LJ Idol voting closes today. Those of us who were moved to new tribes last week are still suffering in the voting, so your help in the polls would be appreciated if you are so inclined: halfshellvenus, karmasoup, impoetry, and nodressrehersal. These are good stories, but it's hard to be new in a tribe as the other members tend not to read you. I can also recommend the entries by muchtooarrogant, beldarzfixon, and rattsu.

I thought I'd get more gardening done over the 3-day weekend (and perhaps start my taxes, and do All The Projects), but instead I made modest inroads on pruning rose trees and ratholed down the first two books in The Hunger Games series. Now I'm waiting for Christopher to go back to school, because one of his teachers has the third book in her classroom. :0

HalfshellHusband and I had an actual date, and saw Red Tails. I wish that movie had been better—defocused storytelling, some sterotyped acting. Not bad, though, and it tells an important part of history. Randomly, Terrence Howard has such pretty eyes that it's hard to look at anything else when he's onscreen.

Via watching an episode of S2 Monk, I now realize I have much stronger feelings about touching icky things than most people. Plunging your hands into a cherry pie and squishing around to find something inside it? Gah—I can practically feel how disgusting that would be, just watching it!! And then you'd have globby, sticky pie-mitts at the end. That is a huge, visceral "yick!" to me. Much like my daughter telling me that she softened a stick of butter with her bare hands. Butter-coated hands! Plus, that stuff does not come off easily. At all. Ewwwww!

Other book news: Christopher volunteers at the library, and made us all aware of a fun picture book for little kids, The Secret Knowledge Of Grownups. Giant, killer broccoli! Atomic cows! And more! :D

ETA: Criminy, I'm a week behind on my f-list? Yikes! *read read read*

Voting thing is done and done, sweetheart! ♥ And rattsu is one of my favorites in Idol, every time! So much love!

Thank you so much! And for getting me sucked into this time-sink encouraging me to try it out!

This week's rattsu entry was particularly good. They're mostly all good, but I saved this one to memories to read again and again. It's really gorgeous.

Dontcha wanna play the home game of Idol? I so enjoyed reading the entries you wrote for it. They were humbling, actually, but I enjoyed reading them!

Don't you EVEN start on the humbling thing. I know I haven't commented often, and I'm so sorry-- it's the same way with Nyx and Lock&key and Maehrys-- but I read so often (as much as I can) and I'm just LOVING the stuff you guys are writing! And voting more than you know! ♥

You are all welcome. It's like this writing community thing that I'm doing-- which, -COUGH-, I still haven't seen you sign up for (that's okay, I understand, you don't love me... I kid, I kid (mostly!))-- it's really designed to help writers develop a portfolio of their work and THAT I totally take away from my experience in Idol. Idol is completely responsible and at fault for me wanting to see other writers do so on a possibly larger scale (with larger works, I mean, not like a larger scale in size of community-- Idol will be much better for that. God, am I being confusing or is it just me? =P)

ANYWAY... YOU are doing an amazing job and for an Idol newbie, you're just hanging in there with the best of them, so! You go girl! I'm so happy you took the challenge and so happy you're a part of it! SO THERE. ♥

As for me playing the home game... I just don't know where I'd find the time right now. Any free time I've got I'm putting towards this new community and I'm so ridiculously, infectiously (I hope) excited about it. Starts on Monday so hopefully I'll be posting some of that new work soon.

:D I took a look at your comm again, and saw that I don't have to write every prompt or all the time, so I think I'm going to join up.

Right now, it seems like I'm either writing my Idol entry or reading all the other entries for voting. I barely have time to offer drabbles and then write them, let alone longer fanfics! Which makes me sad-- it feels unfair to many of the people on my friendslist.

But if nobody's going to vote me off, well, what do I have to lose? Except deadly concrit that will shrivel my soul, but I mean, besides that.

Thanks for the words of encouragement-- every week is a mystery to me, in this game.

Hey, thanks for the rec, it's much appreciated! *smile*

You're welcome!

I thought you made an effort to be different, by telling a fable that felt as authentic as any Greek myth, but "different" is sometimes under-rewarded.

karmasoup's entry was really daring and also really good, but it didn't do as well in the voting as I would have expected relative to its quality. Fortunately, she made it through the round anyway!

I have to read that. I'll tell Christopher to look for it, when he goes in to volunteer today. :D
