"So where are we going, Dean?"

"Keep that blindfold on—you promised."

"It's been over thirty minutes, though. Are you just driving around in circles?"

"No," Dean said tersely. "There's traffic. And stuff."

Sam laughed. "'Stuff.' That mean you're lost?"

"No! We're practically there."

"How about some clues, then?"

"Nothing doing."

"Seriously Dean, one."

"Big."

"Mexico?"

"C'mon Sam—border patrol, inspections. No." Dean slowed the car. "We're here."

'The San Diego Zoo!"

"You've wanted this since you were four."

"Still do."

"Howler monkeys first."

"Penguins."

"Whatever. We've got all day."

Sam beamed. "Thanks, Dean."

"You bet." You deserve it, Sammy.

Sam will never be convinced otherwise, that's for sure. Especially with the response Dean gave. ;)

Aww, cute and humorous drabble. :) I really like how you used the prompt here. And Dean’s such an awesome big brother, giving Sam something he’s wanted for so long. *pets Dean*

Favorite lines:

"It's been over thirty minutes, though. Are you just driving around in circles?"

LOL!

"There's traffic. And stuff."

"There's traffic. And stuff."
I'm like Sam-- I'd be highly suspicious as to what that "Stuff" actually means. ;)

Glad you liked it!

Awwww! Not only is this sweet, charming, and heartwarming, it's a wonderful reminder of Dean's fundamental Deanness. Sammy is at the heart of his whole being, and, despite the veneer of butchness, love is what drives him.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on July 31st, 2008 06:21 pm (UTC)
Exactly-- in his own way, always when it counts but sometimes just randomly, Dean is very good to Sam.

And how nice to give him something Sam's always wanted but their father never had the time for. :)

Possibly covering up some navigational errors along the way, too. ;)

Thanks for reading!

Check out the previous Gen Drabble-- I think it's even better. :0
Ah yes, quite a bunch of us, isn't it?unhobbityhobbit on July 31st, 2008 07:21 pm (UTC)
Sorry I didn't see this sooner! Went to the beach today.

But, as everyone else has said, awwwww, that's adorable! Dean, heading straight for the noisiest animal, of course. And he doesn't even argue with Sam, what a fantastic brother.

The beach! You're so lucky!

Dean, heading straight for the noisiest animal, of course.
THE most obnoxious animal in the whole zoo (although they also have the best acrobatics on the bars). ;)

And he doesn't even argue with Sam, what a fantastic brother.
I guess he realized that it WAS supposed to be Sam's treat, so he might as well let Sam run the show. ;)

So glad you liked it! Happy belated birthday! :D

Aww, you made me grin so much with this. These are my fav kind of drabbles/fics, the sweet kind. Although with their luck, the penguins will be possessed LOL.

Although with their luck, the penguins will be possessed LOL.

Possessed by the powerful combination of "Cuteness" and "Stink," if nothing else. ;)

Glad you liked it! See the next post for an important announcement pertaining to YOU. :D

AWWW! Adorable! I LOVE the zoo.I spent the entire day there last week. Monkey's were the best part. Awesome job.

We're about to go on vacation, and I'm really looking forward to visiting the Portland Zoo (Oregon) next week. I've always liked zoos, and that one is incredibly good.

I personally could watch the penguins for a loooong time, and the howler monkeys (Gibbons) in our local zoo are better because they have an exhibit that encourages those loop-the-loops and other bar-swinging. Those are some talented monkeys!
nativestarnativestar on July 31st, 2008 07:43 pm (UTC)
Aww! Lovely! Just out of curiosity, what age did you imagine them to be when writing this? When I was reading it I could imagine them being around 16 and 12 but really it works at any age.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on July 31st, 2008 07:58 pm (UTC)
I actually meant for them to be about the age they are now-- with Dean giving Sam one of so many things that John wouldn't because something/someplace else was too important. I can see John being too goal-oriented that way, and not realizing that in the larger scheme that attitude means that there's NEVER a time where it's right for the casual fun and thus it never happens.

Oh come on, Sam, howler monkeys RULE!!

Hey Dean - what about hedgies? *^_^*

*love*
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on July 31st, 2008 08:40 pm (UTC)
It's all good-- they can do like I do, where they cover ever square inch of the zoo until they're exhausted. ;)

Hey Dean - what about hedgies? *^_^*

Hee! Sadly, no-one seems to keep hedgies at the part of the zoo where you can watch them. The super-secret traveling-school-exhibit zoo, sure, but the part where everyone goes? Not so much. I consider it a major failure!

Though perhaps the Red Pandas help make up for it. ;)

Aw, That was so cute! I'd see the penguins first! :D
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on August 1st, 2008 02:04 am (UTC)
Me too-- because I can spend awhile at the Penguin House, and I'd hate to run out of time!

But then, my method is to see every possible animal at the zoo so that I don't miss anything. :)
