Road Trip 2, the reversening...
Well, our brief trip up to Oregon to visit my parents is coming to a close. We'll be driving home tomorrow (an 8-hour trip, IF we're lucky and the weather is good). My Dad is really slowing down, and hasn't bounced back from the broken ankle/surgery/recuperation that started back in October. He's still using a walker, still kind of unsteady, and just very tired. I'm hoping he'll improve once he's allowed to move more freely, but he's also 88, so it's hard to say. Keeping my fingers crossed.

My daughter and I recently saw The Imitation Game (it was terrific!) while my husband and son watched The Hobbit: 3. The plan was for the family to see the same movie, but since my daughter didn't want to see The Hobbit, Penguins of Madagascar, or Into the Woods, and my son didn't want to see either of the two big dramas my daughter was interested in... it became a parallel activity. We certainly all enjoyed our specific offerings, though.

Speaking of offerings: I received both a full story and a bonus treat from Yuletide this year!
  • Tenth Avenue Freeze Out is a Die Hard 4 John/Matt story (PG-13) in which Matt is snarky and awesome and John is crabby and concerned.
  • A Great Idea is a Reaper story, perfectly summed up as "Sock has a good idea, which means it's probably bad." How I miss the Work Bench crowd and their antics! For so long, I held onto the dream that a cable station might pick up that show and revive it. *pouts* What a fantastic cast, and such clever writing.

Haven't done any writing in the last week (I did not even squeak out Yuletide Madness stories of my own, for the first time in years). I've been in an unhappy frame of mind (work-related), and getting Christmas together was hard enough this year. Another week before I return to the office, which doesn't feel like much right now. :(

Looking forward to some down time at home after our return, in which I fantasize that I will clean up/organize parts of the house instead of frittering away my time with online jigsaw puzzles and Spider Solitaire. I will definitely be watching the Ducks play in the Rose Bowl on Thursday, though, and how terrific that Marcus Mariota got the Heisman Trophy. He is an amazing athlete, and by all indications a very fine human being as well. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. :D

I also got HalfshellHusband both Despicable Me movies for his birthday, as he loves the minions something fierce. Three of us will be watching those soon, I'm sure (but not my daughter, who does not find the minions funny, can you believe it?) Also, on the drive up north, we ran across Minion Mike & Ike candy at a gas station, which features blueberry and banana candies (HalfshellHusband's favorites after chocolate). We bought them, of course. That is the most authentic blueberry-flavored anything I've ever tasted that was not actual blueberries. Wow. A fine acquisition!

All right, off to bed before the endless trek in the mobile jail cell that is our car. Hope you're all having some time off, and doing some very fine nothing along the way. :)

I'm not a Mike & Ike fan either (except as cake decorations), but minions? Always a plus!

I don't know what my daughter's issues are. She keeps saying that she doesn't like "stupid" humor, but I'm not sure how that applies to Penguins or Minions. Mainly, I think she's distancing herself from things that seem juvenile (such as, animated movies). What a loss!
