Last day for voting in the LJ Idol polls. This thing is making me so nervous-- we're losing the bottom two, and the pack is neck and neck. The poll is here, and your support is always appreciated!

I'll be cycling soon, and I just don't know what to do about the unusable gears. Post-tune-up, they reverted right back to the two most-used ones slipping out, and it's because they're just worn out. But the next threat-level is replacing the gear wheels AND the handlebar shifters (grrr—SO much less stable than the spectrum levers they used to put on frames), and possibly the rear wheel altogether. I.e., a rework involving big expense AND probably having the bike hijacked for awhile. If only my denial would just make this go away... :(

I stumbled upon a funny BBC Sherlock John/Sherlock will-they-or-won't-they fanfic last week, called Re: Inter-Office Gossip. It features a wager between Lestrade and Donovan that soon has half of Scotland Yard in on the action. Great minor characters, and a few surprises, PG-rated and well worth reading. :)

Speaking of which, I finished The Fellowship For Alien Detection last week and started Imaginary Enemy (both YA, both fun). I may be about to bail on Vampires In The Lemon Grove—this third story will decide it. The first did not "end," the second was unsettling but did. So many novelists really struggle with short stories, in getting the pacing correct and having the conclusion feel solid and organic (Ursula K. LeGuin, for instance, is really 'iffy' in this format). Plus, I have more grown-up books in the reading pile AND I keep acquiring new things from whatever I bring home from the library for my son. I used to never 'quit' books, but I've relaxed into doing it once in awhile.

So, it's Monday and I am of course already thinking about Labor Day Weekend! What are your plans for it?

OMG, that Sherlock fanfic. I'm dying. It's perfect.

I finished watching the whole first two seasons a few days ago. Brilliant stuff. January can't get here fast enough. >(

Hahaha! I knew someone else would get a kick out of that! I need to leave a review for it-- I came to it by rec from someone else who didn't necessarily 'ship John/Sherlock, but thought it was hilarious take on the chemistry and other people's assumptions.

We're saving the final episode of S2 for a bit, but I expect we'll cave within a week. WHY only 3 episodes a season? W.H.Y.?!!!?!!11??

I left one, because I just loved it that damn much. :) JohnLock is impossible NOT to ship, if you tend to ship two guys together. It's just... ugh, that chemistry. I don't even need them to have sex; their relationship is perfct as is. ;) I just about died when Mycroft got involved.

Because each episode's 1.5 hours long so production is like that for a movie not for a show. D: But! Each episode is sufficiently brilliant, so I don't mind. I'm just glad I caught on to it after there were six movie-length episodes to watch. ;)

:D Me too. As opposed to, first season and then "AUGHHH! You can't end that episode there!"

I haven't read a Sherlock fic in a while - thanks for the rec! I do hope they figure out how to get back in the studio and bring us S3!!!

Russell is a publishing joke. She wrote a somewhat interesting book out the gate and was instantly lauded as the new voice. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too soon for that shit because she crashed and burned but at least she got the big bucks to do it. *gag* Put it down and run away.

They've filmed or are filming now, so S3 is on the way. No idea how far off, though.

I liked "Swamplandia" quite a bit, though it got very dark for one character near the end (and I'm not sure what purpose that served in the context of the story). This book of short stories... well, at least it's in large print (readable at bedtime without glasses). But other than that, my incentive to continue is waning. ;)

Where did you hear that they are finished filming S3????? It seems to have been so "on hold" for such a long time now.

Ah! Gotcha. I found Swamplandia to be....well, best keep my thoughts to myself since you dug it.

I know filming has begun, but don't know if it's ended or when that might be.

Someone on the previous post thought the show might be back around the end of October, but someone upthread is thinking January. SOOON, that's when I want it. ;)

There was a lot of Swamplandia I liked, though the weirdness is not for everyone. My favorite part, honestly, was the teen brother's going "undercover" to work at the competing amusement park. The description of his perceptions of that place and then some of the actual doings there were just fabulous. Very snarky. :)

Yeah. I found it unreadable. Her prose is just....so outrageously bad, imo. Icicle fang? It made no metaphorical sense.

Well, it was originally supposed to be last Winter, then this Fall...and now...I haven't heard Jan of next year. I'll have to do some googling.

It's the main actors' darn movie careers! They're making it hard to get the two leads together for filming!
