Over the weekend, I worked on my Idol entry (what else is new?) and Christopher's costume. His toga wound up being the entire bedsheet, because a single layer wasn't thick enough. I sewed up loose pieces and tacked it here and there, mainly so it would not fall apart onstage and also so he could find his way in and out of it on his own. :0
I also did the wings for his head and feet (he's Hermes), and then redid them Monday night after the paint came off the gallon milk-jug panels I'd used. Guess those are better for reinforcing under fabric, etc. (they're rigid, lightweight, and slightly flexible) rather than being actually visible. The play is tonight, so I'll try to post pictures of the costume result this week.
My husband and I had our 23rd anniversary on Sunday, which we'll celebrate this weekend when it's not Pancake Breakfasts and other wall-to-wall chores. Wish we could get out of town, but there's no one to look after both kids. Someday! Meanwhile, I guess a nice restaurant will have to do.
I read The Song of Achilles this weekend, mainly to preview for whether there'd be too much sex for it to be appropriate for Christopher. It was good, really captivating and readable, though the author took certain liberties with Patroclus' age, his early background, and attitude toward being a warrior. Achilles' mother? Scary. Really scary. As were most of the Greek gods, really... Now I've started an Agatha Raisin mystery, and Zombies vs. Unicorns< both just for fun. :D
