Brain Bleach...
I watched God's Own Country on Netflix last weekend. The explicit M/M sex wasn't a problem (it never is!), but I would definitely have welcomed a warning for "graphic animal husbandry." Holy moly! The movie was set in rural Yorkshire during calving and lambing season, and there was more realism than I ever want or need. :O

Apart from some of the terminology (like owt, nowt, and anyroad), you probably wouldn't think this was Yorkshire, because none of the actors actually sound as if they're from there. I say this having recently been immersed in Happy Valley and having also looked up Tan from the Queer Eye reboot to see if was from Scotland (because the Yorkshire dialect sounds about 80-90% of the way to being Scottish, to me).

Still, I enjoyed the movie, once I stopped hating the main character, and I'm halfway to being in love with the Romanian character. But NOT with the ins and outs (literally) of assisting farm animals in giving birth. /o\

I loooooooved Happy Valley. I might need to look this one up-- it wasn't on my radar.

I really enjoyed it, too. It was in my "To watch" list forever, because HalfshellHusband frequently is not in the mood to watch darker (or even heavy) stuff. But I liked it quite a bit! Season 2 is still sitting there...

You might enjoy London Spy if you haven't already seen it (dramatic, tense, slashy, sad), and I always recommend Doc Martin for scenery and snark. And oh, the minor characters!

Clint and I watched London Spy-- I always love watching anything either Ben Whishaw or Jim Broadbent are in, and they were very good in it of course. It was a bit oppressive for me overall, though. I mean, it's not like Happy Valley is, well, happy, but it's got a dark humor to it and I'm here for that main actress kicking some ass.

Have you tried Shetland? I think you'd like that one.

Yes-- we liked Shetland quite a bit (and are impatient for a new season). I kind of ship Jimmy/Duncan in that, and I have a soft spot for McIntosh.

We also liked Hinterland, which was austere but good. I so wish we could watch it in Welsh with English subtitles via streaming, just to help me learn a bit more Welsh.

We also liked Hinterland! I think I'd watch that just for the scenery and all the stone houses-- what a dreamy place!

It certainly isn't meant to entice tourism. It's set in probably the bleakest part of Wales, vs. Shetland which would make you think it's sunny most of the time. Which I doubt is true. ;)

I guess I like bleak! In theory, anyway... I'd probably end up with a happy light box attached to my face or something.

Sophia and I are watching Justified together-- you're a Justified fan, right? I watched the first 3 seasons and then got behind and never caught up, so I started from the beginning with her and I'm loving it all over again.

Have you watched Endeavor?

Yes, I loved Justified! My Yuletide story this year was for Justified.

We haven't watched Endeavor. Is it any good? Haven't watched any of the Inspector Morse series, either. Big fans of Luther and Prime Suspect, though. :)

Yeah, Endeavor is really well done, and also just a pleasure to LOOK at. I haven't watched any of the older Morse stuff, and you don't need to in order to watch Endeavor. There's a new season coming out this summer, too!

I think the show itself is shipping Jimmy/Duncan. Their relationship is just on this side of one raised eyebrow.

They need to hurry up with the new season. Hopefully the crime(s) won't be as convoluted as the one in Season 3.

I've meant to watch Happy Valley, etc., but I've got a serioys super hero fanboy here who can only do mystery and dark in small doses unless it has a sci-fi bent :sigh:

Gah, super heroes? I imagine that must get old. :O But otherwise, it sounds much like my problem!

Happy Valley was good, and the main character just rocks, so it's worth seeing even if you're the only one watching.

The old armpit length rubber glove treatment?

How did you know?!?

Yes, among other things.

I can see the use of it, but I never wanted to know that such things were manufactured. Yark.

There was a TV programme called All Creatures Great and Small broadcast when I was younger. A stalwart of weekend TV.

I remember reading the books, and while fascinating, even then I thought it was all TMI. ;)

I hadn't heard of Happy Valley -- will have to give that one a watch.

It was good, and the main character is a strong female cop. The first episode, there's definitely a sort of 'western sherrif' feel to her, and that's refreshingly unusual. :D
