Whoops, throwing this up while I still can
I have done nothing about Halloweening the outside of the house, but I'm using this fabulous icon here before I run out of time.

So, the birthday came and went. Hopes of taking Friday off died with several work deadlines all finishing up then. I worked all day and still had to log back in at night to get stuff finished before midnight. /o\

However, HalfshellHusband was able to find me a tiny chocolate-chocolate cake, which was wonderful! I'm still largely off sugar, so a treat that lasts only 2-3 days is ideal. And it was delicious. ;)

In other news, Netflix cancelled Luke Cage (the only Marvel show I actually watch), which is disappointing. It was a great vehicle for Mike Colter, and a terrific opportunity for a lot of talented black actors-- a whole cast's worth! Fine, Netflix, whatever. :(

We've started watching Westworld on DVD, a show with a fascinating premise which makes us both a little nervous. The gratuitous T&A and the increasing amounts of sociopathic violence might eventually make that show unwatchable for us, much like Game of Thrones. Why did HBO have to be the network to back that show, instead of something like Showtime? Speaking of which, we're finally getting caught up on Homeland and the constant train wreck that is Carrie Matheson's life.

Out in the world itself, this is some of the best bicycling weather of the year, in terms of temperature, though the chance of fierce winds is always higher in the Spring and Fall. Today's ride was pretty good, other than my wearing my t-shirt inside-out because I thought it already WAS when I inverted it over my head and put it on. I think that's probably kind of a metaphor for my life as a whole right now...

I found out about Luke Cage too. My husband the Marvel universe guru says he's not surprised, given that Disney is gradually pulling all their shows from Netflix and starting their own streaming service. They're leaving both Daredevil and Jessica Jones at Netflix for now, though. Interesting that they both have high viewerships, hmm.

That said, I was also looking forward to season 3 :sigh:

We're almost done with season 3 of The Man In The High Castle on Prime. It's brutal but timely given our current political landscape.

I guess I don't mind so much if Disney wants to reclaim the series... so long as they keep the same cast/setting/etc? Which may not be workable.

Because otherwise, NOOoooooooooooo! Why would you let that Mike Colter opportunity escape?

I think trying out The Man in the High Castle might be too much for me, given our political situation! Much the way things like The West Wing and Designated Survivor were hard to watch from the opposite perspective-- earnest people trying to do good things with government instead of screw over everyone but their golfing buddies.

I do like Rufus Sewell, though...

He's amazing. Sometimes I just want to climb the highest mountain and demand he gets an Emmy. I don't think he was even nominated last year. I don't want to spoil anything since you haven't watched it, but suffice to say that his character has gotten more complicated and sympathetic this season.

Ugh, that sucks. Yay for cake though.

I did like Luke Cage, though it wasn't my favourite. It is a shame to see it go.

I LOVE Westworld. It is definitely among the best of what television currently has to offer.

Westworld is fascinating so far, though we've already entered what seems like the gratuitous full-on porn realm, where it's just all over the place, and I get so tired of it. The first town's brothel was more implication, but the episode 5 (?) city is ALL porn, even out on the streets, and all male-gaze all the time. Give me a break!

It's interesting to see Anthony Hopkins here, though, and wonder what exactly he's up to behind that benevolent smile. ;)

I'm okay with the porn as long as what's happening around it is still interesting, but I know what you mean.

He is indeed up to a lot.

Happy belated birthday!

Yay for chocolate-chocolate cake. That's always a welcome treat in my household :D

Alicia loves Westworld. I haven't watched it yet. I have heard that it does have a high level of violence. I feel that same way about Game of Thrones. I almost gave up on it as well.

I'm two seasons behind on Homeland. I'm so bad about getting behind on a show and then losing track of it and all of a sudden I'm a season or two behind, like with The Blacklist. I'm slowly catching up on that.

I was talking to a co-worker one day and mentioned that her tag was sticking out of her shirt and she asked me to tuck it in. After trying I realized she had her shirt on inside out. It didn't really faze her, lol.

Chocolate-chocolate cake is my favorite. Others are good, but that one's the best!

We did stop watching GoT in early S2, which is a lot earlier than many violence-averse people bailed out!

I try not to get too far behind on shows both my husband and I watch, but if it's just me, that's another story. Then I have to watch it when he's not around, which is not often! And leads to being really far behind.

I want to be the kind of co-worker who, when she realizes her shirt has been inside-out for awhile, just laughs it off and will probably tell others about it later as an invitation for them to mock her!

a tiny chocolate-chocolate cake! better than just a slice of chocolate-chocolate cake. sucks that you had to work late on your birthday, but at least you had a little cake.

i've seen speculation that netflix canceled luke cage because disney wanted to put it on its own streaming service, but i have no idea if that's really why.

the fact that you were wearing your shirt inside-out because you thought it already was inside-out, so you turned it inside-out, cracks me up.

That's what Kizzy said about Luke Cage above. If that's true, then my main worry is that they might recast the series. Which... aughhhh! It's perfection, don't screw it up.

My t-shirt thing is like a ouroboros of overthinking something while not actually looking very hard at it to begin with!
