Prison Break Gen Fiction: "A New Day" (PG)

Title: A New Day
Author: HalfshellVenus
Characters: Lincoln, Michael. (Gen)
Rating: PG
Summary: Hope seems unreal after so long without it.
Author's Notes: For mashimero, who wanted Michael & Lincoln or Michael/Lincoln, watchful gaze.
Also for prisonbreak100, this is "Lightening.

Dawn was coming.

The sky had shifted from black to indigo, and the sun would breach the horizon within the hour. Michael slept while Lincoln sat with his back against a tree, his vigilance born of restless dreams and the feeling that he had let Michael carry the weight of their future far too long.

Michael wouldn't complain or even blame him. Death Row stole a man's life years before he drew his final breath.

Against all odds, Michael had saved him, and now they ran to keep the freedom Lincoln had never thought he'd have again.

Returning to the role of protector—even just for the night—helped restore the balance Lincoln's life had lost years ago. He could believe in a future, in a chance to become a better person again, as long as he kept his brother safe.

Darkness slowly lifted, like clouds drifting away from the sun. The new day brought hope and possibility now. Mornings no longer meant the end was one step closer.

Each day was a new beginning, and Lincoln was finally ready to embrace that.
