Original Fiction Drabble: "Transfixed"
Title: Transfixed
Original Fiction (Drabble)
Author: HalfshellVenus
Rating: G
Summary: Landen waits on the threshold.
Author's Notes: A team_prose entry for the writerverse prompt of "Standing On The Edge"

Landen waits on the threshold of the doorway and questions the truth of what he sees.

Star-studded darkness stretches out before him, yawning sky where his own side holds the grassy hilltop on which he stands.

No one has ever (surely not, wouldn't he know?) crossed over, or maybe they simply never came back.

The fall might kill him, if that sky is real, if the image is true. Anyone else would have walked away by now, but not Landen.

He might be imagining this, but it is strange and beautiful, and the possibilities pull him more strongly than sense.

intriguing! and kind of outer-spacey. either that or the guy is about to cross over into the land of the dead....

Definitely outer-spacy. (wrote it for the Sci-Fi bonus).

There's another world/universe/dimension on the other side of that door. But can you enter and still survive?

I'd ask why you're still up, too, except that I am. Though it's 3 hours later on your coast! :0

I love the ending. Is it just me, or did you write about Landen or this door before? This reminds me of a story I read in Idol, but I can't remember if it was yours. Either way, I want to know what's behind the door.

Haha-- you talked me into it. I'll probably regret it, but still-- too much inspiration flying around to ignore!

I don't know if anyone wrote a story like this for Idol, and I know I haven't. But that prompt really pushed me in this direction. It seemed full of choices and possible opportunity... but also unknown danger. Who could resist? :D

And the idea of the fall that will kill him, but launch him into some other kind of world.
That's the temptation, right there. It might kill him, but if it doesn't, what's on the other side would be fascinating. I think of this character teetering there, drawn to the probably bad choice because it might, just might, prove to be incredible instead. :0

I love drabbles. Once you get the hang of 100-word stories, they're an irresistible challenge!

Thanks for reading!

Love the idea of the mysterious door in the middle of the field, and the image of this vast space on the other side that could lead to a fatal fall or a grand adventure is really compelling. It's so easy to put oneself in Landen's shoes, and I like how much this spurs the imagination. Really fun!

It's funny how inspiring that prompt was-- it really grabbed me toward this idea, because you can understand why he's still on the edge, not over, not gone. It's too interesting for him to leave!

Thanks for reading and commenting. :D
