And another week begins...
Lauren went off to Outdoor School today. A whole week at the coast with the entire 6th grade. I'm pretty sure she's going to love it, unless a lot of hiking is involved. ;)

Do those of you living in other states have Outdoor School? We had it in Oregon, or at least in Portland, when I was in 6th grade (over 30 years ago). Ours was in the forest, which I prefer over the coast. My husband's Bay Area school went to Yosemite for a week! It'd be hard to beat that.

I mentioned last week that we watched Iron Man again on DVD. Saturday, I watched selected parts again while biking in the garage (windstorm). 3 guesses as to what the re-watched parts were:

1. All the Tony/Rhodey scenes
2. All the Tony/robot/testing/inventing scenes in the 'garage.'
3. Some of the Tony/Pepper scenes (hadn't planned on rewatching those, but the dialogue is so snarky)
3B. Too many of the Tony/Yinsen scenes in the cave. I meant to skip past those (they last at least 20 minutes), but I like Yinsen's character so much, and I love how his quiet humanity and soft persuasion wind up changing Tony forever.

I also watched the DVD extras, which included several omitted or shortened Tony/Rhodey scenes I wish they'd kept in (their friendship and rapport are more detailed, as is how Rhodey winds up in the desert again later). There also are two alternate 'final battle' scenarios, one in which Rhodey winds up saving Tony (but the scene goes by thisFast) and another in which there are operatic levels of extended pre-denouement and dialogue that drag...on...nigh...unto...eternity. ;)

They went instead with the middle ground between the pacing of the other two choices, which is quite understandable once you've seen the others.

On a shallow note, I could watch Robert Downey Jr. wander around in that tank t-shirt pretty much forever. I want even more scenes like that in the sequel! *pounds fist demandingly*

sassy, classy, and a bit smart-assy: Atonementbadboy_fangirl on October 13th, 2008 10:19 pm (UTC)
Where I've lived:
Blue Lake, CA from 0-9
Lebanon, OR from 9-18
Eureka, CA 18-22
Tennessee 22-24
Eureka 24-to present. :D

I really enjoyed the trial and error scenes, too, but more than anything, I remember just loving that Tony actually changed for the better over the course of the story, and I really believed it. Plus I thought his and Pepper's banter was very Josh and Donna from The West Wing. I look forward to the next movie, for sure. Here's hoping the womanizing will not appear so much in the next chapter!
