Who Overloaded My Thursday Nights?
So, I guess we all know what show's on tonight. \o/

In the spirit of that, I direct you to this gorgeous manip/artwork by digitalwave, which is PG-13 and S4-centric and Gen, and is all kinds of distracting: Blaze of Glory Please give the artist some love! And perhaps write a story around that picture. :)

Life On Mars premieres tonight, and I'll be watching (even though it will NOT be mostly about Harvey Keitel). But I'm disappointed to discover that The Eleventh Hour with Rufus Sewell, which I've been awaiting since early summer, is on opposite Supernatural. *cries* I don't have Tivo, and my one reliable DVR will be recording SPN as I watch it (don't judge me!). I don't want to Torrent, though, if I can help it-- I'm worried about sneaky viruses and such. I foresee the use of the dreaded backup VCR, whose tapes are hated by the primary DVR/VCR machine. :(

On a totally unrelated topic... has anyone tried the "extended cycle" birth control pill yet? Assuming I'm not in a risky age category, I'm becoming more interested in that depending on how well it works. Namely, I am sick to death of having 1.5-2 weeks of every 4 spent being absolutely ravenous, especially when I've been trying to lose weight ever since child #2! However, I don't want a really prolonged hormonal cycle where those 1.5-2 weeks might potentially become a solid month. Anyone have personal experience with this medication?

Ah, I'm so spoiled. Husband got snipped right after Little Bit was born, so I am FREE of birth control issues (thank goodness).

Have fun with show. I'm missing it tonight and will have to catch up with the squee tomorrow. :(

We were planning on that, but it fell into the timeline where HSH was getting MRSA infections and going in and out of the hospital, and even got one on the perineum that had to be tunneled out (!). Followed by hospitalization for a bladder infection.

At that point, we were scared to let anyone cut into any part of his skin anywhere in a medical setting. :0

But... that would have just been for additional safety. I discovered during the 16 months of trying to get pregnant the first time that my problems with acne and PMS are much worse when I'm not on the Pill at all. Hence, I'm still looking at better Pill means!

I think Eleventh Hour is on at 10:00 isn't it?

ARGH! Stupid local CBS affiliate that runs Prime Time an hour early. :(

Which is to say... unfortunately, it's on at 9pm in our market. *grumps*

You lucky woman-- no conflict for you!

Sorry. I thought about it after I sent that comment I bet you weren't on the east coast. Yeah it's showing here at 10 I double checked so I can actually watch it. I tape SN for some folks that are working or don't have cable so I don't have the option of watching one and taping the other not to mention I tape SN so I can watch it during hiatus until the dvd's come out.

I usually tape SPN in case I need it for fic details. Though when it's on in reruns I'll generally watch it, because I can't help myself. Except for certain early S3 episodes-- bleh. :(

You can trying using surfthechannel.com?

Ooh, that might be a better alternative. It's a network show, and I'd want to see it in the approximate timeframe of its first airing.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm torn on Life on Mars, I kinda wanna watch it but I feel like I'm being unfaithful if I like the Americanized version.

Of course, I have to choose between GA and SPN and CSI, because Warrick. If I record any more my DVR will break.

I don't watch CSI (too much graphic gore), but in my timezone it's on at 8pm (which is why "The Eleventh Hour" is on at 9pm!)

Fortunately, I've never liked Gray's Anatomy, though this same Thursday night SPN conflict used to keep me from watching/taping "Scrubs," which I actually like!

I can understand that. ;)

It seems as if American television these days is 15% stuff we stole from the U.K./Australia, 10% re-hash of shows we've already done ("Knightrider," "Bionic Woman," "90210") and 15-25% Reality/Fake-News/etc. (depending on the time of year). We have a few good things to call our own, but darned if we don't seem to be short on ideas overall. :0

Please tell me if you find any dl comms for Life on Mars. It kinda looked interesting and I love Harvey Keitel and I just found out Lee Tergesen has a minor role on it. But I ALWAYS close Thursday nights, and I doubt my brother will tape another show in addition to Supernatural.

Awww... What else does he have to do? Can't he program the VCR ahead of time? Shouldn't be THAT hard.

I'll let you know how it goes. Really, aside from the premise being interesting, it's all about Harvey Keitel for me. I still remember when "The Piano," "Bad Lieutenant" and some other movie he did all came out within about a year. Solid gold!

Yeah, we've had the vcr for years and we still can't figure out how to set the timer. And it's hooked up wrong so that it only records exactly what is on screen, rather than being able to record one station while watching another.

Aren't we so pathetically old school? We don't even have a dvd player (mind, the xbox plays them).

The premise did sound interesting, but I'll be honest I wasn't going to watch it until I heard Lee Tergesen was in it (I'm a little...taken with him). And I've loved Harvey Keitel since Reservoir Dogs.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on October 10th, 2008 04:53 pm (UTC)
Reservoir Dogs! That was the third movie.

I've never really gotten over my Harvey Keitel love after that year. ;)

It was pretty good, I thought. Good premiere, a little bit freaky. You know how "offbeat" goes over with me!

Yeah, I had those dilemmas too. Of course, there was also CSI, Grey's Anatomy, and Smallville on last night.... 6 shows, three hours. Eek!

About Torrenting. If you decide that you want to, give me a shout, I can get you an invite to a free private community (and some starter credits. You get credits while you seed that you can use to d/l) that has a great reputation for high quality TV episodes. There are always a ton of seeding users and I have never seen anything untoward about the content. If anyone tried to upload a virus, I'm certain it would be caught and removed immediately.

About birth control: I have a friend (two? maybe a third) who has been very happy with the ring. From what I understand, it makes you go from 1 cycle every 29 days to roughly 1 cycle every 90 days. I haven't heard any complaints about the PMS being any worse or longer, but that doesn't mean it isn't the case. Unfortunately, I don't have any personal experience to relate ;). YMMV.

In other news, I will never (well, for the next few weeks at least) think my life sucks if I still have internet. Typing long LJ replies on my phone is really terrible. Oh, and the whole not-having-internet is even worse.

:D I'm lucky I don't watch any of your extras. I used to watch Smallville, but after S4 even the prettiness of Tom Welling wasn't enough. :(

I did do some research on the "extended cycle pill," and regarding PMS-ish stuff, one of the most desirable uses of it is for women who have PMS-related migraines/PCOS and other hormonally-triggered problems. So it appears that the PMS is only as frequent as the cycle, which would be excellent new! Now, how my body knows that it's 2.5 weeks into the 4 for the current medication is another question, though. Let's hope it adjusts.

I saw that post, and thought: "That sucks beyond belief!" It's hard to give up the Internet once you have it, and phone-texting replies has got to be awful.

Better now?
etherealflaimetherealflaim on October 10th, 2008 07:58 pm (UTC)
well, it's an iPhone, so no texting replies. I still have no Internet until I get back from my trip. Should be next Monday. Then I get to post all of the fic I wrote while I was gone!
