It's all a blur...  
I spent a lot of the weekend working toward a coding deadline that is today. Got the bulk of my problem solved, but some lingering details are not yet fixed—and I'm not sure why and it's almost midnight. \o?

I bicycled and Idoled, and watched the Oregon Ducks beat Utah. That game featured a horrific turnover that the Ducks used to their advantage (making up for a bad call earlier that cost them a touchdown drive). I'm really impressed with their freshman running-back, Royce Freeman, who is the king of evasive maneuvers. He frequently rolls, dodges, and wriggles his way into gaining 3-5 more yards than any other player would have done. On Saturday, he dug his heels into the turf and backpedaled the three guys trying to tackle him, resulting in another 1- to 2-yard gain instead of loss. Never seen that before! There were some worrisome player injuries (several seniors, which is bad news for their future careers), and a heartbreak moment for a player who had a touchdown in his sights on a kickoff return until someone grabbed his foot and tripped him. You could see the dejection in his posture, and how often does a guy on the Specials team get to score? I looked him up—red shirt Senior, so this is one of his last chances to pull something like that off. My daughter thought they should have put him into the offensive line as a wide-receiver to give him another shot, and I wish they had!

I'm trying to get caught up on Z Nation. Oddly interesting, though I really, really hate the gore. The zombie genre just isn't for me, and how I would love a more oblique treatment of all that stuff. :(

We watched episodes of Back To You two weekends ago, thinking that our son would get a kick out of that show. It's a typical Kelsey Grammar vehicle in which he plays a pompous ass, but we like to think of it as "featuring Fred Willard," which is the best reason to see it. Our son agreed. :D

I'm planning to take Thanksgiving week off, so maybe I can get some of the things done around the house that did not happen this weekend—or any other weekend. *fingers crossed*

Anyone traveling back to see family next week? We'll just be going a few hours away to my SIL's house. We don't drive up to Oregon for Thanksgiving anymore, but we do go at Christmas. That eight-hour (or worse) trip really takes it out of you. :O

We usually bring a few dishes ourselves, which helps. I've been calorie-restricted forever, so we have a low-sugar cranberry sauce (from scratch!) that is delicious, garlic mashed-potatoes (no secret added fat), and a glorious warm green-bean dish with almonds, bacon, and vinaigrette that I don't think my husband can eat anymore thanks to the salt in the bacon. :(

He has a stuffing recipe that is cornbread, shredded insta-biscuit, and Mexican peppers that I really like, but since most people like regular stuffing, we don't bring it. My mother is of the era where the stuffing goes into the _bird_, and it is slimy and soggy and evil and disgusting.

One of the things I really miss is the turkey! Ours is Weber-BBQ-grilled with green apples/onions in the cavity to keep it moist. Oven-roasted just isn't the same. :D

All three of the dishes you bring sound amazing! Green bean casserole is one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving.

I haven't had stuffing in the bird since college probably. I've done a lot of orphan/pot luck meals over the years and always volunteered for stuffing, so I have a sausage stuffing recipe with all the veggies I can cram in that has been evolving over the years.

I don't know what's happening with the Turkey this year, in the past it's been BBQd and smoked. I'm pretty sure oven-roasting is considered too easy by the main cook - heh.

Now I'm getting hungry for lunch.

Actually, I have to admit that someone once brought Stove Top stuffing to a Thanksgiving potluck, and THAT I liked! It was seasoned and the top was crispy. :D

Virtually all of my food dislikes are related to flavor, but the one thing I really struggle with is soggy bread in any form. A lot of people's stuffing tends to go that way. :O

Bread pudding is like an agony of "WHYYYY???" ;)

Honestly, Stove Top isn't bad, in lean years I've used it as a base, though I still prefer to doctor it a little.

Oh yeah, soggy stuffing is the worst.

we always have oven-roasted turkey which i like, but your bbq-grilled turkey sounds sooooo good. i mean, stuffed with apples and onions? YUM.

this year my parents and sister and i are taking a mini-vacation and going to an inn in vermont for thanksgiving. they have what looks like a really nice buffet, and i think it will be fun to go somewhere.

The BBQ turkey always tastes better, to me, regardless of whatever else you might do to it. The smokiness is wonderful!

Ooh, Vermont sounds nice! How much travel time, though? A few hours? A day?

we're going to woodstock (cue acid flashbacks :D ) which is like three hours from me. so not far. we're even driving up thursday morning, because there won't be anyone on the road.
