Prison Break and 24-Ness

There was both good and bad in tonight's Prison Break. The Lincoln/Michael backstory did not kill me (although Michael crossing the line with Veronica nearly did, and sheesh-- could that woman be dumber?).

Of the bad-- Sara. God, the whole drug addict thing-- why? So stupid and pointless, and I liked her a lot LESS after that. I'm of mixed minds about her running into Bellick at her Meeting-- it's plausible that he'd direct her to that job, AND that she'd just shoot him down the way she did (which made me cringe). Coincidental, but not deadly. And it lays a foundation for later animosity :D

Semi-bad: Lincoln bumping into Sucre in his getaway burst. Just... why? Why even go to that stupid "Lost-motivated" place? Just quit it. It makes your show look like schlock.

Funny: Sucre robbing the SAME liquor store again (dumbass!) and apologizing for it-- and for needing more money this time. Really, it was kind of sweet and so Sucre.

Best parts: Michael telling Lincoln he's tired of being the older brother to Lincoln, the whole Wall-Morphing and a chance to really look at some of the stuff on there, and finding out that Kellerman's been perkyEvil for a very long time. T-Bag's whole creepy story-- AND his manipulative attempts on that poor woman while he was in jail-- that was fantastic. And, on a shallower note, Linc with a hair profile and the beard stubble, ala "Blade Trinity." God, that's a good look for him.

And on the 24 front:
  • What, has the president's wife started taking her meds midway through this day? Her 180 character shift is giving me whiplash.

  • Bro-Prez... still love you. And your dearly-departed brother. Just... smooth for me, a little. Read me the phonebook in your fine-cut suit. And when you're tired, your brother's ghost can take over the talking, and Jack Bauer after that. Really-- I could enjoy this whole show with my eyes shut just listening to these three actors talk.
  • Aaron, you're a buckethead but I secretly love you anyway.
  •

Hmm.. drug addict Sara is interesting to me. I actually really like that story and wasn't all that impressed with the Micheal/Lincoln story. I wanted Michael's crusade to be more out of love and less out of guilt. Something about that didn't sit right. I also wanted to know more about their obvious estrangement in the beggining of this episode. Was it gradual or did Linc do something to really piss Michael off? I mean obviously they still had contact because Michael was the person Linc seemed to call when he needed something, but what was with the attitude and when did it start? I just felt like we're missing a huge peice of the puzzle. I just can't see anyone giving up their entire life for a brother they obviously looked down on out of guilt. Just not gonna happen. But, that's just my take on it.

As far as Sara goes. I liked seeing that side of her. It makes her decisions and choices easier to understand. It makes the estrangement with her father a little clearer. (I'm sure daddy didn't appreciate having a junkie for a daughter with his political asspirations) It makes her statement to Michael about being careful more understandable as well. I really liked the NA meeting where she states that she's just waiting to do the next right thing and how that's going to come into play as her relationship with Michael develops. (Not that I want their relationship to develop, but lets face it they are going to end up paired up on the show. We're all just going to have to deal with it)

And that ramble is really long. Sorry. I'll quit now for a bit.

Well, me too. I'm hoping we'll see better backstory on that. Because that's still a LOT of yourself (and well-being) to put out there, no matter how guilty you feel.

Not that I want their relationship to develop, but lets face it they are going to end up paired up on the show. We're all just going to have to deal with it)
I'm going to stay in my denial place as long as I can, before they totally cheapen the show for me.

Hey, I made it almost the full 4 years with "Smallville." Now, I'm just not watching anymore. Because trailers that are "Lois is a stripper!" and "Lesbian Vampire Lana" just do zip for me (and my tolerance). :0

Plus, Michael was the keeper of Lincoln's spare keys!

But really who else would be the keeper of the keys? Stick up his ass college graduate brother or shady friends who blackmail me into killing people. It's not like Lincoln had cultivated a bunch of meaningful friendship/relationships.

Neighbour? If I was a junkie with a family who hates me, I'd give it to roughly anybody else, so I don't have to call them up when I'm fucked. So to me it does imply some sort of contact.
Ice-T: an actor, also a refreshing beveragefiddleyoumust on April 4th, 2006 06:23 am (UTC)
I wasn't meanig to imply that they didn't have any contact... I just assumed up until this point that they were closer befor all this happened. The disconnect between them just didn't fit in with my idea of how close they were. I guess I just assumed that the relationship was more Michael always trying to save Linc and being constantly dissapointed, but unable to give up on him. From the flashback he seems almost condecending and exasperated to the point of not caring anymore. Like he just keeps coming back out of familial duty and that is all. I don't think you get yourself thrown in jail and ruin your whole life for duty. There needs to be huge amounts of love and devotion and I just didn't see it tonight. It pisses me off a little bit because it changes my ideas on where Michael's head is at. I thought I had a pretty good idea of where he was coming from and this episode has just screwed that all to hell.

Go read miss_mandy's brother meta post. I like her take on them a lot, especially in light of what I was disappointed with in this episode.

they had wild sex and then Lincoln ran off again and Michael is pissy

But yeah, agreed. It came across like the Lincoln not making good of their supposed insurance money was the reason why Michael was angry. And that just seems... petty.

And I thought that the switch from condescending Michael to mission Michael wasn't done believable enough.

Then again, it's hard to say if condescending!Michael was usual Michael (or had been for a while) or if 95% of Michael was mission!Michael like Michael (as he was in this episode, not necessarily the way he is in prison) and condescending!Michael was more him wanting to finally be pissy with Lincoln. Then again, Lincoln's remark about Michael and his high horse sounded a lot like it wasn't the first time Michael acted pissy.

Personally, I thought the Linc side of M/L was much more obvious in this eppie, we had:

    - Lincoln, even if it might be ill fated, getting into debt to Michael
    - Lincoln lying to Michael because he knew Michael wouldn't accept it and he still wanted him to have it
    - The whole story about Lincoln making the cranes for Michael
    - Lincoln calling Michael before the shooting/wanting to get in contact with him

I'll even file Lincoln trying to push Michael away as a sign of him caring.

Yeah I didn't have many issues with Lincoln's actions in this ep. Though I did think he seemed far to resigned to going to the chair for something that he didn't do. If I was being killed for killing someone I didn't kill I'd be fighting mad. But that's another rant all together. It was Michael who just seemed OOC in this ep. I just don't get where he was comming from at all. I take alot of my own relationship with my sister (without the slash) when I look at the brothers on this show. I know that no matter what my sister does (and she can be exasperating at times) I would do just about anything for her because she is just my person. I love her like crazy and I wanted to see some of that from Michael tonight. It just wasn't there. Even when Lincoln was doing completely stupid shit I needed to see that underlying love. Maybe I need to watch it again and see if I can get something else out of it on second veiwing.

Then again, Lincoln's remark about Michael and his high horse sounded a lot like it wasn't the first time Michael acted pissy.

At the same time, though, Michael's "I don't want to be a big brother to my big brother" sounds like this isn't the first time he's had to come rescue Lincoln, either.

Personally, I thought the Linc side of M/L was much more obvious in this eppie

So agreed on this, and there is much anger at Michael on the TWoP boards. But I feel like this was such a one-sided view of Michael and their relationship - all we saw is Michael being angry and then devoted when he finds out what Linc did for him, but we have no idea why he was angry to begin with, and I don't buy that condescending is his natural personality or that he's been resentful of Lincoln for his whole life.

No, that actually makes sense, I hadn't even really thought about it until you mentioned. Although I'm now starting to wonder what Linc wanted to talk to Michael about, as it wasn't until he went upstairs that he found out that his debt was being called in. And those guys must've been waiting around in his apartment for a while, considering he spent the night outside.

That cracked me up so bad. Like Lincoln sleeps on the doorstep while people are sitting in his apartment? LOL. Did they just sleep there? Did the conspiracy people with the spygoggles see him on the door step?

Yes, I realize that Lincoln had no reason to ring the bell in his own believed to be empty apartment, but it cracks me up that that is all it would have taken for him not having to spend the night outside :D
