Prison Break and 24-Ness

There was both good and bad in tonight's Prison Break. The Lincoln/Michael backstory did not kill me (although Michael crossing the line with Veronica nearly did, and sheesh-- could that woman be dumber?).

Of the bad-- Sara. God, the whole drug addict thing-- why? So stupid and pointless, and I liked her a lot LESS after that. I'm of mixed minds about her running into Bellick at her Meeting-- it's plausible that he'd direct her to that job, AND that she'd just shoot him down the way she did (which made me cringe). Coincidental, but not deadly. And it lays a foundation for later animosity :D

Semi-bad: Lincoln bumping into Sucre in his getaway burst. Just... why? Why even go to that stupid "Lost-motivated" place? Just quit it. It makes your show look like schlock.

Funny: Sucre robbing the SAME liquor store again (dumbass!) and apologizing for it-- and for needing more money this time. Really, it was kind of sweet and so Sucre.

Best parts: Michael telling Lincoln he's tired of being the older brother to Lincoln, the whole Wall-Morphing and a chance to really look at some of the stuff on there, and finding out that Kellerman's been perkyEvil for a very long time. T-Bag's whole creepy story-- AND his manipulative attempts on that poor woman while he was in jail-- that was fantastic. And, on a shallower note, Linc with a hair profile and the beard stubble, ala "Blade Trinity." God, that's a good look for him.

And on the 24 front:
  • What, has the president's wife started taking her meds midway through this day? Her 180 character shift is giving me whiplash.

  • Bro-Prez... still love you. And your dearly-departed brother. Just... smooth for me, a little. Read me the phonebook in your fine-cut suit. And when you're tired, your brother's ghost can take over the talking, and Jack Bauer after that. Really-- I could enjoy this whole show with my eyes shut just listening to these three actors talk.
  • Aaron, you're a buckethead but I secretly love you anyway.

    *high fives you back*

Though I know I support that almost sex for different reasons. It just really cemented their Lincoln issues and their friendship for me. I may be reading it completely wrong but there is just so much love and respect and freindly devotion there that GUH! They are my new platonic friends OTP. They didn't do it and I think thier reasons for not doing it had very little to do with Lincoln and everything to do with them. At least from Michael's point of view.

I totally understand that. On a superficial level, I've always liked the Michael/Veronica interaction (the only time I ever like Veronica is when she's with Michael) and have been wanting to see something like this since the first ep.

On a more intellectual level, I really like that idea, that it's really about Lincoln and about their history (the three of them) together. Though I tend to think that Michael's reasons for stopping had a lot to do with Lincoln, respect for Lincoln and Linc/Veronica's relationship, as well as his (platonic) history with Veronica.

Either way, I didn't find the near-sex nearly as cringe worthy as many others did. Plus, the Michael/Veronica almost kiss was about 100 times more interesting and believable to me than anything we've seen between Lincoln and Veronica.

Totally agree with you on the chemistry thing. M/V were much more sparkly than anything we've seen between L/V. Though I actually don't think the stopping on Michael's part was totally because of Lincoln. There was a pause there after Michael got the phone call form Linc that I thought they were still going to go through with it. If it had been all about not wanting to hurt Linc, that phone call would have been like a bucket of cold water and it just wasn't. They still wanted to do ... something with each other. I think Michael realized that acting on those feelings would be completely stupid for a number of reasons. There complete lack of awkwardness afterward also suggest that it was deeper that just "You were Lincoln's girlfriend so no." I think he knew it would completely fuck up their freindship as well.

I just realized that if you strung all my comments together form tonight that you could publish a book. I need to shut up now.

I agree that there was something more to them stopping than just Lincoln, especially because Michael ignored the phonecall and didn't look like he really felt guilty about what happened, just that he knew they shouldn't. I don't think it was all about stopping because he doesn't want to screw his brother's ex, and I like the idea that there was something more to the two of them, and their own history together (again, platonic history) that also made them stop. But I do think that Lincoln played a part in their stopping (and I'm filing this all away for possible Michael/Linc/Veronica...)

I need to shut up now.

Bah, you really don't. Unless you have to, you know, sleep or something (which I really, really should be doing right now).

Sleep? I don't know what that means. I'm working on a giant post right now to organize all my thoughts.

Woohoo! Though I'll probably have to go to bed before I read it. Which is another advantage of watching the ep early! I already have thoughts on it and then can write them as I watch a second time ;P

The way I saw it he stopped it was because if he and V would get together, eventually Lincoln would find out and that would make it uncomfortable. Even if Michael doesn't feel guilty about it, chances are that Veronica would (her still interest in Lincoln was all over the place) and I don't think Michael wanted to risk that/go through that. Either way it would fuck up their 3-dynamics.
