Author’s Notes: This was written for joyfulgirl41’s Supernatural Friday the 13th Challenge.

x-x-x-x-x

The morning started with a geyser shooting out of the motel room toilet while Dean was drying off from the shower. He never knew he could run so well on wet feet, although the spectacular carpet burn on his butt said otherwise.

The burnt toast at the diner was unremarkable, as was the battery-acid coffee. They'd run into that plenty of times before. It didn’t mean anything.

And the flat tire in the middle of town was an annoyance, at worst. They weren't on a schedule anyway.

Sam sat on a picnic bench, watching Dean cram the bad tire in the trunk and tighten the lug nuts back up on the spare. He sensed movement behind him, and turned to look.

Seagulls. All over the grass in the park, twitching and staring.

Sam looked up at the sky, searching for the expected signs of an impending storm.

Nothing. It was clear and blue, empty except for the clusters of birds plummeting down to join their cohorts. The ground was white and gray now, mottled with green, and the sea of evil, glassy eyes was disturbing.

"Dean?" The warning in Sam's tone made Dean turn around, and he nearly jumped. Sam was already halfway into the front seat as Dean lowered the jack in record time.

"Right behind you!" he yelled. The screeching tires were earsplitting even inside the car, and they sent up a tidal wave of wings and warning in their wake.

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” he asked, navigating the access road to the highway.

“Find a big open spot and hide in the car for the rest of the day?” Sam kept turning around to look behind them.

“That would be it,” Dean muttered. Freaking Friday the 13th. Why should this year be any different?

funny! I love the seagulls!

We have an insane amount of seagulls in the town where I live. They creep me out on an every day basis!

I also love the butt burn!

Awesome little fic, as always.

"That would be it."

Dang, you were fast. Barely posted this!

This was written in part for another LJ person, vileseagulls where we had a talk about her username. We have both experienced, let us say, those days (in the real world, before an actual storm) where there are suddenly waaay too many seagulls lurking around, and that gets... creepy. Especially when they start eyeing you. :-0

Glad you liked this! I'm going to tag it humorFic now, since the title sounds sort of ominous.

Dean? When the toilet is possessed, it's time to worry.

I switched from LJ to my mail server and then back again. It wasn't there when I left, but it was there when I got back. :)

There are always waaaay too many seagulls here! I have this horrible memory from when I was little of barbecuing at the beach and being dive bombed by gulls.

No, I never know these things! And it is so nice of you to keep me informed.

I really like that particular SN piece, just for the amount of Dean's feeling in it. What's interesting is that when I read through maygra's table of fics for her 1980s Supernatural Songfic Challenge, there was a story by vileseagulls that was almost the flip side of mine.

Oh, god, your penguin from "Madagascar" kills me. I have such a weakness for penguins.

But On Topic: I know you understand the unnerving feeling that way too many seagulls can cause :-D

Heh, that was cute. I especially enjoyed the first line. Dean seemed in character throughout this piece. And is it just me, or were you picking on him a little bit? He's more fun to poke at than Sam anyway, gets a better reaction.

And is it just me, or were you picking on him a little bit?

Not intentionally :-) But between the two of them, I think more of those random bad WTF? moments probably happen to Dean. Maybe it's cosmic payback for being cocky :-D

He's more fun to poke at than Sam anyway, gets a better reaction.

And that's the other part, of course. Although they're both fun to inflict The Pesky on. :)

Hmmm. "spectacular carpet burn on his butt" Give me just a moment to mentally picture this.

*moment passes*

God damn. I like that image. =:)

And I am very leery of large groups of birds. Ever since I read that story, "The Birds" and saw the Hitchcock movie, I don't trust birds. They are weird.

Give me just a moment to mentally picture this.

Heh. Sadly, it would mar the perfection that we are all sure Dean's ass must be. Damn, carpet burns hurt.

I don't trust birds. They are weird.

I've been out on our city's riverside bike path, and at times I'll come around a corner and there will be crows, sitting on the cyclone fence-- 30 or more of them-- completely silent, all looking at me, and that's when I notice that there's no OTHER noise and no-one else remotely in sight. Urk!

I pedal faster when that happens! Darn that Hitchcock!

Ok this freaked me out a bit.
Large groupings of still animals always spell trouble.

Now if only the carpet burn came from more pleasurable activities...

Especially when they're looking at you. All of them. Did you read my comment above about the bike path and the crows? That moment when you realize there it's just you and them and nothing and no-one nearby... it feels like you're suddenly in the middle of a very bad dream. Surreal.

Now if only the carpet burn came from more pleasurable activities...
Oh, yes. :-) Mmmmmmmmm.

Thanks-- glad you liked this one!

Plus, spectacular teamwork between the boys. Sometimes they ARE on the same wavelength. :)
