Out of the mouths of... once-babes?
I have as my current home desktop a larger picture of this "Diner Dean" icon, which Christopher finally noticed last week:

Christopher: I don't think they should let that man in the restaurant. He has a gun.
Me: Well, it's more of a diner than a restaurant.
Christopher: ??
Me (because I'm evil like that): And maybe he's in Texas.
Christopher: !!?? *brainlock*

FIC updates: I'm working on a little SPN Gen fic (bigger than a drabble! Yay!), and I spy some birthdays coming up on my f-list tomorrow, so expect some drabbles soon. My fourth Tony/Rhodey fic is stalled out, but I should be able to reclaim it. Who knows about the Sam/Dean things that are cluttering my hard drive? I've been making recent progress on one of them, but it's headed for length, and you know how that goes with me! Basic PWP may be the answer for now.

Poundage: The recent dieting and giving up sugar has had amazing results. I know they won't last, but they're shocking given my history. I've lost 7-8 pounds in the last 11 days, and I can actually see AND feel the results. Normally, I lose weight at about the rate of 1/2 to 1 pound a week at best, and it takes a long time to see any effect and it's much too slow to feel the difference. This is really nice! I can stand to look at myself in the mirror again. I'm about 3 lbs. away from my October '07 Wincon weight, and 26 away from my goal weight (THAT could take awhile, and probably will).

The Spark People food diary helped me realize that my overall fat intake has been too low for a really long time. A physician's assistant mentioned this years ago, but seeing the "7-10 grams of fat" reappear daily really hit home. In general, I'm not a big fan of fatty things, and fat adds tons of calories to food. I love butter, margarine, chips, pizza, and ice cream, but virtually never eat them (because I can't stop once I start!) But gravies, cream sauces, and oils of any kind? Yick! I pour most of the oil out of my vinaigrette dressings because it's gross, and it coats your mouth. Almonds and occasional peanut butter toast will have to become more of my diet. But that way, I'm choosing which fats to eat.

Pimpage: First, fab_feb_friends is open for joining, to share some holiday love with your friends. And second, I'm sure most of you have heard that Kim Manners died earlier this week from lung cancer. He was a great creative force for Supernatural, the X-Files, and so many other shows over time, and he will be sorely missed. Fans can donate to the American Cancer Society in Kim's name (more information via Caffeinekitty here). If you'd like to send condolences to the Supernatural Cast and Crew (or to Kim's widow, Marlena Manners), the address is:

Woo is right! All of that exercise should have results, you know? It takes up a lot of my time!

and how often do people have to add fat to their diet...
I cut out the part where I rambled about my grandmother dying from gall bladder disease, and whether the fat aversion might be a form of self-medication. Who knows?

i think you totally blew christopher's little-boy mind. heee.
When he was much younger, say 3-5, that used to happen more often and it always cracked me up because you could actually see him enter brainlock from the expression on his face!

You can carry concealed in Texas, even.

That was part of my evil joke, and I'd hoped Texas people wouldn't be offended. I knew he wouldn't get it, though I wasn't expecting anything as good as brainlock!

I'm so used to seeing that Diner Dean picture (S1 promo shot!) that I never really noticed that his gun is right there on the table. :0
i want this to last forever: Stock-Head in Suitcaselinzi20 on January 28th, 2009 08:31 pm (UTC)
My husband and I have similar conversations, although ours tend to surround my Wentworth Miller obsession. I call them our "Lindsay and Jeff RPF moments" :P

And congrats on the weight loss! Cutting sugar out, although very hard, is definately the key!

Hee! Does he generally understand what you're talking about, or does he get caught up on weird surface things that you don't even notice anymore? That gun is totally a blind spot for me now. I mean, I notice it but I don't notice that issue of context with it!

Cutting sugar out, although very hard, is definately the key!
Especially for me-- I'm hypoglycemic, and so I crave sugar on a daily basis (sometimes hourly). But even calories aside, it gets addictive for me very quickly and pretty soon I find myself at the bottom of a bag of chocolate chips. Or worse. :0

This cracked me up, cause even tho' I would never have been able to get away with it with my son (who was born an adult LOL) I used to torture my daughter like this. But, alas, it no longer works when they are 14. At that age they look at you like you are mental.

You know, somehow I can believe that about your son!

Christopher likes "big ideas" as we used to say (we even wrote that on one of his daycare "info" sheets when he was four). But he can still stymie over something he doesn't understand (because the context is missing or whatever), and I can't resist doing it. It used to happen a lot more when he was younger, and at age 9 I haven't seen it for awhile! :D

Fat doesn't have to mean bad - cheeses and avocado are two of my favourite sources :)
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on January 28th, 2009 09:00 pm (UTC)
The skim-mozarella string cheese I have around for snacks apparently has about 6g of fat, so I need to remember to include that more often. Colby and cheddar cheese, which I also like, is... harder not to overdue. ;)

I tend to forget about avocados because I don't like them. I love guacamole, but we all know where that leads. :0

Randomly, I've been eating nothing but chocolate from this two pound bag we bought for my birthday party, and somehow have been mad losing weight. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

It's because I don't like chocolate obviously. If I was eating something I wanted to eat, I would be putting on mass poundage.

It often seems that way, doesn't it? Lucky you, though! :D

That's the best thing about kids. Confusing them.

And go you on the wait loss!! Will there be before and after pics?

It shouldn't be as much fun as it is, but hey, why resist? :D

Will there be before and after pics?
I wasn't planning to, partly because I'm not that photogenic to begin with! I really envy people who are. :D

Yay indeed! Let's hope the progress keeps up.

Today was supposed to be a biking day, but it's arctic and _windy_, and I don't have enough daylight. Send in the running shoes!

Poor Christopher! He doesn't understand that Dean is the person who will protect you from the people who really shouldn't have guns in diners. Or other places ;)

YAY for new long fic! Looking forward to it. Congrats on the weight loss.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on February 4th, 2009 01:41 am (UTC)
Christopher has no idea who Dean is at all, so I can understand why the "gun in the restaurant" issue came up. That's a pretty hard-and-fast "No" when you're Christopher's age!

YAY for new long fic! Looking forward to it.
It's up and it's here, though I'm sensing that not everyone likes it. It's very much a canon "Sam" view of things, and a lot of people chafe at how that makes John look. Again, though... canon. John's viewpoint of himself is of course different, as is Dean's! We all wish Sam had enjoyed his pre-series life more, but if he had then he wouldn't be the Sam we see in the Pilot and then onward.
