Supernatural Slash Drabble: The Fairy Tale Ending (PG-13) for missyjack
Title: The Fairy Tale Ending
Author: HalfshellVenus
Characters: Sam/Dean (Slash, Drabble)
Rating: PG-13
Summary: The road is not easy, but the outcome is worth it.
Author's Notes: Happy belated birthday to missyjack! Sorry to always be on vacation on your birthday but better late than never, I say.
Also for 100_ghosts, this is "Once Upon A Time."

x-x-x-x-x

Once— it happened only once. That single kiss in the dark (heated, daring) branded Dean's lips with the taste of Sam.

Upon waking, it still seemed unreal. Only Sam's sideways glances and hopeful eyes told Dean otherwise. All Dean's promises to himself weakened with the memory of that touch.

A few months later Sam was at college while Dean's grief burned the hope out of his heart.

Time finally fell away in a Kansas motel room, four years forgotten with a second kiss. This was what Dean had waited for— this. Sam. He realized then, he'd waited his entire life.

So beautiful and so bittersweet! Honestly, if I were to say what I liked best, I'd have to copy/paste the entire drabble))

It does turn out well in the end, but oh the ache of getting there! Which I can never resist, as it happens. ;)

Ahh... so nice. Kissing is always so much more intimate to me than the actual sex, and that really comes across here. Thanks for sharing!

It is to me too, because it usually represents love rather than just hormones. A drunken hand-job is one thing, but actual kissing and knowing what it means-- whoo!

So glad you liked this, thank you!

Really good. Have just read both this and intensity and loved them. How you manage to say so much with so few words amazes me.
I wrote my first ever drabbles last week and I found it such hard going. Your works reads with such fluidity and emotion, that it makes me realise that I have a long way to go.
Lovely stuff.

Oh, I'm glad you liked both of the drabbles. They're very different in approach, even though both are Slash.

It takes awhile to get the hang of drabbles, truly. I look back at my first ones, and while some of the very earliest ones are good there are some that are kind of stiff. They lack the flow and balance that comes with practice, and of course not letting the drabble peter out without finishing the sense of story is a challenge too.

Don't get discouraged-- it'll get better! :)

Also lovely, and so wonderfully angsty, in so few words.

Poor Dean-- you can feel the ache of what he lost when Sam went, and it's almost made worse by him realizing how much of his potential happiness could only ever be found in Sam. At least, in the end, they've found each other all the way through.

Beautiful. I'm always amazed at the amount of emotion you can get into 100 words.

Thank you! Some of them, like these last two, almost write themselves and then it's just wrangling over the word-count and refining the language.

The love story of Sam and Dean has so many ways to be told, and this early period has so much wonderful angst to it.

Ooh, bittersweet. ♥

It definitely is! The ending is happy, but what a painful road it was getting there. For Dean, finding lasting happiness is its own rare victory.

Thank you so much. The whole Stanford-era just breaks me, especially Dean's side of it.

Thank you, Layne! The ending really is a fairytale, and the distance and ache the dragon that must first be slain.

Thank you so much. Guh! it's the essence of Sam and Dean.

It is, isn't it! Both the ache that's always in the background and the completion they bring to each other when no-one else can.

So glad you liked it, and happy belated birthday!

D'aww! What a sweet little ficlet. Can we perhaps encourage your muses to produce more of these lovely little drabbles?
*pets muses in hopes of moving them into action*
Lovely, as always.

The come so randomly-- though I have a set of three on this same prompt that are Gen waiting to post. Just have to wrangle the ending on one of them. And get the n00b tester-due from Costa Rica off my back at work. ;)

Then there's that remix assignment. :0
