Stuff That's NOT Happening...
Which does not include spamming, apparently.

I'm not doing the Brutal Honesty Meme because I'm too thin-skinned for that kind of thing, and I also project that onto other people. ;)

So, for realz in general: If I write you fic for your birthday and you don't even acknowledge my birthday then, yes— that really hurts my feelings. And if you almost never respond to comments I leave on your journal... that hurts too.

From the other direction: Halfshell, you talk too much about RL randomness so plz stop! Also, you owe me comment-replies from the last millenium on your stories. And where's the porn?.

New topic: I went looking today (in a non-stalkerish way) for a user who used to be around the SPN fandom at the beginning. She had the most adorable userpics of herself (including kid pics), and I was hoping for some random happiness from them. But she's disappeared! Username was similar to magic_shell (somebody else has that now), and she was African-American. Anyone? Bueller?

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles-- I wish I'd liked this more. It was okay, but I kept losing focus after the first half-hour each week and so the plot's kind of vague. Perhaps this is why:
HalfshellHusband: Why is this kid Emo?
Me: They cast him because he's pretty. Prettier than the women, even.
HSH: But he's Emo!
Me: I can't help you there...

When that comes up multiple times during the show... it's kind of distracting, you know? Hope TWoP can help me out.

ETA: My distraction is the current Terminator actor Garret Dillahunt (also in "No Country For Old Men"), whose mouth so often forms the shape of an "M." It's bizarre! Half the time I don't even hear what he's saying. :0

It's rude, and it comes off as feeling self-entitled.

Someone whom I admire liek whoa turned OFF comments on her stories for awhile because she was too overwhelmed to respond to them and felt she didn't deserve them if she couldn't answer them. *respects her even more for that*

It took me a little while to get into the Sarah Connor Chronicles, but man, that last ep was pretty fantastic. Plus, Summer Glau is awesome and kicks a ton of ass. And the relationship with Sarah and John is great.

The show really picks up with the last four eps, I think.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on March 5th, 2008 09:49 pm (UTC)
I don't get the Summer Glau love at all-- I don't find her especially pretty, and of course since I didn't like "Firefly" I don't have a history with her.

I DO always love robots trying to learn human ways, and all their missteps along the way. "Was that a bad thing to say?" ;)

You know, I find one of the not-good parts of the show to be Sarah's narratives. I like the actress in her real scenes, but she doesn't do the narrative part convincingly. I do like Derek Reese, and FBI-agent-guy, and what appears to be Alfre Woodard's sister yet again.

I need to edit the post above for my personal distraction, the current Terminator incarnation guy whose mouth looks like an "M". ;)

I am guilty of not responding to comments on my journal. That's because most of the time I have nothing useful to say so it'd just be a bunch of smileys and hearts and things like "Yeah" or "Cool". And sometimes I forget.

But I do try to reply all the fic comments even if it's just ":D"

Thomas Dekker was an unfortunate casting choice for The Sarah Chronicles. I think he's more greasy than pretty, and I don't find he plays a particularly likeable John, which is too bad really. I also watch for Summer. *shrug*
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on March 5th, 2008 10:07 pm (UTC)
I didn't realize who Summer was at first, so I referred to her as someone with bug eyes and a bulging forehead. Which unfortunately is still true! But I do like her performance.

I find Thomas Dekker really, really pretty (it's the eyes). But the Emo part my husband hates so much is built into the role. First, because it seems to appeal to teen girls ("Oh! He has so much angst!"), but also because he's stuck in a situation where his mother overprotects him not just because he's her son but because he's the world's future and evil robots are trying to kill him all the time!

Which can definitely get old. ;) Any teenager would gripe about that...
The Good, The Bad and The Lanathelana on March 5th, 2008 10:05 pm (UTC)
I considered for a second to hand my name in, but then I realized that either I would get no comments or stuff I kinda sorta know already (and would probably be much better in telling myself from "Get a spellchecker!!!!" and "Learn how to shut up!!!" to "Stop with those endless boring meta attempts!!!!" and "You are kinda weird....").

Sarah Connor Chronicles isn't bad, but I'm not deeply in love either. At this point it's timepass nothing more. Though seeing Brian Austin Green again is pretty amusing. You gotta say, for a pretty dreadful teenage soap BH90210 didn't do that bad, Shannon D on Charmed, Luke petty on Jeremiah and Oz, now BAG on SCC....

I have been horrible in the "responding to comments" department. And most of my posts these days feel like they're all "Hi, I'm Branni. I'm bipolar. I write insanely long stories because I am manic. I write insanely bizarre meta because I think I'm some kind of classics scholar. Oh, and my personal OTP is Jensen+boots."

Sadly, I think the world would implode if I actually remembered someone's birthday. I notoriously suck at that, so I apologize if I've done so to you.

I think you eventually get to them, though-- I'm talking about people who just regularly don't respond. It's like a one-sided conversation. :(

Sadly, I think the world would implode if I actually remembered someone's birthday.
But! Commenting on a birthday post with birthday greetings still works for me. :) It's the total absence of acknowledgement that hurts, especially if I've made a major effort for the person when it was their turn. So, all is good. :)

And as for the other stuff, it's your journal-- your place to post what you want! Even if I'm not personally in love with the boots (or even have an opinion on them one way or another!), I support your right to obsess over them. ;)
PamalaX: Alexthinkingpamalax on March 5th, 2008 10:44 pm (UTC)
I did the brutal thing cuz I've had this sense for a long time there were people I knew out there who would do well with me to have that open outlet.

Didn't seem to get much of that though? Maybe later?

I feel bad about the comment thing at times because I think I end up drawing people into major conversation I don't think the bargained for. A little shut up already Pam! I hate failing to comment on stuff too but I know I do as my flist, too big and too many time zones, gets away from me a lot.

You don't mean it but it still happens

because I think I end up drawing people into major conversation I don't think the bargained for.
Sometimes I've put up these post-SPN discussions where people get really thinky, and the comments have gotten away from me (!), but now that my depression's a little better I can keep on top of it more.

But I'm not talking about incidentally not responding to comments. I'm talking about almost never responding to comments. :)

You were brave to do the meme thing, but I don't think you're as thin-skinned as me. Few people probably are!

Halfshell, you talk too much about RL randomness so plz stop!

Heh, I dunno, I'm one of those odd people who actually likes hearing about RL stuff in my flist's journals. I know I don't comment as much as I should, but I try to read those kinds of entries. Hearing about RL things--no matter how random--makes my flist seem, I dunno, more "real"? Not that they're not real before, but just that I feel like I'm being given a peek into their lives beyond just the fandom layer. (Plus, when you talk about all your bicycle rides I get jealous that I have to wait until the snow melts happy that spring's on the way so I can go riding here. *g*)
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphorshalfshellvenus on March 5th, 2008 11:11 pm (UTC)
I like the RL stuff on other people's posts too, but I'm sure not everyone does. Especially if they're mainly waiting for the porn, which does not come as often as I'd like. ;)

Since we don't have snow here (yay!) I bike all year round, though it doesn't go so well around December-January. :0 I'm heading out right now! Though the arrival of bee season does make me a little nervous... :0 <= does not ride like that.

I usually forget that I've commented, so it's always a surprise when I get replies.

Ummm I aknowledged your birthday...I think.

I didn't like SCC. I found it boring and in an action series that's unforgivable. It didn't help that I didn't like any of the main cast and I've always hated Lena Headey. I lasted four weeks and then gave up. That was about as far as I got with Reaper as well.

Having said that, I wouldn't like to see either series cancelled as there isn't enough genre TV as it is. We need more than L&O and CSI clones on the TV

I kind of like Lena Headey in this series, excape when she's doing narration. She really sux at it, for some reason. I can't tell if the rest is me (and my yacky husband) or the show, because I'm not giving it enough attention. I do love Reaper, though-- it's Snarktastic! And Cracktastic!

john was actually my least favorite part of scc, which was kind of unfortunate. he needs a shower and a haircut. plus he was on an episode of house as a clean-cut, buttoned-down teenage faith healer, and that's what i pictured every episode of scc. i think summer glau makes a pretty convincing cyborg, tho.

a friend of mine not only not responds when i comment in her lj, she doesn't comment in mine. also i think she's the only person i ever wrote a story for who never acknowledged if she even read it. she has since told me she doesn't read other people's fic, so i no longer expect her to read mine.

Yup, I've got a few of those. :(

I actually removed a dedication from a story when the designee didn't ever read/acknowledge it. It was too painful to have the reminder, and kind of embarrasssing as well.

Oh, so I definitely agree with HalfShellHusband on the part of John's emo-ness. I've never thought the emo boys were that attractive. Apparently, though, I'm in the minority, as everyone else over in scc_slash is shipping john/derek. I'll take (and write... yum) charley/derek any day of the week. I did write a john/derek/charlie the other day, but that's not the point.

Other than the hot actors and the action and the intriguing storylines (at least to me, who has a habit of reading into storylines that aren't technically all that great), the best part of the scc is the tight little group of slashers we have going for it =) It's also kinda fun to be able to be inventing the characters while they are unfolding onscreen at the beginning of a series, as you can see if the writers take them in the same directions or different ones. They even alluded to Derek's slashy side in the last episode!! *w00ts less than silently*

But I ramble.

I have no problems with your RL randomness either, btw. It makes you seem like a real person, which is always cool.

Yeah, I don't either. I just want them to grow up and stop whining, basically. ;)

One of the ways I now know that I'm officially oldtm is that I tend not to like stories sexing on underage characters. There are some rare exceptions (Clex, way back when), but mostly I can't deal with it! Plus, the uncle thing. I'm okay with the brothercest, but I can't deal with the older/younger relative thing at all. Too many power and betrayal issues for me.

:D I've already got too many fandoms where I actually LIKE who's being slashed. That Die Hard John/Matt stuff is starting to leech off my Sam/Dean time as it is!!!

Funny, you should mention that. I was thinking that I post too much about nothing. Well, nothing that anyone else would care about. I told myself to not post so much but then I was like, "It's my LJ so I can post what I want and how often I want." *sigh*

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
I think the show has definitely picked up since the first couple of episodes where I got distracted halfway through. My favorite characters are Cameron and Derek. Sarah kinda gets on my nerves and John is kinda just there. I really hope he cuts his hair. It's distracting. I don't get the 'EMO IS HOT!' thing. Not at all. He would be cuter if he cut his hair.

Yeah... I personally think people should post about what they want to (it's their journal!), but when it comes to me I always assume that it's kind of annoying to some people who are only here for the fic.

I don't get the 'EMO IS HOT!' thing. Not at all. He would be cuter if he cut his hair.
I love longer hair on men, but the makeup/fingernail polish/ultra-skinny-boy-with-skintight-clothes aspect (NOT that John Connor fits that) is SO unattractive to me. Even when the boys are pretty, I still like them to look like boys. So, the typical Emo thing is a turnoff. But so are punk, buzz-cut, tattoos, etc., at least for me. I'm not very fetishistic, so I basically find people more attractive when they just look like people. :0

Okay, so you may be over the Terminator story but I agree that the whole show is a pretty! boy, two smokin' hot women, and some eyecandy rushing around doing not very much with much urgency.

That said, I enjoy the show muchly. I love how artfully the hair falls into John's deep, soul-searching eyes and how every other word out of him mouth is "MOM!" He's a huge momma's boy, which is hilarious to me and really cute sometimes! I was watching and thinking: was there really just an entire show about John being sad that no one was gonna remember his birthday (when, in fact, no one forgot and he got ice cream and cake hahahaha).

(I can forgive pretty boys a lot of non-acting skills... ever watch Drew Fuller in charmed? Lol. He's a gorgeous, gorgeous man but it sounded like he was reading the bad scrips, no comic timing, no nothing.)

Okay, so, random! but I don't know anyone else who watches this show :)

I'm hoping to get hooked on the SCC again (maybe TWoP can help me decipher the plot). I do like the look of it very much.

I know-- the peak of Emo-ness! And everyone still came through for him, even Derek. ;)

I could never bring myself to watch "Charmed"-- I saw snippets, but it hurt me. :0 I tend to prefer dramas and the offbeat and sometimes comedies, but I can't really take emo-soaps (the bulk of what's on the CW now), and most sitcoms are a total miss for me. There was Frasier, and I did like Drew Carey, and there's always The Simpsons. \o/ There are some I like but rarely watch (usually scheduling conflicts) like Scrubs and My Name Is Earl and Aliens In America. But the bulk of sitcoms drive me nuts. ;)
