Prison Break Gen Drabble: Undaunted Spirits
Title: Undaunted Spirits
Author: HalfshellVenus
Characters: Michael and Lincoln (Kid!Fic, Gen)
Rating: G
Summary: For gretazreta, who wanted a pre-series Michael and Lincoln Christmas memory about making do. :)

x-x-x-x-x

"Do you think other people have Christmas trees, Lincoln?"

"I don't know. Not many in this neighborhood. And you know Mom works hard."

"I know."

Michael kneeled on the couch in front of the window, watching snow falling under the streetlights down below. "Maybe we could make a tree," he said quietly.

"Make?"

"Out of paper, or coat-hangers or something. You know."

Lincoln knew Michael, and it meant that Michael really, really wanted a tree. "Okay."

Crayons, construction paper and glue finally yielded something Michael approved of. "Here, on the wall. With the presents underneath."

"Good?"

Michael beamed. "It's perfect."

Whee, that's awesome. I can totally see the journey from Christmas tree to architectural engineering and the taj mahal thinger. Bless him, I bet he was such a cutey. And Lincoln kind of aggravated but doting at the same time.

That's lovely, thank you! Have a happy Christmas (and also to your family!)

I'm so glad you liked this-- the prompt really pointed the way toward it.

Bless him, I bet he was such a cutey.
So earnest and serious-- about practically everything. And yet Lincoln at least accepts him, even if he doesn't always understand him.

Merry Christmas to you and yours-- I think it's already started where you are! We're at the end of the line in my time zone. ;)

At Christmas there's not really anything more gorgeous than some Lincoln and Michael kid!fic! Especially yours! This is a little bitter-sweet but still so cute and I unashamedly went Awwwwww! as I was reading it!

It was just lovely! :)

:D That's the best anyone could hope for, so yay!

Hope you have a wonderful year ahead of you, Marilyn, and I'll be thinking about you this Christmas (which has already started for you). *hugs*

I'm a little late (so what's new?!!) but thank you, Karen. While it didn't feel quite the same as previous Christmas' it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. And a lot of that is down to all the lovely peeps right here in LJ! You've all been so kind and caring and it's really made the difference. Thank you so much for that.

And I wish you a happy and healthy New Year too, sweetheart, and I hope it turns out to be a good one for you.

*hugs back gratefully*

Merry Christas to you (I'll bet you're already into the candy canes right now!) ♥

Incidentally we don't really have those

Merry Christmas and thanks for giving us the continuous gift of stories and awesomess and stories of awesomeness :D

Really? I thought candy canes were pretty wide-spread. They're a wonderful excuse for peppermint-- but they aren't chocolate (or the dreaded marzipan), so perhaps they're not so popular elsewhere.

Hope you're having a wonderful time with your family. :D

I don't really know why, but they just aren't really common. At least not among the people I know. Maybe not having a Santa Clause has something to do with it, so we don't necessarily have the typical red/white color scheme either. Or maybe we just generally lean more towards chocolate (of course I think our cholocate kicks the ass of American chololate; though living in a cold place where it doesn't melt off your Christmas tree probably does its part ;D).

Hope you're having a wonderful time with your family. :D

Yeah, I now really have to run and pack stuff. It's 8.20 and we are leaving around 9 and I haven't packed or brushed my teeth yet :) But I just finished commenting on mooyoo's story (after spending so much time bugging her about it, I really had to) and argh, argh, must run now!

I tend to forget about that-- don't know why. He's been appropriated from Scandinavia, but that isn't Europe in general. So perhaps the color scheme IS related.

But I just finished commenting on mooyoo's story (after spending so much time bugging her about it, I really had to)
Uh-oh. I haven't checked the f-list! Sounds like I'm behind.

I've got to go to bed (the kids will be up early, of course), and then we're driving up to Oregon the next day. Christmas is just exhausting.
The Good, The Bad and The Lanathelana on December 25th, 2007 07:33 am (UTC)
Well, the Germans have Weihnachtmann. I'm not sure if he is independant or a copy of Santa Claus. We got St. Nikolaus on Dec 6th who looks pretty similar but our main thing is Christkind. We are kinda odd ;p

There's Linc making dreams come true. :)
Even when the dreams are slightly strange, they clearly matter to Michael-- and that's reason enough.

Merry Christmas, tyrical!

That's sweet. Linc is such a great big brother.

Thanks for your interest. I've pretty much left the PB fandom, for the most part. I'm not watching any more.

Is it because of the Sara thing, or just the show in general? I had to really make myself watch in Season 2, and was prepared to drop it entirely by Season 3 when it suddenly became interesting again. Silly at times, but definitely more interesting. Season 2 was just awful, especially compared with S1.

Well, I hope you're enjoying life regardless! Lots of great things to be interested in. My favorite new show of the season is Reaper, followed by Pushing Daisies. Not inspired to write fanfic for them, but oh how I love watching them! :)
Tiger Lilytigerlily0 on December 25th, 2007 07:12 am (UTC)
I don't like the Sona stuff. I don't like watching people getting treated inhumanely and brutalized and terrorized, etc.

My favorite show this season has been Journeyman. I wrote a couple of fics for it (at my journal), if you're interested. :-)
DHD: Avast!neverendingview on February 12th, 2008 04:25 am (UTC)
Journeyman! Ahhh that show is excellent. Pity it looks like its been cancelled (off to join Black Donnellys on the list of failed fantastic shows...)

How much do I love, that even though Michael is the younger brother and he elists Lincoln's help here, he automatically assumes the role of Project Manager?

Christmas Day is almost over here, and this put a big smile on my face at the end of a tiring few days. Thank you!

:D Something about perfectionism and control-freak also tends to lead to "bossy," I think. ;) Plus, Michael is very firm about his ideas and their execution! :0

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, Jen, and I'm glad this lifted your holiday spirits! Ours has been good, and now I'm mentally gearing up for the 8-hour (I hope only that) drive to Oregon tomorrow. :D

Awww...*sad michael face* As a person who had some tree-less Christmases as a kid, I can feel his tiny little angst.

For 100 words or so, I can feel the oven and smell the from-the-tube cookies. Lovely as always.

It's fortunate that he can find a way to make his own happiness in these circumstances (always so hard when you're a kid and money's tight). Sometimes it's the spirit of the event more than the actuality that really matters.

Lovely as always.
:D Thank you! I don't really do drabbles for Prison Break, even though I must have more than a hundred of these for Supernatural by now. Isn't that odd? Most of my Prison Break stories are shorter than Supernatural, but not the magic 100-word length!

Gotta love Mikey's mind! So clever at a young age, and I love how
Linc is always aware of his intelligence. He knows him oh so well.

Since Lincoln can never be Michael, accepting exactly who Michael is makes all the difference. I think we still see that, when they're both adults, and it's wonderful. :)
