Supernatural Gen Drabble: Uncertainties
Title: Uncertainties
Author: HalfshellVenus
Characters: Mary (Gen)
Rating: PG
Summary: Belatedly written for the supernatural100 challenge #32 on “Firsts.”

She’d quit her job at the card shop two months ago, and the walls had been closing in ever since.

She readied the nursery, endured daily phone calls from her mother. Boy or girl, she wondered? Playful like her sister? Or serious and strong?

She busied herself with books and ideas—so many methods to raising children, and no two authors agreed! What if she was bad at being a mother? What then?

One morning a wave of pain hit her, growing hourly until her breath was gone.

“John,” she said, “it’s time.”

She left Fate to decide the rest.

To bad Fate was being a bitch at the time.
It's so sad-- because how could anyone have known?

Such wonderful innocence and happy expectation. A far cry from the world her children live in now.
And from her horrible and undeserved ending. The irony just tells itself with that final line, though the overall mood of the drabble is so sweet.
