Goodbye, Jinx
It seems like just yesterday that we brought you home from the shelter. I don't know if we would have been brave enough to adopt you if we'd known how many health problems you had, and that we would only get to keep you for five years. But you made that decision for us when you climbed onto the Boy's lap and started to purr like a fiend. You chose him right from the beginning, and your love for him never wavered.

We haven't heard it for a while, but you were the only cat we'd ever met that had such a loud trilling purr, with actual notes! Also the only 4-year-old who still liked to chase her tail, and had a whole ritual in place for it. You loved playing with the Boy and sleeping in his bed, as well as sitting on HalfshellHusband's lap while he ate lunch. Evenings were mostly mine, when you sat on the sofa next to me and dozed, and I leaned over to moosh my head into yours and give you circular pets.

It took several years to break through your trust issues, but you were a sweet little cat and a good friend to everyone, and the house is so very empty without you now. I never expected to lose you so soon, or that it would be forest-fire smoke that finally proved too much for your heart to cope with, and took you from us so suddenly. You had so much personality, and you deserved so much more time to nap in pools of sunlight and follow your Boy around the house and be petted and loved and cherished.

I sure cried writing it. She was four when we got her, and I thought we would have so much more time with her-- 8-12 years at least! It's so hard to know when cats are doing poorly, because they hide their health problems so well, and she was showing some possible signs of aging. But that wildfire smoke... it made her wheeze, and though we kept it out of the house for about 4-5 days, once it finally got in she was hit with it for at least 5-6 days. It was just too much. :(

Thank you. It is SO hard to lose a little furry friend. They're so much a part of the family.

So sad. I'll bet the Boy is sad, too.

Oh, yes. He was just devastated by the news, even though he knew it was coming, and he feels so awful about being away at college when it happened. Poor boy. :(

She really was, and very attached to her family-- the Boy most of all, but she spent such good time with all of us. We sure miss her.

Thank you so much. She had such personality, and was so happy to see her people! I miss that little trill over her jumping up on the couch for pets, or coming into the bathroom in the morning when she realized I was up.

*HUGS*

I'm so sorry for your loss. She seems like a sweet kitty. I like her sleeping in the suitcase. Was that when the Boy was supposed to go back to college? I thought I remember you posting about that.

I thought the suitcase was when he was on the way to back to college at some point, but I'm not sure. What isn't clear from that picture is that this was all happening in his closet! He opened the door, and she was in there, snoozing inside his suitcase.

She sure missed him every time he left. When we all went on vacation, I think it was different, but his trip away for 4 days one summer and then 7 days the next... boy, she was talkative when he got back. She waited outside the bathroom for him once, and when he opened the door, "Mowra-rowra-rut!" SO many thoughts.

Thank you! She was such a character, and she enjoyed her family immensely. The house is so empty without her now. :(

*hugs back* Thank you. I keep expecting to hear her coming around the corner, or scritching at the bathroom door to be let in. Things just feel so empty. :(

Sorry for your loss. He looks like a right character.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on December 15th, 2018 06:33 pm (UTC)
She was a delightfully weird little cat, and SO fixated on her Boy. Our daughter used to lament getting so much less attention from her, and the one day said, "I'm glad, because at least she's not following me around like a little stalker!"

Sour grapes, though, perhaps. Who could resist being adored that much?
Peter: Make Tea Not Warpeterb on December 19th, 2018 11:06 pm (UTC)
Our dog was the same. He absolutely adored me, and when I went off to uni, he would sleep for weeks at a time by the front door, waiting for me. He also used to think he was higher up in the pecking order than my younger brother, and routinely growled at him whenever he entered a room the dog was in.

The dog died sat on my knee. Still miss that dog. Daft as a brush, but a character several times his size.
