"What've you got, Sammy?" Dean's driving his toy truck around the back porch of Mrs. Franklin's house, where they're renting rooms for a few weeks.

"Lello," Sam says, holding out his prize. "Over there." He points, and Dean leans to the side to see what he's talking about.

"I didn't know lemons came from trees."

They've only been here since last night, after leaving the snow of Indiana far behind. California seems magical in comparison.

"Want it," Sam says.

"Sure, you found it," Dean agrees. "Wait—don't eat it!"

"Yucky!"

"Sorry. We'll just look at it, okay?"

"Okay…" Sam pouts.

I mean to be so vulnerable and then have a hunter obsessed father.
Especially now that we've gotten some really bald detail with that Christmas episode. That was SO sad-- like being moved around constantly and living out of motels isn't bad enough, but to be left alone for days on end including Christmas. *wibble*

These little moments that the boys share with each other is one of the few happy ideas I ever have about their childhood. Somehow, children usually find even small moments of joy-- and at least they have each other.
