You have to do them all in a row, don't you, like bingo? My faves from your card are scattered: Soulmates, neck kisses, reading aloud, cuddling while sick. Or are you aiming for a blackout?
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Heart - greenhalfshellvenus on June 18th, 2010 10:19 pm (UTC)
You can write randomly, but the GOAL is to get a row.

And I can't aim for a blackout with this card-- they're randomly generated (darn!!!), and all the baby/kid/wedding-type prompts usually cross the line from schmoop into "ick" for me.

I love babies and kids (especially mine!), but I don't want to write about them, you know? Except for WeeChesters and Michael&Lincoln kidFic.
devon99 on June 18th, 2010 10:31 pm (UTC)
I know what you mean about the icky prompts. When I think of you I immediately think SPN and look for the prompts I know could be Sam & Dean or Sam/Dean, hence the ones I picked - (reading aloud I so can see Dean reading to ickle Sammy when he was poorly:) I know you write other fandoms but I dont follow them so maybe some of the other prompts work better for them.

Good Luck though!!

Oh my god! *grabby hands of doom*

Oh man, oh man, I am so behind with everything, and I can't even read my LJ or wash my dishes, but I so want to sign up for this! And for the h/c one, too!

Please please can you start with vertical line #2 (the 'I' in bingo)? :D

Also, what is the comm name? Is it 'schmoop_bingo' exactly?

The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on June 18th, 2010 10:24 pm (UTC)
but I so want to sign up for this! And for the h/c one, too!

You probably already know, since you've done kink_bingo, I think, that the cards are randomly-generated. For the H/C bingo, there is a lot of the bad kind of "Doom" this time around, at least for me-- disabilities (using that one as H/C fodder bothers me in general. It seems very wrong), and bunches of werewolves/vampires/etc. Which is great if you're working in Supernatural or True Blood as your fandom, but perhaps less workable for something like Prison Break or Burn Notice. :0

*ponders* Vertical/horizontal, vertical/horizontal (I like "across" and "down"). Do you mean "cuddling while sick"? :D

It's so great to see you around, business or not. I still have your message saved about Marthapants photos, and I see there's a birthday coming up for you... \o/

Deadbeat Nymphdeadbeat_nymph on June 22nd, 2010 04:07 pm (UTC)
Yes, I know about the random-generating cards, but I didn't really do Kink Bingo... *hangs head* I love the idea of it, but I just couldn't get my writing mo-jo on.

I agree about the 'disabilities' for h/c. I mean, I guess it could be done sensitively and thoughtfully, but for a fic bingo? It seems highly unlikely, and definitely at least a little disturbing.

Across and down work well. Sometimes my brain does not. Hee. And yes, 'cuddling while sick' is exactly what I meant! I would love a card that is all 'cuddling while ---'. Maybe we should make a really specific challenge, a Cuddle Bingo? ;D

It's great to be around, and I hope to be around more. I've been focused almost completely on therapy for a good long while and I've gotten out of just about every loop there is. But I'm feeling good about the future most of the time now. :)

Yes! Marthapants photos: They were taken with my crappy twelve dollar digital camera, so, they're not the best, but one of them shows him from a bit of a distance and you can see the fluffiness of his pants. He is my baby love!

And yes, a birthday there was. It was gentle, but lovely - a brunch, a walk in the lovely sunshine, and then cupcakes in the park. Perfect. :)

Now I want an AU where Dean is John's son and Sam is Mary's son and they met and wanna move in together and they're having dinner for the first time with garage!owner John and whatever!Mary and Sam's all nervous and stuff and Dean adjusts his tie outside of the restaurant. Aw! <3

BTW - did you ever write these 5 prompts or did I miss them?
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: SN Lovershalfshellvenus on June 19th, 2010 12:40 am (UTC)
I haven't finished all of the five prompts from before, though they're still on my list (I'm hiding Spider Solitaire from myself, and hoping that helps).

I wrote 2 of them, and I'm midway through devon99's, but I have yours and dominiondreams left to do.

Yours might come in handy for one of these bingo squares, actually...

I resisted the h/c Bingo...but this I could not resist. *crosses fingers for a good card*
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: heh-hehhalfshellvenus on June 19th, 2010 12:43 am (UTC)
Given that it's "bingo," I guess I now understand why the cards are randomly generated, but that's not my preferred way of doing stuff-- I like to find a table with lots of potential and go with that. The one rivers_bend got, for instance, is full of great stuff!

Several other people's had weddings/kid-stuff galore on them, and I so don't really want to write those. Less "schmoopy" to me personally, and more "cloying." Funny how different one's tastes are!

I almost did the h/c one, but the number of disability-related prompts (see my comments above) and the bizarrely supernatural ones kind of threw me. Werewolves/vampires/etc. work great for SPN... but are they really h/c setups, or just another day at the office? And in other fandoms... I think those might work better as "crack_bingo" for me instead!
realpestilencerealpestilence on June 19th, 2010 01:32 am (UTC)
I can't stand kid!fic, generally. It's just like watching a movie with a kid or a cute animal in it-they divert attention from the real relationship going on.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: weechestershalfshellvenus on June 19th, 2010 01:56 am (UTC)
Exactly. I never thought I'd be a fan of Wee!Fic with characters I like, but I've come to see the appeal of it (partly because of the troubled childhoods the brothers in both SPN and Prison Break had-- it often lends itself to bittersweetness or a hidden twist-- or because of the appeal of seeing "future traits" as seeds within a younger personality).

But fanfic stories where the characters HAVE kids and which are centered on the kids? That tends to be a total "avoid" situation for me. :0
realpestilencerealpestilence on June 19th, 2010 01:30 am (UTC)
You could hit bingo on the first line across by writing a wedding fic where they cuddle during their first dance because one of them is sick from drinking too much wine over anxiety at meeting the other's parents, lmao!
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Laugh SPNhalfshellvenus on June 19th, 2010 01:58 am (UTC)
Hahaha! They have to be discrete stories though (or chapters), and the 500-word minimum means I can't drabble my way through a less-than-promising prompt. ;)

It's probably wrong that some of the prompts other people wound up with tend to trigger a "crackFic!" reaction from me rather than schmoop. :D

realpestilencerealpestilence on June 19th, 2010 03:57 am (UTC)
Scmoop is harder, if you're doing it well. With angst, you can pile it on, the more the better-it makes your payoff of utter hopelessness or unexpected happiness even more satisfying. But with schmoop, you have to have a light hand, or it ~does turn into crackfic, lol.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Half Evilhalfshellvenus on June 23rd, 2010 05:44 pm (UTC)
You know, I have to admit that one of my favorite ways to write crack is ALSO to pile on the angst and mock it ten ways from Sunday.

A story I read ages ago where Sam and Dean are crying all the time (set in S3), and just can't stop (eventually, the perfect steak sets Dean off) was hilarious. :D
Maerhysmaerhys on June 23rd, 2010 03:20 pm (UTC)
I love me some schmoop and I am so EXCITE that people are doing this, so much schmoop to be had!
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: SN Lovershalfshellvenus on June 23rd, 2010 05:42 pm (UTC)
Me too! Though the first attempt is actually going to be Tony/Rhodey, but I plan to crank out some Sam/Dean too!

And I hope it'll be to your liking, because I can at least say that the line between "schmoop" and "too much!" is very fine for me, which means that I rarely get too schmoopy for anyone.

Whoever thought of a schmoop_bingo comm was a genius. \o/
Maerhysmaerhys on June 23rd, 2010 05:46 pm (UTC)
\o/ Honestly, I can take a LOT of schmoop as a reader but as a writer it's hard for me. The schmoopiest thing I've ever written is my J2 AU and I get comments about the ANGST most of the time. I am going for a blackout on my schmoop but I am thinking most of it will be RPF and my S/D stories will be for my kink, h/c or au cards.

Totally genius. I just need a vanilla kink or active cliche bingo and I'd be in heaven.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: heh-hehhalfshellvenus on June 23rd, 2010 06:00 pm (UTC)
I did a "Schmoop vs. Angst" Olympics a few years back, and people's favorite schmoop was a sevenfists story that was at least 50% angst! That mix can be awfully appealing.

Blackout? Wow! When I look at my card, I see "Wedding-- first dance" and the two baby prompts and immediately think, "Nah." Though my first entry (almost done) is one of the baby prompts (Iron Man). And devon99 kicked off a whole story in my head for the "reading aloud to each other" prompt, which I would normally avoid like the plague. :0

I could really use a "vanilla" kink bingo card, but kink enthusiasts usually have very little understanding of that. Though my "Set_X" created for spn_25 is at least 50% in that direction.

And cliche bingo... I've definitely got some of those, though they're previously-existing stories. Amnesia-fic is a classic, but I'll admit-- I never thought I'd write an mpreg story. Though it was crack...
Maerhysmaerhys on June 23rd, 2010 06:06 pm (UTC)
Susan and Belyste have written amazing schmoopy-ish S/D -- I always think of them first (and how they do it wrong, lol).

I have a baby (adoption) and a wedding (first dance) prompts but I am planning to write both of them for Kris/Adam and it's Allison adopting and getting married --- they're just very involved. There are some things I just can't write. -smh-

I love vanilla kinks (and consider them kinks, as I don't like to separate kinks) but resource-sharing, bed-sharing, clothes-sharing, making out in cars, etc. are some of my favorite things to write. A lot of them were included in cliche bingo but the mods are not running another round this year. :(
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: IronManhalfshellvenus on June 23rd, 2010 06:15 pm (UTC)

Exactly-- my baby prompt (I thought I was writing the "baby shower" one, but it's looking more like "baby- decorating the nursery") is not Tony & Rhodey's baby. They're buying a gift for someone else's baby. And the schmoop level will probably be fairly light, but that's how it goes sometimes.

bed-sharing, clothes-sharing.
*drools* The first one is a bulletproof kink for me, and I haven't thought about the second one at all but I'd totally love to read that!

A lot of the prompts on my card would probably work better as J2 and not Sam/Dean, but I so rarely write J2 (or more accurately, I keep promising myself I'll stop) that my brain doesn't go there easily.

I wish I liked Kris/Adam, because so many people on my f-list are writing it! But since you're going for a blackout, I know there will be plenty for me to enjoy. *is greedy*

Exactly! Plus, it gives me more of a plot to work around. -lol-

I plan on writing a TON of pairings (some very new) but mostly my schmoop card will be a mix of Kris/Adam and J2 with some SPN gen or S/D future!fic, I think.

I ♥ Kris/Adam. They've sort of ruined my life. -smh-
