Movie Madness
First, stories for Round Six of the Prison Break Fic Exchange are being posted up. Drop by and see!

In the previous post I mentioned an actual book with talking cats who also read the newspaper. It turns out that daybright is also familiar with the awfulness of this book! *clings to her* Something that uniquely terrible IS kind of memorable. But who would publish such a thing? Honestly, if someone pitched that idea to you or, god forbid, sent you the manuscript, wouldn't you practically injure yourself leaping over your desk to get away from it as fast as you could?

Movies on DVD:
The Squid And The Whale got lots of positive reviews, but gosh— an unpleasant movie with unpleasant people (you only hate them more over time), and when the title suddenly flashed up on black at the end, I actually said, "You're kidding! You didn't even finish your story arc!"
I didn't expect much from The Simpsons Movie, but if I'd known it was going to be that funny I'd have gone to see it in the theater! Whoo-hoo! SO much to love. But where was the Scottish janitor? Did I miss him?

Heh, I heard that a lot about that movie. One of my coworkers absolutely loves that movie and gave it to me to watch about a year ago because I'd really wanted to see it. And for some reason I just never got around to it, never had the urge to watch it even though I really wanted to see it, and I finally gave it back to him about ten months later (no joke) unwatched, because I just never got around to it. Weird, but there was just something about it, even though I wanted to see it, that didn't seem like it'd be an enjoyable watch.

I peeked at some of the reviews online again, and it was solid raves! And you know, I loved "Little Miss Sunshine" with its dark humor and awkward moments. But this wasn't dark humor to me-- it was anger and ugliness and children knowing far more about sex than they should at their age (a lot of problems with parently 'boundaries,' and god-- don't get me started on last night's "House" in that same regard).

I don't know. I found it impossibly uncomfortable to watch, and that kind of sidelined whatever larger message it was supposed to make.

I loved the movie, but I could have done with less Flanders and more of the characters who were missing, like Groundskeeper Willie (as you said) and Patty and Selma. Still, It was pretty bloody hilarious.

I tend to forget that the Scottish janitor has an actual name, for some reason.

And Patty and Selma weren't anywhere that I could see-- even in the crowd shots. Though I loved getting a glimpse of the Bee Man's house, and the sea captain's house that pulled up anchor and steamed away. ;)

Patty and Selma weren't in it at all, much to my disappointment. Still, damned hilarious movie and one of the DVDs I was happy to fork out full price for. *g*
