And The Days Go By...
Biked along the river path yesterday. The California grape plants have that delicious sweet/peppery smell right now-- I chase that smell all through my mid-Spring rides. It helps make up for:
  • Squirrel mating season :0
  • Wooly caterpillar death season
  • Cottonwood season (Mmmmm-- fuzzy air!) :0

The heat's picking up (94o yesterday), which is never welcome. We'll be seeing this through October!

In other news, I'm trying to return to a sugar-free state. After losing 24 pounds (10 away from my goal weight), the last four weeks were awful in terms of diet. It was like being a Freshman on Spring Break! Gah. Once I start with the sugar, it is never enough. This is the third day of sugar-free thus far, and it is SO much easier than the first day. The stuff is like a drug to me, seriously. :(

HSH's MRI on his knee is tomorrow-- I hope they find something meaningful that they can cure with that. He can't even bicycle right now-- any movement through the knee is excruciating. I really doubt that it's an infection, because he has no fever and the area (while swollen) isn't red or overly warm. Keeping my fingers crossed for something concrete...

Got any great plans for the weekend? I'm hoping to dig into my Sweet Charity story (please finish soon, I have another one to write!) and take a crack at the Big Bang I need to beta.

I completely understand about the sugar thing... It is sooo addicting! Almost as addicting as the Internet ^_^

I am also not a big fan of the coming summer... not really the heat, but the disgusting stickiness of the humidity that comes with it down here in Texas and the beating sun that makes my face feel like it's going to burn seconds after I step out of doors.

Best wishes again with the MRI! Part of me wants there to be nothing wrong, but part of me wants something to be there... so, I'll compromise: I hope they find something that is easily, quickly, and painlessly repairable =). I'm sure you understand what I mean, lol

I fly home for 24 hours (and 3 minutes) to be present for my sister's graduation, and at some point this weekend I hope to be able to finish off my fic for RoK. It's coming along nicely, I just have to actually buckle down and finish it.

Also, I finally remembered the name of the comm that I always wanted to participate in but was never around for... who must I beg and plead to get another pbfic_exchange going this summer? ^_^

Have a good Friday and a lovely weekend!

I think it's worse for me because of the hypoglycemia. The sugar creates a "high," and you spend so much time battling the lows that don't feel very good. It kind of hijacks your body chemistry and runs with it. :0

Humid heat is awful-- I lived in Illinois for 3 years, and the last summer was one of those 90+/90+ years. When my sister first moved to Houston, she was appalled that people shaved their dogs in the summer. I was in Sacramento by then, thinking, "Imagine if they didn't. Those poor dogs!"

There's a guy in our neighborhood who trots out his Newfoundland or whatever it is for the July 4th parade. These dogs are almost the size of Great Danes, and this one in particular has long black fur. Trim it off! That dog must be miserable in our long summers.

For a PB Fic exchange, you can try any one of the three current comm maintainers: wrldpossibility, msgenevieve, or clair_de_lune.

In about a month or so, I'm betting the Michael/Sara fans will be ready to AU/rewrite the world to undo that series finale, so others might be interested too. :)

Once I start with the sugar, it is never enough.

OMG yes. My personal addiction is soda. I drink it like water and since aspartame gives me migraines I can't drink diet. I did really well and had finally cut it out of my diet. Then I backslide and now I'm back to drinking it way too much. Once I was through the first week it was ok, but getting through that first week. Hell.

Good for you for cutting out sugar. I need to do that badly.

Oh, too bad about the migraines! I love aspartame, and I only drink diet soda. Regular soda feels like it's coating my mouth and my teeth. :0

Are some manufacturers using Splenda? How does that interact with your chemistry?

It doesn't really taste "sweet" to me, so it's pretty useless, but for many the hope was that it would circumvent the problems that aspartame-sensitive people have.

I can do Splenda but very few soft drinks use it exclusively. Most mix it half and half with aspartame.

Good luck with the MRI! hope they finally locate the problem and start making it better. Going to my nephew's graduation and to visit an aunt out of state this weekend. I can't believe the kid whose diapers used to gross me out is getting out of high school ;)

    How far is the trip?

And I have a nephew graduating this year too. I still remember when his big sister was 2, and she's already out of college!

I hope the MRI finds something like a fissure/fracture and not something dangerous.

Fixable and obvious would be really nice, because the incredible pain and ever-expanding swelling really is NOT GOOD.

It's awful trying to wean yourself off the sweet stuff. It doesn't help that we're evolved to want sweet food. GV for HSH and his knee

It doesn't help that we're evolved to want sweet food.

I SO envy people who don't really care for it! Asians (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc.) have an entire diet that really doesn't veer off into that direction at all. I'm not sure whether it's that they don't like sweets, or whether the diet trains them away from sweets. Either way, I envy them!

And the hypoglycemia increases the cravings terribly. It's a form of self-medication. :(

I'm hoping for good news on HSH's knee too. Now that some of the bad possibilities are occurring to me, I'm getting nervous. :(
