I didn't answer the "hand out" candy one because I'm bah-humbug to that part of Halloween.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Halloweenhalfshellvenus on November 6th, 2008 11:40 pm (UTC)
Awww! When you're a kid, that's the best part. With the house decorations/dressed-up-candy-person as the second.

You weren't the only one, though. :D

I still want someone to tell me what the "red" stuff people put on candy apples is. Some sort of cinnamon-flavored glaze? What?
cindytsuki_no_bara on November 6th, 2008 11:04 pm (UTC)
this year's candy was reese's peanutbutter cups and... snickers. :D so guess how i answered that question.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Halloweenhalfshellvenus on November 6th, 2008 11:41 pm (UTC)
I had a hard time with that choice myself, because I love all 3! As a kid, 3 Musketeers were my favorite, but now I like Milky Ways slightly more than Snickers.

I saw a toffee apple with chocolate and nuts. I cried.

Fucking stupid allergies.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Halloweenhalfshellvenus on November 7th, 2008 12:18 am (UTC)
Since you checked it off, what IS the red stuff? Is it cinnamon-flavored? I've never gotten past my love of caramel apples to branch out, since it's not like my waistline can afford them to begin with. Make it count, I say!

I find the chocolate apple wrong, and then all the nuts on it is just bigger insult. Or did you want it, but are allergic to nuts?

As to the candy corn, for supertasters like me the colors actually taste different. I like both the yellow and orange, but the white tastes like pure sugar and I find it icky. Plus, it dilutes the taste of the part I DO like.

I met another supertaster who _only_ likes the white part. Bleh.
Princess Robot Bubblegum!astrothsknot on November 7th, 2008 12:25 am (UTC)
Here the red stuff is some weird dyed syrup. It's certainly not toffee. I bought a few of each for me and Stewart - all in the name of research - and we both agreed.

I'm allergic to both peanuts and chocolate. Life's dandy.

I have no idea what candy corn is. I don't think I want to eat it.

That does not sound good. Yick. But you picked it as the best kind-- did you like it? Or is that the only kind you've had?

The caramel ones are glorious.

I'm allergic to both peanuts and chocolate. Life's dandy.
Ouch. :( Though there are times I wish I were allergic to chocolate, or better yet just didn't like it. I want it to have less power over me! If only I were suggestive enough for hypnosis.

I have no idea what candy corn is. I don't think I want to eat it.
I find it delicious, despite no chocolate being involved. ;)
Princess Robot Bubblegum!astrothsknot on November 7th, 2008 12:34 am (UTC)
The red ones are the ones I grew up with and they taste really sweet and that's the only flavour. It really nice against the tarter, distinctive sweet taste of the apple.

Plus it's easier to come by than caramel. If you've syrup, food colouring and an apple you can make them. Caramel requires some jiggery-pokery.

Caramel requires some jiggery-pokery.
:D I haven't heard that term since reading "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" series.

Here, we have Kraft caramels that you can buy in packages. You melt them down, stab the apple with a popsicle stick (or any stick), and dunk it in. Not terribly hard to make, though some people make the mistake of using red delicious apples (or worse, golden delicious, which taste like mildew to me). It kind of defeats the point if the apple isn't a little bit sour!

Much as I like bitter tastes, sometimes I want a sweetness overload.

Yay! someone else thinks the candy corn colors taste different! LOL! I don't eat caramel any more...I kept pulling out fillings. And then a lecture from the dentist. Maybe if I could limit my enthusiasm for them to just a few pieces, and not most of the bag.

They really do! What's funny is that I went to the cafeteria for lunch with a bunch of guys from the office years ago, and one guy who had candy corn offered me some. He only liked the white parts, and so he never ate the 'mutants' that had no white part. I mentioned that i hated the white part, so that was perfect! One of the other engineers said, "Gee, and to think all this time I thought it all tasted the same" (he was being sarcastic). One of the other guys said (with perfect deduction), "So did I. But she avoids the white, and it's the only part he eats. So they must be different."

I like a man who can work with empirical evidence. ;)

Maybe if I could limit my enthusiasm for them to just a few pieces, and not most of the bag.
Awww. Things like Milky Ways have more 'liquid' caramel. They're not as dangerous as the candy box caramels-- really thick and sticky.

Nowadays, if you lose a filling the can fill the tooth with composite, which looks exactly like the tooth. But it's liquid, and fills tightly and gets baked on, so it's more durable. ;)

The candy corn one is hard... you need one for "I like all three". *g*
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Halloweenhalfshellvenus on November 7th, 2008 05:39 pm (UTC)
That's what "Huh?" is for, or so I thought. Unless you notice that all three parts taste different and you like them all equally.

But for some people, it's a single taste, and for others the three parts taste different. The white is pure sugar to me, and icky. The yellow tastes slightly "buttery" as compared to the orange. I like both the yellow and orange, but I like the yellow better. :)
eponin10 on November 7th, 2008 06:15 pm (UTC)
*laughs* And see, I thought the huh? answer was more of a "what are you talking about; I've never had the stuff" answer. *g*
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on November 7th, 2008 09:33 pm (UTC)
It could also be used for that, though apparently most people made the "equally evil" choice when they'd never had candy corn. *is puzzled*

I wonder how many of them thought it might be candied corn? Which does sound truly awful. :0
eponin10 on November 8th, 2008 01:21 am (UTC)
Ewww... yes. That does sound evil. *shudders*
