that he's doing it for them, but that's not their fault and that must never ever know about it. Poor Alex on his hunt - he can't seek help, he can't seek advice. And that line: something hurts and he's getting tired - beautiful!!!
Adding to memories :)

:D I was wondering if you knew about this one. This is my only other Mahone, and it was written for pamalax, of course-- his character had just been shot by Kellerman before the big hiatus, and whether Mahone would survive was really uncertain.

Loved the part about the family, that he's doing it for them, but that's not their fault and that must never ever know about it.
That really IS sad to me-- he does it to keep them from being injured or killed by the very people he works for, but the things he's forced to do to keep that balance would destroy their love for him if they knew. :(

something hurts and he's getting tired - beautiful!!!
That was Kellerman's gunshot, where Mahone was going into shock and losing his grip on what was happening and how badly he was hurt (and leaving the rest of us dangling during the hiatus). He's drifting away and doesn't even realize it.

So glad you liked this-- adding to memories is the best compliement ever! :)

Dear HalfshellVenus!

Recently I have read your fanfic "Leverage", and I want to say that it is really great! Thank you very much for writing it! my opinion.

Would you mind terribly, if I translate this fic into Russian language and publish it on my website (http://litkrasky.ucoz.ru/forum) I will state everywhere that I am just a translator and you are the author of the fic. Also, all the additional information (icg 369755761, luskan@yandex.ru) can be published, if you wish.

Thank you once again for your wonderful work!

Luskan.
