Oops...
Accidental crosspost from Dreamwidth there.

Yesterday, thinking that I was going to get to the Vancouver SPN Con after all, I went out running and found I had another mile in me! Five miles-- whoo!

Today, after discovering that I CAN'T go after all (thanks, Homeland Security Passport Policies), I got into the leftover birthday cake and my bike ride was dismal and frustrating, and I wound up cutting it a little short. So human, so unhelpful. This won't make fitting into a dress for my niece's wedding any easier!

To spread some "Voom" instead of Doom and Gloom, here's a link to the Supernatural Season 4 Gag Reel, assuming you haven't already seen it. Though I've got to say, if I were in Jensen's shoes, I'd be dousing all of Jared's food and beverages with Beano. :0

And yes, YouTube (and fanfiction.net), I know I need to upgrade my browser! Think I'm going to go "off-book" and try Firefox, because my company doesn't want XP users to go beyond I.E. 6, and I.E. 7 is targeted for "Vista" users only (like I'm ever going to let THAT happen to my PC). Apparently, others have done the end-run around company policy and gone for Firefox and other browsers as well. I figure I.E. 8 might get approved in about 2 fiscal years, so that's a no-go.

Speaking of Dreamwidth above... I have 3 ONE invite codes. Comment below with your email address if you're interested!

Hi! I kind of lurk sometimes and I think that you have wonderful fic! I've seen a lot of people talk about Dreamwidth, so I would be interested in getting and invite code. My email is Kutekitten_8@hotmail.com. It would be fine if you didn't since I know I'm kind of unknown *grin*.

:D Your comments usually crack me up when you do surface, so no worries!

The invite is on its way-- let me know if it doesn't go through (though I'm off to bed, so I won't get to it until tomorrow!)

Try the PM, and I'll save one of the codes for you. I need to get to bed (it's almost 1am here!)

The passport thing with Canada-- gah! How did I let that slip by me? The change went into effect in January, that's probably why. And it still seems ridiculous.

I'd be getting off a plane (from the U.S.!) in Vancouver, and getting back on a plane 4 days later. With a driver's license (holographic and everything now) and I even have a copy of my birth certificate (and expired passport). But nooooooo... Gotta watch out for those middle-aged female terrorists. *eye roll*

I know that here you can get an emergency rush on a passport if your travel plans are already booked. You do have to fork over some extra cash, but they can do it super fast if necessary. (I once got a new passport in one day, and recently my cousin got a passport in one hour, but she's a pushy lawyer.) Any chance of that in CA?

I looked into it, and the cost would have been in the neighborhood of $400-$500 dollars.

For a QUICK renewal, unless you fork over big to an agency that will act as your representative, you have to show up IN PERSON here at one of the approved sites. For the West Coast, that would be San Francisco, LA, Seattle, or Denver. That's it. Even San Francisco would take an entire day, and I can't spend the time on it.

It's ridiculous. :(

OMG I was thinking the same thing. Seriously, with the amount of candy that boy eats (and who knows what else) it's hardly surprising. I keep joking that I'm going to mail some Beano to him for the holidays, along with a gas mask for Jensen.

And I can't help thinking that, yeah, they're guys, but still... couldn't he at least TRY to hold it in? It's just rude and disgusting, and apparently Jensen isn't the only victim. :0

What I don't understand is why was almost the entire gag reel filled with Jared farting? I mean, once or twice and haha, but some of the time it seemed on purpose. My husband wanted to know if it made Jared less hot - lol

Yes- which is just obnoxious!

My husband wanted to know if it made Jared less hot - lol
It actually does, for me. Bad smells definitely diminish hotness, and the behavior is kind of juvenile which has a similar effect for me. ;)

Oh noes! That new requirement has been protested by Canadians on several grounds, but I never thought about how it would affect y'all down there, too. :'(

Any chance you can still sell it? A last ditch effort?

I am so sad for you. Darn that niece - if you hadn't had to change your plans over and over again, you could have gotten your passport by now.

*hugs*

I've got the ticket up on eBay, and someone will go in my place. I'm going to lose a bunch of money on it, though, not to mention the frustration of the whole thing. I'd SO much rather be going than watching a "wedding re-enactment" of an already poor decision. The fact that my brother and nephew will be in tuxedos is a bad sign in my mind-- it shows signs of a Fairy Princess extravaganza that will be even harder to swallow given the circumstances.

My personal experience among our friends and families has been that the more "Fairy Princess" the wedding production is, the greater the chances of an eventual divorce. The first is a sign of immaturity in my mind (spending into a spectacle far beyond your means, typically), which never bodes well for marriage anyway.

Darn that niece - if you hadn't had to change your plans over and over again, you could have gotten your passport by now.
And not blown some $250 dollars in losses over something I really wanted to do and now can't! All I asked was "not that weekend," and look what it got me. :(

If you go with Firefox, be sure to get the plug-in called Download Helper. It's handy for downloading vids quickly and conveniently (to the removable medium of your choice, for safety, of course).
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on August 25th, 2009 08:32 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the tip!

I suspect Firefox will be my choice- enough officemates use it that I'm confortable that it's safe enough.

Yeah, I find it very solid. I'm on a Mac platform, though, so if you use a PC, I can't promise you you'll be as happy with it as I've been.

I'm so sorry to hear you cannot go after all.
I so hoped you could.I'm into rowing(fours) and so far I've actually been quite proud of myself for keeping up with training sessions, etc.
Last Saturday my boss called me in and told me I had to cover for a colleague, who is in charge of the students' library.
All of a sudden I found myself faced with three truckloads of textbooks for this school year (and virtually no one to help me cart them into the building, much less unpack them, bag them, etc.)
I haven't been rowing ever since,which is a shame.

Me too-- I got the chance to be all excited about it for less than 24 hours before it all came crashing down. And if it weren't for that wedding, I'd have handled the arrangements ages ago (including the flight) and discovered that I needed the passport, so THAT would have been taken care of too!

I'm sorry the unexpected work detail cut into your exercise time. Did you at least find that you had much stronger arms to deal with all those books? That's always a nice realization-- that there's benefit from the exercise you do.

I remember the first time I went hiking after months and months of alternating biking and running. I was surprised at how easy the hiking was, and how much my balance had improved! Who knew that stronger legs would make coping with those uneven surfaces so much easier?
