"Dean…"

"Shhh, I'm listening."

"When grownups do this—in a car no less—it's not cute, it's creepy. It's called stalking."

"Dude, I can't locate the sound when you talk, so shut up. There—finally!"

"Even if the driver doesn't think we're scary, the kids definitely will."

"Where's your sense of adventure, Sam? You're the one who always wanted the normal life."

"Grocery stores are normal too."

"It's not the same. So, you coming or what?"

"Not."

"Which of course means you don't want anything."

"Bring me a Nutty Buddy…"

"Second choice?"

"Creamsicle."

"Got it."

"Dean? Don't forget the napkins…"

That scary ice-cream-wagon music, it creates a Pavlovian effect! Even grownups are not immune!

The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on July 25th, 2008 03:29 pm (UTC)
Yes-- Dean is in pursuit of an ice-cream wagon. That warped music always gives them away. :D

i could totally eat a nutty buddy now, altho i was a big fan of the strawberry shortcake bars too.
I also liked the crunch bars and the 'rainbow' bars even though they were popsicles and I'm usually all about the chocolate. \o/

Very cute! I love Dean being all intent on finding that ice cream truck. He takes dessert very seriously. *pets him*

He takes dessert very seriously.
He certainly does! Escpecially once he's begun fixating on a particular form of it. Nothing else will do... :0

Awww! Good Humor doesn't taste as good to wee!Dean unless he gets to hunt it down first. Very adorable.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on July 25th, 2008 07:35 pm (UTC)
I think it's just the memories, since he's grown up now.

*warped melody plays*
Dean: *buzzuh?* *drools~~~* Sammy, let's go!

Even I still get that reflexive urge to chase the ice-cream man down, though I never do it. The kids, on the other hand...

Oh, Dean. You is too cute, my hon. *pets Dean, gets a load of rock salt in the ass for presumption*

For whatever reason, my favorite bits are: "It's not the same." and "Second choice?"

The man's got this down to a science.

The first part shows that mood is everything (ice cream NOW, for instance, like when you were a kid, is totally different from store ice cream) and the second that Dean's been down this road with Sam before. Possibly every time. ;)

Glad you liked it!

Aw how cute haha!
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on July 25th, 2008 11:05 pm (UTC)
Dean is such a creature of moods, isn't he? It's all impulses, all the time!
ErinRua: screwerinrua on July 26th, 2008 12:24 am (UTC)
Oh, man. This is perfect!

I'm old enough to remember those jangly, jingly ice cream trucks that blared such obnoxious music, and how us kids would listen for it and dash to the house for change, just so we could chase down the ice cream man. I remember those gigancit popsicles that were like forteen flavors in one, but I particularly loved Grape. I was big into grape everything back then, lol.

Well, grape and fudgecicles. Nothing beats a fudgesicle. *G*

Which means the picture of Dean listening out the car window for the ice cream truck is positively priceless! ROTFLMAO! Aww, Dean, you're such an overgrown boy.

And so is Sammy, too. Hee! Loved how he caved at the end. :-p

Yup, this hits the spot just right. And now I'm craving ice cream. *HUGS you squishy-tight*
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on July 26th, 2008 02:15 am (UTC)
Aww, Dean, you're such an overgrown boy.
He totally is!

Once you hear the sound, even if you are SO sure you don't care, your mind is fixated on it.

The ice-cream man comes through our neighborhood, usually speeding down our street blaring the music, and the kids go from 0-60 out the door chasing after it, and then have to run it to ground because it's far away on some side street by then. Once they even had to break out the scooters. ;)

And so is Sammy, too. Hee! Loved how he caved at the end. :-p
Hee! By god, if someone's going to eat an ice cream treat right in front of you, you know you can't stay strong. ;)

So glad you enjoyed this-- it definitely said "summer" to me, and it's nice to have a lighthearted moment for the boys.

Happy, happy birthday! :D

The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on July 26th, 2008 02:17 am (UTC)
I know my kids have done it, and I can't see a food-lover like Dean being immune to that sound at all.

"There's a fudgesicle out there with my name on it, Sammy!"

:D

OH MY GOD. THEY'RE WAITING FOR THE ICE CREAM TRUCK. Bahahahah.

Excellent.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on July 26th, 2008 07:50 am (UTC)
:D It's tell-tale "call" gives it away, every time. All you have to do is wait, and track it down by its sound. Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Dude. There's a truck that sometimes goes by the Medical Center--a place where there really are no kids around on a regular basis--and every time I hear it I think, "I'll never catch it...."

Yay, for ErinRua for inspiring so much goodness on her b'day!

a place where there really are no kids around on a regular basis--and every time I hear it I think, "I'll never catch it...."
AHA! It's playing the music for the grownups, to make you want.

Or it's like the one in our neighborhood, which is still going full speed as it roars past our house (melody blasting) and alerts our kids, who then have to track it down. There are kids on our street, and they would buy! Slow the heck down! Instead, they have to run after it for blocks or break out the scooters and follow the sound until they hit paydirt.

I admit, as soon as I hear the sound I am on high alert myself. Haven't bought anything from one of them for years for me, but some things never change!

So glad you enjoyed it, and the openness of Erin's prompt really worked well for this. :D

Cute.
An ice-cream van has recently started coming down our road, but he doesn't seem to expect any trade, so if you don't get to him within about 30 seconds he's gone. This is actually doing wonders for my kids hearing and reactions! Hmm, is this why Dean is such an awesome hunter? Maybe it's the same ice-cream van.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on July 26th, 2008 10:08 pm (UTC)
but he doesn't seem to expect any trade, so if you don't get to him within about 30 seconds he's gone.

! I don't understand this-- isn't the point to make money? The ones in our area do the same thing, roaring down our street to get to the side streets. Hey, our street has kids!

My kids have to hunt the van down almost every time-- sometimes takes them awhile too. Fortunately, you can track those vans by their sound. ;)

Oh, wonderful. Reminds me of last week when my mom and I went to our local Best Buy. An ice cream truck pulled up right before we walked in and I jokingly wondered if any of the employees would respond. Before we could even get to the door, there were three or four who lined up right behind the kids. Moral: you can never be too old for the ice cream truck.

Moral: you can never be too old for the ice cream truck.

Exactly!

I'm surprised they don't hit places like Best Buy more often-- kids get dragged there by their parents, and then there are all those employees who are glad for just the tiniest bit of relief from their jobs. Not to mention a treat! :D
