So, that thing last week...
We survived our son's random middle-of-the week massive sleepover party last Wednesday night. It was kind of hot in the space we use as a family room (where the pocket doors can be shut to limit the noise), but it had also been yet another 100-degree day. The boys went out swimming, with many reminders (and one visit) to keep the noise down for the neighbors. Eventually, the 5 or 6 of them that were left were just hanging out in the pool talking quietly for several hours, which sounds like some fears and sadness were getting worked over.

Unexpected as the whole thing was, I'm glad we did it as it really was the last chance for all of them to get together—possibly ever, if we're being honest. Now, three of the boys are on vacation, one has moved to New York, and one went to college early for some late-summer class (he's the oldest in his family, so I'll bet his parents weren't especially happy to have him be gone sooner than necessary!)

Work-work-work the rest of the week. Saturday, we went out of town for a graduation party, and the to/from time and the rest of the weekend were taken up trying to write my Idol story. Which did NOT want to be anything notable. Monday morning, I finally came up with the kind of idea I'd been looking for, and wrote that all the way through Tuesday. That Idol story is here, and there's a link to the poll and the other entries at the bottom. We could use more readers and voters, so please take a look!

Side-effect of all that? The song "Saved By Zero" has been in my head since the prompt came out last Friday...

In this hell we call Sacramento, the heat was > 90-degrees every day in July. Which is to say, > 94-degrees all but two days, and mostly AROUND 100 OR ABOVE. Which will be the case for the foreseeable future, too. I'm seriously dreading the electricity bill. It'll probably be between $300 and $400. /o\

Off to DC at the end of next week, and I don't even have a hotel booked yet. THIS is my life...

I imagine the boys will have life long memories of that night. What a wonderful thing you and your husband did for your son and his friends.

I checked our weather for July and we had 24 out of 31 days of 100 degrees or higher heat. We're starting to get into the really hot part of the summer. It's such a great feeling in late September when you realize that your last 100 degrees day is finally over for the year :)

I loathe saying that I'm used to the heat because it feels I've given up on ever living anywhere with normal temperatures again. Which I haven't!

All the boys had a good time, and it sure meant a lot to my son. There's such a scattering after high school, where you may get together with one or two friends at a time over the coming years, but probably not all of the kids you used to pal around with. His is a group of 8 or 9 boys, so it's even harder than the 3-4 girls my daughter spent so much time with in high school.

I don't know how you stand the weather in Texas-- it's even worse than here! Though I think Phoenix still has both places beat, but ugh. I hate the heat so much.

I do find that around here, it only takes up to about mid to late June before you're grateful if the high for the day is ONLY about 92 degrees. And finding that becoming about the best you can hope for is pretty sad!
