Any of my peeps going to Wincon this coming year? The registration discount ends tomorrow.

I'm planning on going this time. I hate Las Vegas, but this Wincon doesn't collide with my birthday and the plane flight is short and not too expensive. \o/

My random "must know" obsession of the day, since we're watching My Name Is Earl on DVD: why won't the Internet satisfy my curiosity as to Jason Lee's ancestry? Because look at that nose-- how is he not part Slavic? I'm pretty sure I've had this exact question about some other actor too, also based on his nose. Interwebs, you have failed me. :(

Unfortunately I won't know until I see what my $$ situation is like later this year. I'm in the process of getting divorced and so it's fairly unlikely when it comes to having the money. :(

Awwwww.... I'm so sorry to hear that. I had no idea things were going that way. What a sad situation. *hugs*

We're actually okay. We're just better off friends, and we've tried everything for years to make things work. I think we're both relieved to have come to the same decision and are happy to move on. We're not fighting, so that helps. It's still stressful splitting things up and figuring out what we're doing from here on out, but we're ok. :)

There are two nice things about Vegas that might be worth checking out, if you have time -

If you love great modern architecture, The Crystals, the new mall right on the strip, has beautiful buildings itself and around it - Daniel Leibeskind did the mall building, Norman Foster did the Harmon Hotel, and there's a nice Maya Lin (she did the Vietnam Wall) sculpture in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. More about it here - http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/skyline/2010/10/04/101004crsk_skyline_goldberger

And Vegas has one of the truly great Thai restaurants in the USA - Lotus of Siam is in a nondescript strip mall with its back to the street, but the Thai food is fantastic!

Ooh, those are great suggestions!

I mainly hate the smoking and the blowing dirt/sand there. I've generally been in November or May (for a trade show), and maybe those are windier times of year, but that last problem never leaves.

I love Thai food, though since having red curry I've never even made it back to pad thai. Or green currey, which is good but is not red curry! I guess if you're going to have a certain cuisine about once a year, it's okay to fixate on a single dish, though. :)

I still both love and curse you for getting me hooked on "Terriers." I SO wish that show had been renewed.

I hate the sleaziness of Vegas, and the cigarette smoke, and the guys pushing flyers on every street corner for strip clubs, AND... the blowing sand/dirt. That last thing never seems to go away, maybe because something near the Strip has always been recently demolished? Ook.

But I'm so glad you're going-- I was really hoping you would!

Yay Wincon! I've already got my ticket. So happy you're going again! <3

I bought mine today, so I'm set.

So glad you're going too! I'm guessing Las Vegas is a similarly cheap Southwest Airlines destination from Portland, as it is for Sacramento. :)

I'm glad you mentioned it—I bought my ticket at the discount with 6 minutes to spare, lol. I'm no fan of Vegas, but I had a fabulous time in Dallas, so.

Yay for squeaking in under the wire! The price jumps up quite a bit as of the 1st, so I'm glad you got your ticket in time. :)

The last one of these I went to was Chicago, and Denver before that. I kind of wish I'd gone to New Orleans, but I just wasn't in the mood that year for some reason. Probably that by S6, I was finding the show unwatchable, and wasn't ready to deal with falling so far out of the fandom. :(

Looking forward to seeing you there!

I wish I'd gone to NOLA, as that's the one location out of all the places it's been that I've never visited, and I've always wanted to.

But hey...moving on. Vegas is...meh. But fangirls! ♥
