This week's brand of insanity...
So, I signed up for Yuletide on Friday night. I did it for real one time, and it ate my life, so I've been doing Yuletide Madness offerings for the last couple of years instead. BUT! Something prompted me to give it a try again. I tried to nominate some things a few weeks back, but couldn't get the Iron Man movies in there (someone had already nominated some other Iron Man thing, and the web tool was stubborn). In picking requests, I was surprised that the Sherlock Holmes movies weren't in the listed fandoms, nor White Collar.

I was more careful this time in what I offered to write, namely, I avoided fandoms that inspire writing a full episode rather than a vignette. That's what got me last time—the only matching fandom I got was Reaper, and there are too many wonderful characters NOT to write. But it doesn't matter, because I can virtually guarantee that I'll be writing the obscure book fanfic I offered, or the second less-obscure book. There just can't be that many people willing to write the first one, and I'm pretty sure the person who always requests it will do so again. Probably better start re-reading it!

Christopher wrote a letter to the editor this week (posted online, and responded to by cranks. Yay). Then, in contrast, he chose a banana suit on Saturday for his Halloween costume and spent the rest of the afternoon wearing it while shooting baskets and otherwise amusing random neighbors. :0

Now that my zombie story is finished, I have some breathing room to write more random things. Nobody's reading it though, which is sad after working on it for so long! It's mostly humor and not particularly gory, so maybe it's failing both audiences who love zombies and those who find them icky?

In other news, HalfshellHusband and Christopher would like you to know that the San Francisco Giants won the World Series. A lot.

I want to write Iron Man fic! But I'm torn between writing Tony/Steve (hot pairing, but there's already so much of it) and Tony/Rhodey (hot pairing, but then I'm competing directly with you). Also, I'm not actually sure I can write real fanfiction where I'm not friends with the person who created the characters. Any advice for getting started?

And by "getting started", I mean "in January after I've finished Cliffton book 1 and that big bang I just signed up for." oops.

Hope your Yuletide writey thing goes well.

Please, write the Tony/Rhodey! There's so little good fic for this pairing, so I always welcome more. I still need to reply to your comments, too. :0

I think regular fanfic is much like doing it when you know the author. You write "behind-the-scenes" or alternate POVs of existing canon, or extensions of canon (what's being done to your Devin/West characters), before canon, or vignettes of 'what ifs,' etc. Really, whatever appeals to you. I'd say, write the thing that wants to be written! That's usually what pulls me in, that first "gateway" story of either a deliberate request from someone else (a prompt/setting), or something that just compells me.

Boy, the road up to January is going to be a busy one! Don't make yourself too nuts-- if you celebrate Christmas, you'll want to soak in the experience with Max. Age 1 1/2 onward, they start to understand the context of it all, and it's all cuteness from there forward. :D

LOL, Christopher

He seems like such a great kid

He is! Both of them are, but Lauren is much more mature and sedate, as opposed to Christopher's random loopiness:

Yes, I R a grownup! With thinky thoughts! What—ooh, banana suit, BRB!

Good luck with Yuletide! Christopher's Halloween costume sounds adorable.

He really likes it, which is wonderful (this will be his last year trick-or-treating, since I cut the kids off at high school).

He wants to go scootering in it, which I will limit to a media op (mine) and maybe around the block. But more than that... I think he'd be a traffic hazard! :O

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's how we feel about your soccer cups, too. ;)

I'm not personally a baseball fan, but that final game was exciting. :D

To be really honest, Boyd creeps me out on a lot of levels. I think that's probably why I haven't read the whole thing and commented yet...:(

I can see that. I don't think he'll creep you out in this story, though. The AU begins early in S2, in that one of the crucial (for him) events of S2 goes in a different direction.

Give it a try! I think it's worth it just for the amount of Art and Rachel in it, if nothing else. ;)
