Post-Op News
So, HalfshellHusband now has a pacemaker. When his cardio tests were run yesterday to see whether he needed one, the doctor decided it was inevitable and that he might as well do the surgery that day, since he had time.

It's in, and everything is looking good. Makes us feel slightly less bad about the hip replacement being postponed for a month due to wanting to run those tests. Having a pacemaker at HSH's age (60) is unnerving, but I guess we're lucky that treatment exists.

He's mostly feeling pretty good right now. I'm tired and stressed (I ate an entire bag of chocolate chips last night—augh). So, have some humor for all of us:

Playing dress-up with the Queen of England. Bat-queen to the rescue!

I hope he feels better soon-- I can't imagine waiting so long for relief from pain. And I hope you get to relax!

I wish it hadn't resulted in him having to postpone his surgery for a whole month, but if the pacemaker was necessary, I'm glad they did it.

He should be able to take the sling off his arm in about 10 days (something else we weren't planning on!), and overall I'm hoping that there's some slim chance the ortho surgeon might be able to move up the hip surgery. Probably not, but that would be such a blessing.

*hugs* glad the surgery went well. Hope the hip operation happens asap x
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on June 21st, 2016 10:18 pm (UTC)
Thanks!

Me too-- he's using a cane inside the house, and can barely move, and that's apart from the pain keeping him awake all night. :(

So glad the pacemaker surgery was a success! One down, and one to go. Will be keeping you'all in my prayers.

Loved the Queen's techno-fashion. Some of them looked really good. :-)

Big hugs all round.

P.S. Forgive yourself for the choc-chips. I would have done the exact same thing...and the guilt. We are nothing if not predictable. Did Shakespeare say that? If not he should have! ;-)

I liked the Queen ala Hello Kitty and the Riddler as well. :)

The pacemaker makes me nervous. HSH says it doesn't affect his long-term prognosis, but it's a reminder of nothing being guaranteed there as it is. The hip is horrible pain right now, but his heart is the part that's at risk for the future. *sigh*

I'm glad the procedure went well, and the stress eating is easily understood. good wishes!

Thank you!

Yes, it's not just the stress of the "now" but of the future as well. It's hard not to worry.

I have a neighbor, age 70 who had one last yr and 2 cousins who had that done around age 80 and lived till 90...did not pass from cardiac issues.
Just let the airlines and TSA know if you / he will be flying!

TSA can add the pacemaker to the list of what will bet TWO metal hips by then, setting off metal detectors right and left.

I'm glad that the surgery went well and that the hip operation is soon.

Now relax.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on June 22nd, 2016 06:13 am (UTC)
Thank you!

The relaxing is hard-- there is suddenly more to do around the house, and this is giving us a "preview" of how that will be after the hip surgery. Thank goodness the sling is on his left hand this time-- he had his right arm in a cast after he broke his wrist in October, and he's really right-handed. That nearly drove him nuts.

i'm glad hsh is doing ok! sounds like postponing the hip surgery wasn't a bad idea, altho it still sucks that he has to wait.

i think my favorite queen is the weather-wearing queen. they should've found a nice corgi print to put over her green screen outfit.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on June 22nd, 2016 06:15 am (UTC)
The real problem with delaying the hip surgery is the pain issue. Also that if you drop your "spot," it can be awhile before the doctor has an opening again. So, the surgery should have been last Friday but for this heart appt. yesterday. Now it'll be almost exactly a month later.

In pain hours, that seems like forever.

I did like the weather-queen version, with the guy in the background doing his schtick. :D

Wow, that was a fast surgery booking! Glad it's dealt with.

That's true-- you usually don't get that kind of turnaround! But that way, it'll be free and clear when the hip surgery shows up in a month.

I know there were concerns about the combination of the heart issue and general anaesthetic, so the hip surgeon will be happier about this all the way around.

he may be young for these things, but he's (and you because of it) had so much bother these last years, at least it's on the way to healing and being done
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on June 23rd, 2016 10:12 pm (UTC)
I sure hope so. The congestive heart failure issue is the scariest part of all of this, as it isn't something that ever gets better and has serious consequences. But this can't hurt it. And oh, do we want the hip to be replaced so it will stop inundating him with pain.
Maz (or foxxy!): MS Hugstuesdaeschild on June 23rd, 2016 02:52 pm (UTC)
Firstly I am glad to hear that HalfshellHusband is looking good with his newly fitted pacemaker. I suppose it was best to get it done while there was time since it was inevitable anyway. Sixty is young but I suppose it's all relative. Here's wishing him (and you too, of course) well. ♥

Secondly thank you so much for the lovely vgift and the sweet birthday wishes. I did have a good birthday, thank you...and there was wine! :)

Thirdly I thought Her Majesty's new coloured outfits looked bang on trend!! For a lady of ninety she really is amazing, isn't she?

Have you been keeping an eye on what's happening with the new limited season of Prison Break? It's likely to be on our screens in September and there are several of the original fandom members eagerly awaiting it's return. I just hope it isn't disappointing.

Thank you again, my friend. I really do value your friendship, even if we're not communicating all the time; the friends I made through PB are pretty special. :) ♥

You're so welcome, and I'm glad it was a good birthday! Nice time of year to be having a birthday in your part of the world, too!

I haven't been keeping up with the Prison Break news. I wonder it that appeals more to the Michael/Sara fans? Or, at least those who watched the 4th season? I just couldn't do it-- it was the final destruction of canon for me, bringing back a dead, headless character. And that was after the retcon on the boys' father (which was all, "La-la-la-la-la" to me). I believe worse happened with the character of the mother in S4.

My canon stops in S3, and my happiest version of the show is the whole AU I went to after the end of S1. Am I wrong? Are they attempting to resurrect part of the show's "middle" instead?
