The wheel keeps on spinning...
I thought I was going to post this up last week, but then it was Saturday, then Sunday. Time just flies.

My dad's wake is next Saturday (also the beginning of Spring Break), so I spent the weekend on high-priority chores that I won't be able to do next week. Namely, finishing off the taxes, and putting systemic bug-control/fertilizer on all the rose bushes (4 1/2 hours just for that). My back is killing me!

In previous weekends, I dug up and scanned pictures of my dad to send to my sister—she's assembling the slideshow and doing most of the planning in general. Last week, she discovered that my dad's favorite color was orange. Nobody except my mom knew that! All of these years, he'd been dragging moss-green drapes, bedspread, and sofas from house-to-house, so we assumed that was his favorite color. Nope. Apparently, one of the few things my mother put her foot down on over the years was the concept of decorating a house in orange.

In the past month or so, both kids completed the county competitions for their various fake-law thingies. My son's sophmore team took first place in the county's Moot Court competition, and my daughter's placed second again for Mock Trial (really frustrating, as they lost to this team last year, and should have won both times). We spent a lot of time at the courthouse from mid-February to mid-March. Meanwhile, my office moved to a new building, with all-smaller cubicles. That's been quite an adjustment. I still haven't figured out how to cope with the added distraction of so many more people talking/moving close by.

If you don't watch The Simpsons, you might have missed last week's mid-episode Game of Thrones homage (not a great recording, but I couldn't find a better one. Watch the first 47 seconds of this). I hadn't realized that there was another one for the opening credit sequence about three years ago. Must have been pre-Tivo, when our recording success was less reliable.

And now? Off to bed, already late for the beginning of another work-week. Ullhhhh....

i don't watch game of thrones, but that simpsons opener is pretty cool.

i think your mom had the right idea about decorating. there were probably two years in the 70s when orange would have been an ok color to decorate with, but otherwise? not so much. (full disclosure: the house we lived in in nashville had an orange-and-silk-wallpaper dining room. from the chair rail up it was black chinesey fabric wallpaper with i think birds on it, and from the chair rail down it was painted orange. my mom really liked orange. but also, she decorated it in the mid-70s when that was ok.)

congrats to christopher's moot court team!

During that 70s period, we acquired avocado-colored appliances. So again-- green! But yes, orange just feels very "loud" to me as a color, and apart from my sister's orange bathroom (tied together by a copy of Van Gogh's "Sunflowers"), it's hard to imagine that working. Though TBH, I tend to prefer pastel colors to the more vibrant ones.
