Piecing together the mystery of Michael Scofield was as familiar as coming home.

Michael was cleverer than most, his planning more complex. His was a vintage Mahone had longed to sip—the talented amateur, as born to deception as breathing, with an intelligence that rivaled Mahone's own.

Mahone liked to think he'd have been given Michael's case anyway, based on history and merit. But he knew better. He was a puppet now, enslaved by his secrets and addictions, while Michael remained the adversary of a lifetime.

Drugged-out and disgraced, Mahone would strive to the utmost to be worthy of him.

the talented amateur, as born to deception as breathing This is such a beautiful and spot-on way to describe Michael.
This drabble is such a clear, concise depiction of Mahone's attitude towards Michael. Brilliant. Thank you once again. <3

I'm so glad you liked it!

The whole Mahone-Michael thing always fascinated me, and I was SO sorry the show made Mahone a semi-villain later in S2. How much more interesting to have a good man pursue another good man who happens to have done bad things (for all the right reasons)?

And while Michael was clever... Mahone was up to the task, which made things even more interesting! They were very well-matched. :)

I get the impression that Mahone looks upon Michael as his salvation, his way back. Maybe that's why he went after him with such determination?

Loved it!

Mahone used to be the best of the best, as far as we know, before the dead guy under the birdbath and the drug addiction and the rest of it. Whether or not the Bureau would ever consider him redeemed, I'm sure he always needed to be redeemed to himself. Poor guy. :(

Michael will probably be one of the most fascinating cases ever for Mahone, and he can definitely handle it!

That says it all when it comes to the Mahone-Michael obsession, doesn't it. Try as he might he'd never
quite quench that thirst.

Try as he might he'd never quite quench that thirst.

Unless he found Michael, by decoding all of the warped and scattered clues at hand. Michael was such an interesting challenge for Mahone, and with the threat of "Find him or else!" that need to resolve those pixelated bits of data into a complete-enough picture would be overwhelming.
