Psycho Penguin

The weekends are always too short...

Saturday we watched Lauren's rec Bball team lose another game (close at half, disaster afterward) and stewed about the coach. He's very passive during games, and preferred to abandon his girls in favor of checking his text messages. Grrr.

Then we drove up to the snow and let the kids play. Beautiful weather- about 60o. The snow was a little slushy, but good for saucering. Lauren built a snowman off beneath a tree where other people would be less likely to smash it later.

We watched Cal win their first "March Madness" game, and then the grownups watched Blow Dry (very much like "Strictly Ballroom" done with competitive hairstyling (!). The cast was far better than necessary).

Sunday I did some planting/weeding, and then we had a picnic for Christopher's Bball team. The grownups played the kids in a game of basketball, which was fun (and tiring). I haven't played basketball in 33 years (the Dads had all played more recently). Lauren played on our team, and did very well. The "Geezer" team won, because even though the kids were faster (and much better dribblers), the grownups were a lot taller and more able to pass over the kids' heads and get rebounds.

Afterward, I went for my 4-mile run and actually finished, despite the blisters I'd earned during basketball. Still kind of sore today, though- lots of torquing and stopping/starting, and you feel it in the calves and hip flexors.

Christopher's class shot off their soda-bottle rockets yesterday. It was a fancy staging experiment, where the rockets were supposed to eject parachutes at the end and float to the ground. Christopher's went up, looped-the loop a few times, and exploded! He thought that was awesome. None of the grownups have any idea how that even happened. :0

Oh, and Chuck is kind of breaking my heart, and on 24 Chloe proved once again that she will always have Jack's back, mostly because other people are heartless idiots. Her social skills are still as horrifying as ever. Meanwhile, I wanted the Martha Plimpton-like IT person (and her soap-opera subplot) to die weeks ago, but she's still around... :(
