The Real LJ Idol: "Thief of Hearts" (Home Game entry)
The Thief Of Hearts
real lj idol | week 29 | Home Game (unofficial) entry

I stole something when you weren't looking
(why didn't you notice it was gone?)
It wasn't easy. All the layers, memories, worries
were tightly woven, a veritable fortress
with you the only prisoner inside.

I stole something you weren't using.
The dusty corners spoke of long neglect,
the worn mechanics of something broken
but not beyond repair. I restored its rhythm,
hoping it would function once again.

I stole something you'd forgotten
(or simply buried too deep for you to find).
Whether you'd hoped to keep it safe
or couldn't remember where you'd hidden it,
I believed in it, even if you did not.

I stole the barriers to your happiness,
the fears that made you timid in the face of life.
I had no schemes or dreams of riches,
just a sliver of the truth to draw me forward:
I stole your heart because you stole mine.

Thank you! I liked it a great deal when I started it, but poetry is rare in Idol, and my doubts crept in as to whether it was competitive. So I went with the other entry instead. Very lucky, as it turned out, since that landed me on a team with no eliminations this week.

Thanks for reading!

Very sweet and lovely - the parentheticals are really nice!

Thank you! After I stare at something like this too long, it gets faster and faster and kind of sing-song in my head, and then I lose all perspective on it even when I really liked it to begin with!

Glad you liked it! You can probably see why I went with the other entry, though. Poetry is risky, and you never know how well it will hold up in the voting.

Thanks for taking the time to read my Home Game entry!

Lol, yes, that was definitely a good decision on your part. (*is watching the appropriation poll as we speak*)

You're welcome. :)
