SPN Slash Fiction: "Sworn Resolve" (Sam/Dean, PG-13, Season 5)
Title: Sworn Resolve
Author: HalfshellVenus
Characters: Sam/Dean (Slash, Drabble)
Rating: PG-13
Summary (S5): This will not end the way Lucifer and the angels want.
Author's Notes: A belated birthday gift for blazeorfade, and also for spn_drabble ("Promise").

x-x-x-x-x

This will not end the way Lucifer and the angels want. Dean will do everything he can to prevent it.

Lying in the dark with Sam—skin still shivering from the ghost-touches of Sam's kisses, Sam's name on his tongue—Dean refuses to give in. He hasn't spent a lifetime saving people only to watch evil change its face and don halos and cry "destiny" on the way to destroying humanity down to the last smoking crater.

He will not give them Sam, not as a pawn or a sacrifice.

But more than anything, he will never wield that sword.

This season is killing me! I just want them safe and happy, where the evil is simple and the good doesn't become evil, and it only seems like the weight of the world is on their shoulders. *sigh*

And so I come running! I have to stop myself from begging for a piece that has more than just a hundred words. -grin- I love it when you steep these boys in so much love together. The longer ones give you the room and the latitude to do all the things you do so well!

He will not give them Sam, not as a pawn or a sacrifice.

This is pure ♥. This is Dean's voice. It's not hard, now, but it's determined. Dean knows and it's that resolution that's going to save them both.

I so want to get a handle on those longer pieces again, though at this point I'd welcome 300-1000 words just because S5 has proved so hard to work with (even when fleeing to the safety of the past).

I've got to save up some awake time to finish my longer WIPs, or write longer ficlets!

I'm glad you think so! One of the things I hope the show stays true to is that Dean's love for Sam trumps everything else-- even the future of the world itself, and most especially if that future promises to be nothing more than the wasteland fallout of the angels and their petty arguments.

Thanks for reading!

So good. So much emotion !!
So want they guys to survive this season, intact and together!

*sigh* Me too. And without destroying each other or having Kripke destroy them. I'm so seriously tired of that.

Gorgeous icon, BTW!

Thank you I love smiling Sam and happy Dean hugs !! Now your icon is "HOT", so nice.

Oh no, he will not give them Sam.... I love the resolve in this, rock solid beneath the tenderness, and the way Sam is the anchor of Dean's strength. Beautiful. :)

I hope Dean stays this steady through the end, because that's honestly who he has been all this time.

Choose love, choose Sam, choose to be yourself and not some skin-puppet.

Love that it's Sam and their love that gives Dean strength. Beautiful.

"He hasn't spent a lifetime saving people only to watch evil change its face and don halos and cry "destiny" on the way to destroying humanity down to the last smoking crater." Yup. And he's NOT giving them Sam! Hard hitting drabble, thanks for sharing!

So glad you liked it!

I wanted both Dean's frustration and his love for Sam to come through here clearly. And hope that he holds onto that stubbornness, because right now he needs it.

Just how do those brothers keep dealing with the Powers treating them like pawns in this big Cosmic Smackdown? I know I'd be damn well sick of it. I loved this quiet moment between our boys with everything swirling around them. Beautiful.

I know I'd be damn well sick of it.

No kidding-- Michael and Lucifer can solve their problems on their own time, without involving humanity or two specific members of it. I so wish Kripke hadn't gone here with the plot, and I'm frustrated and bored with it already.

Fanfic is my chance to make it better, and keep Dean from caving in to the Stupid. ;)

*sniffles* Why can't good be good?
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam/Dean kisshalfshellvenus on March 2nd, 2010 08:26 pm (UTC)
Exactly! Why must the angels be no better than the demons, when all is said and done?

And if Kripke is going to introduce the concept of God (which doesn't work for me in the SPN universe), why is God then absent and letting this crap stir up on his watch? :(

Way late on this but yeah. I'm reserving judgment on God. I kinda get him/her being absent but at the same time, get in the game here.

Yes. I've wanted to hear him say exactly this ever since his 'destiny' was revealed.

Yes. I've wanted to hear him say exactly this ever since his 'destiny' was revealed.
Me too-- first, because I hate this plot direction completely (I was bored with it as soon as it was mentioned), and also because he put it very well in a recent episode: Michael and Lucifer need to solve their spat on their own time. They have no business dragging him and Sam into it as their surrogates.

Not to mention that the show gets farther from them feeling like Sam and Dean when that happens, and that abstraction removes the part of the show that I'm interested in. :0

Hve I mentioned lately how awesome you are? This is so amazong. You manage to fit so many emotions in only a few sentences. Its really amazing. Thank you so much for writing this. It totally made my day!

I'm so glad you liked it- no Castiel, but a nice Sam/Dean mood and some of that tension of the angst of S5 choices.

I hope this helped you relive a little birthday happiness today!

Oh, my.
This was so evocative and heart-rending. But it also captured the very essence of Dean: what he's really fighting for, and why he's trying so hard to protect it.
Thank you, as always, for allowing all of us to read your wonderful work.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! I've found S4 and S5 very hard to work with, but if there is anything I want to see in S5 it's both boys resisting becoming pawns in the larger battle of wills.
