Feels like beyond Friday, like I've dragged halfway into next week...
Today is the last day of voting for the current round of Idol, and any and all votes are appreciated. My pieces are here and here (two this week). The poll numbers on the first one are really making me nervous. :(

So, last day of training, but my brain was fried back on Wednesday. It's been a long week with very little sleep, though the class equipment is behaving better. Just a few more hours... I've been trying to catch up with my f-list today over lunch (now), and periodically checking the hourly weather forecast all day in some sort of stubborn denial mode. Still on target for 100o at 5pm, which means I cannot bike today. But surely, if I keep refreshing the web page, that will change. Right? :O

Did I mention that my daughter got us hooked on the BBC Sherlock Holmes series? We're 1 1/2 episodes in, but really liking it so far. I don't find Benedict at all attractive (apart from That Voice), but he's really well suited to the role. And even my daughter thinks Martin Freeman is adorable (and he does look like a Hobbit, somehow). We're watching Doc Martin with our son (who finds Bert as hilarious as I do), and Sherlock with our daughter. Meanwhile, the stuff on the DVR is piling up... though HalfshellHusband and I finished S1 of Homeland, which was quite a ride. Plus, Mandy Patinkin has once again won me over. Apart from Criminal Minds, where he irritated me, I have some kind of ungodly weakness for that man's soulfulness.

So, weekend. No camping. Probably packing for vacation, though. What about you?

He makes a wonderful Holmes, and if one is going to pontificate, as Sherlock does, it helps to have That Voice.

We're just going up to Oregon to visit family. I'm considering other options for next year, but we're sort of trapped in that my parents (and two sisters) live up there, and my parents are 86 now. I'm wondering if next year, we should go up during the kids' Spring Break, and then try to go someplace else during the summer. Lauren and her schedule (Mock Trial, summer volunteer/internship/etc.) really make it hard to plan anything. This has been a problem for years! But as we discovered, potential Mock Trial state competitions also torpedo the first weekend of Spring Break. So that might be a time to do something less 'glamorous.' Not that our vacations ever are. ;)

I hear from other f-listies that it has been a tad hot and miserable out your way. My daughter thought it was ridiculous for Kate Midland to end a trip early because it was 89-degrees wherever she was, but I explained that in the U.K., that is ungodly hot. Plus, pregnancy just makes you overheat even more...

You're absolutely right that That Voice is made for pontification!! :) When you get to see the Hound of the Baskervilles edition don't think I speak like the 'locals' just because Dartmoor is on my doorstep!! Their accents are nothing like a proper Devonshire one! :)

I suppose by the time the kids get older and their education and work commitments become more important it's hard to find time for you all to get away. Still good to try to do something as a family though so I hope you do manage to get away somewhere. Who needs glamorous holidays anyway?!! :)

It has been uncomfortably hot over here in Blighty...it could be worse for me though because I live on the coast so sea breezes help to keep the temps down a little. I don't blame your daughter for thinking it ridiculous that Kate ended her trip early but you're right that 89F is a lot hotter than we're used to!! And she's very close to giving birth too so that didn't help matters at all, poor girl.
