Entropy has overtaken the house, and I'm off to Wincon early Friday morning. Feels like everything's mid-marathon right now! o_O
The big news is that we have a new kitty! We went to the animal shelter on Sunday to look at older cats, and came home with a pretty black cat who is four and desperately loves being petted and sitting on laps. That's exactly what we were hoping for, after losing our snuggly cat last Easter (the Whale likes being nearby, but will only put up with so much petting and is not a lap cat). Right now, the new kitty is being kept in the kitchen/laundry room while we acclimate her and the Whale to each other. As a result... everyone's afraid to go into the kitchen unless they plan to stay awhile. The cat does not like leaving your lap-- she stutters out protests and growls over it. Why is the love over already? OTOH, this should prove very nice when she's able to be on the sofa.
I stumbled over some more Sherlock Holmes slash (THAT kept me up too late last weekend). Little did I know, the second in the series is not quite finished (epilogue should be coming any time now). The characterization is a little 'off' for me in terms of John. I'm not much of a fan of the "secretly bisexual" trope in slash, and for John, I find I just don't believe it, and the way Sherlock sees him doesn't quite 'fit' for me. The flavor of sexual relationship isn't quite my cup of tea, either... but the story structure, plotting, and dialogue/banter are just marvelous, and I'm still enjoying the series greatly despite the few aforementioned particulars. It all starts with this story, Loosed Reins. Explicit sexual content, so fair warning if that's not your kind of thing.
I wish I could say I'm headed for bed now, but we're still coding toward daylight, so not yet. :(
