Signups are now officially open for the SPN kamikazeremix challenge. That post also links to details on how the challenge works, and I'll bet there are a couple of generalists among you who could really put it off. Check it out!

We started watching Tin Man last night, which really intrigues me so far. Way to do AU, in spades! Plus, I love the artwork. I'm surprised to see Neil McDonough in it-- I first saw him in "Boomtown," and now he's on "Desperate Housewives," of course. Something about his appearance just screams asshole to me, so we'll see where THAT goes. So far, though, I'm spellbound by the sideways approach to the Wizard of Oz story that this is taking.

Tonight was saw The Hurt Locker, which was fantastic. Kathryn Bigelow has such a broad spectrum of work ("Point Break" and "Near Dark" are both hers), and I was intrigued by what she might do with a war story. This was incredible- gritty, nervewracking, dramatic, frustrating and wounding in all the right ways. It focuses on a small bomb squad group on active duty in Iraq, an assignment that was already dangerous enough before coming under the command of a thrill-junkie with no common sense. Learning who he is, and what it sometimes costs him, proves to be a fascinating story. I'd rank it up there with my two Vietnam War favorites, "84-Charlie Mopic" and "Platoon."

Still hoping to see Moon, though it might have to wait for video.

I like the idea of Kamikaze Remix as a challenge. Sadly, I have very little (posted) SPN fic to offer. I thought about maybe offering my genderswap fic, which could have some possibilities. But, do I really need another thing on my plate? And am I ready for what I might get? I think no. I still have my big bang, which is over 22K but still far from the finish line. And I signed up for Kink Bingo, which I'm not attempting to win but I would still like to write a few things.

I saw Kathryn Bigelow on The Daily Show - or maybe Colbert? - and I found the description of the film intriguing.

I am so very behind on movies. :P

I love the idea of the challenge, but I wish they would let you restrict your "pairing" genres. I.e., I'd be good with Sam/Dean or Gen, but I don't want Dean/Castiel or Sam/Ruby or Sam/OFC/Dean or anything like that.

Everything else about it is as tempting as ever! But I'm already behind on things I owe that take higher priority. *koff*

The film was really good-- one of those situations where even as you feel frustrated with one of the characters (and tense over his dumbass decisions), those are still very much true to the character and others like him. It comes off as very realistic, and gutsy as well.
