Prison Break Slash Fanfiction: Payback
Title: Payback
Author: HalfshellVenus
Characters: Lincoln/Michael (Slash)
Rating: NC-17
Summary: If they were different, this is how it would be…
Author’s Notes: First, this is kind of dark by nature of the challenge. musicophilia requested a Lincoln/Michael slash drabble with Dominant Michael, which is a major challenge to how I view the characters. In looking through the fanfic100 table, where I have the slash pairing of Lincoln and Michael, this idea surfaced from prompt #82, “If.” Because this is an approach I can work with…

x-x-x-x-x

If they were different, Michael would work that guilt into the ground.Collapse )

Yay! Oh, and-- I may seriously consider stealing that icon. Yowza.

Whee! Thank you so much! Not my usual thing, but I seem to be getting some good results writing outside my box. So glad you liked it. :)

I admire how you turn the fic into a "would have" situation. This is exactly how I would have pictured you handling this challenge. I agree with your interpretation -- Michael's sexual dominance is more of a seductive aggression, namely, I could never see Michael really topping Lincoln. I don't think Michael makes a very good top (at least not for Lincoln).
I also agree with your rationale on a possible psychological dominance (the "IOU" issue). This is where the "would have" / "should have" comes in, since the real Michael would never demand payback from Lincoln (he thinks Linc has made enough sacrifice for him). Michael is also too altruistic for asking for retributions.
As always, loved it!
Wonder what you think the season 2 dynamic would be for the two brothers?

:) I should have consulted you, because I was stymied for a week-and-a-half over how to make this work, since it goes against my interpretation of Michael.

I don't think he does in general (really, I think he'd be the opposite for Lincoln, and perhaps more 'egalitarian' as a whole in most relationships). I love your description of dominance through sexual aggression-- that's exactly what's going on. He's turning Lincoln's weaknesses against him, using them to get what he wants out of frustration and a sense of having given away too much. And it works SO much better as a fantasy he wants to indulge, knowing that he never really will.

Wonder what you think the season 2 dynamic would be for the two brothers?
We've already seen a little more love/closeness in the Season Premiere-- more touching, and more just being "in synch" with each other now that they can be around each other for more than snatched and panicked moments trying to plan and carry out the impossible. I hope we'll see some of the closeness that justifies Michael's choices, and honestly hope to see some of the bickering that's likely to happen as well. I am deathly afraid that it's all going to be "Michael longs for Sara from afar and vice-versa." :(

Have you seen the premiere yet? You're in London, aren't you? Do you get the episodes real-time?

Fabulous!! It just blew me away! And the way you wrote it, as though this is what Michael desperately wants but is a little too reserved to demand, is breathtakingly wonderful!

This could very well lead to more Dominant!Michael! Cuz we have a picture of what he'd look like dominating Lincoln now and bloody hell! it's a gorgeous picture!!

Thank you, sweetheart!

I think of it as the fantasy he turns to on a bad day-- that he wants something like a sexual relationship with Lincoln, but the fantasy turns angry and dominating when he's in a foul mood. And whoo-- it IS a sexy picture, isn't it?

So glad you liked it! ♥

As always, you blow me away. Your fics were my introduction to Prison Break fanfic, and I've loved everything you've written.

Then I had the good fortune to follow a link to one of your Supernatural fics, which was a show I'd never watched until I read your story. Now you have the honor of completely corrupting me in 2 fandoms. LOL

You rock!

Heh-heh! Never had anyone put it that way before, though I know I've tempted several PB folks to try out the "Supernatural" waters-- and they haven't been dissatisfied. Despite their similarities, they really are such different shows, with different dynamics and issues (and I don't just mean in an "impending death sentence!" vs. "mumbly-rotten-childhood demon-hunting uh-oh, Vampire!" kind of way).

So glad you're reading and enjoying both fandoms though. Aren't they worth it? *hugs*

Deep.
This one fucked up my mental head space on how I usually view the boys.
I like that Michael knew he could do it. Felt as if he would do it. Knows that he could take it.
However the idea of it never really occurred to me and seeing it in print well that just kind of blew my mind.
Now the how and why and when this could, would, or should happen well that throws me a bit. Seeing as how the circumstances of there very lives at this point throws everything in a constant state of flux. I'm very much intrigued.

Oh, mine too. It's one of the reasons I was driven to this particular approach, because it really challenges my view of the characters.

And yet, I can almost see Michael doing this. And it's disturbingly hot at the same time. :0

Oh Halfshell, you may have outdone yourself with this one. Have I mentioned that I love love LOVE when you take a stroll into the darker side of Michael's psyche? I love the style, tone and content of the whole of your work, but when you manage to capture darker aspects without writing dark!fic I truly begin to squee. I love your characterization of Michael in this piece. And that image of face-fucking pretty much wins.

I think you mentioned loving Lincoln's dark side, on the "Bound By Love" story. Clearly, the darker side of characters is appealing to readers! I need to get over my reluctance, especially if this is true: when you manage to capture darker aspects without writing dark!fic I truly begin to squee. I always worry that I am writing dark!fic. It's hard for me to tell, since my dark filter is set pretty low.

If I can walk that line, it's all to the good. When it's too dark, it ooks me out. Perhaps I can build resistance... ;)

And that image of face-fucking pretty much wins.
It's so rude and hot here. I feel like someone else wrote that! (It was Michael. Yes, that's it).

*flogs self* I don't understand how I missed the last few comments on this story, but 2 1/2 years later I'm sure glad they're here.

And very glad you enjoyed this, back in the day. :D

Blah, you need a comment link after the comments... I like to read what other people say before I go and repeat them less articulately ;)

Anyway... That was... phew, is it warm in here? Must just be me.

I love Michael taking what he deserves for all of the *bad* thins that Lincoln has done. It's such a great counterpoint to what he acts on, which are all of the good things.

I have to take exception, though, to the people who don't think he could go through with it. In more than a few relationships, people go after what they need to complete themselves. Michael sees Lincoln's strength and is attracted to that protection. Lincoln sees Michael's devotion and intelligence and is attracted to that stability and sensibility. In the same way, Michael has been ravaged by forces he can't control his entire life-- he could be attracted to any opportunity to exert dominance. Following that, if Lincoln was tired of always having to be the responsible one, making decisions and dealing with consequences, I don't see it being a problem for him to be the submissive one in that relationship. Presto! Top!Michael and bottom!Lincoln. Maybe it's just me, though =)

Argh, I don't know how I missed these last comments way back when!

In the same way, Michael has been ravaged by forces he can't control his entire life-- he could be attracted to any opportunity to exert dominance.
I could believe this entirely, and we've already seen what a control-freak he is. But I can't see Lincoln giving into him that way. Lincoln has always seemed too hypermasculine for that-- right to the core, as if it's innately him and he couldn't stop being that way even if he tried. Add problems with impulse-control to that, and you have the entire background of how he wound up going to prison again and again.

Glad you enjoyed this, and I wish you were "around" here still!

I think we tend to view the characters similarly so I clicked on this while thinking "what the hell is she gonna do here?!" and I have to say I loved this because it is an "if" situation that I can see Michael entertain in his darker moments. This adds to his layers and complexities, because I don't think he could be this man... but he may just thing about it once or twice.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: PB slashhalfshellvenus on July 23rd, 2010 06:56 pm (UTC)
It was a really great opportunity to explore a dark fantasy (which is also kind of hot). I can't see Michael actually doing this either, but there have to be moments when he's fed up enough that he darn well thinks about it!
