Chuck Slash Fiction: "Reverse Surveillance" (Chuck/Casey, PG)
Title: Reverse Surveillance
Author: HalfshellVenus
Characters: Chuck, Casey (Slashy)
Rating: PG
Summary: Chuck knows Casey watches him, but what if it isn't always just part of the job?
Author's Notes: A yuletide "extra" for gwyneth_rhys, who wanted Chuck and Casey. A different flavor than you asked for, but since it's a bonus ficlet I hope you enjoy it just the same!
Also for tentinyfandoms, this is "Blink."

x-x-x-x-x

Sometimes Chuck thought Casey was watching him, in that 'blink and you'll miss it' kind of way—the kind where you were interested but you didn't want the other person to know.

Chuck had a lot of experience with that situation. Unfortunately, most of it was from the other side, and tended to focus on the fact that Chuck was the guy who didn't look away fast enough and usually got caught. Good thing embarrassment wasn't fatal, or he'd never have made it out of grade school.

The truth was, Casey actually did watch Chuck a lot, but that was totally different. Nothing fun would ever come from Casey's surveillance on undercover gigs, or his spy-cam at the Buy More and in Chuck's bedroom (and was that last thing flattering or weird? It didn't matter—Chuck was still stuck on the invasion of privacy issue). There was also the tried-and-true judging of Chuck's every move, every word, every mistake, and there were going to be mistakes when he was just a regular guy with a co-opted brain and not a shred of special training. He wasn't qualified to do what the government wanted, but he was still their best bet—Most Valuable Loser, like they'd ever let him forget it.

There was no doubt that over the last six months, Casey had witnessed at least ninety-percent of the boring and awkward moments of Chuck's life (possibly more, because who knew if John Casey ever slept?)

But the thought that Casey might be looking at him 'just because'—might have found something he actually liked after bellowing over each of Chuck's thoroughly quantified flaws … Chuck couldn't help being interested back.

If he ever found a minute or two of real privacy, he might even practice catching Casey at it before the guy had the chance to look away.

I haven't been in the fandom very long but I've not found very many in-character fics yet, sadly.

This! So much. Because I totally believe that no human being could remain impervious to Chuck's nerdy and adorable charm. It's just not possible. (and Casey can deny it all he wants, but I totally believe that deep, deep down, he has a Casey-version of warm and mooshy feelings for Chuck. lol)

I hope so, too! (btw, I forgot to mention before, I love the last line of this especially!)

Unfortunately, there aren't very many. It's just bad luck, I think. I was about to recommend an author to you, but she seems to have friends-locked everything previously posted to various comms, which doesn't help.

I agree-- and the fact of it being the Casey-version (with its grumpiness and excessively military viewpoint) is one of the things that makes it fun. ;)

If you click the "Chuck" tag on this story, you'll find the other one I wrote awhile back (Casey's POV). I picked Chuck and Iron Man for a ten story challenge, but I wound up going more heavy on the Iron Man stuff for awhile than Chuck (in part because I wanted to write all I could before the second movie came out, which recast the part of Rhodey and ruined my OTP).

Bah, doesn't help indeed. The downside of f-locking things.

So very true! Of course, that's always where the in-character issues come from a lot, I think. It' can be hard to make a grumbly sort of character behave in a softer manner sometimes. But it's also what makes it so damn much fun as a pairing and why it's so great when a good writer lays their hands on it.

Ooh, I shall definitely go back and take a look, thanks for the heads up.

Btw, I love your icon. Crazypissed!Casey fills me with glee. lol

I didn't have room for a ton of icons when I found this one (before someone gifted me with extras), and I write SO many secondary fandoms that I picked the best I could for this pairing.

The combination of pissed-off!Casey and that "succumbing to it" look on Chuck's face, plus their proximity, made this one perfect.

LJ's stinginess with icons, save for when you have a paid account, is so not fun. It's probably one of the few benefits of a paid account that I just could not live without. (well okay, maybe not literally... lol)

Chuck's gradual adjustment to Casey's growly Casey-ness is so adorable. Plus, the lack of any idea what constitutes body space there is always welcome.
