Answers to the "Ask Me A Question" Meme
More later if I get more questions in yesterday's poll...

Is this thing on? I can't tell you how much of life that sentiment covers for me!

Would you ever consider a cinnamon flavored ferret? Would I ever! *slurp* *is disturbing* However, my husband has an odd aversion to "ferret fanciers" (he puts them in the same category as people who dress up their dogs or carry them around in purses, and I don't what that's all about— one PBS special and he's formed this weird bias), so unless they were used for food (!) that would not fly in my house.

What is, hands down, the best cake you ever made? It is definitely not the filbert (hazelnut) cake I made at age 11. That one didn't rise, and so I made two extra layers. Delicious, but incredibly heavy. Urg. The real answer is a tossup between that gory Dinosaur cake, and the Neverland cake (all cakes shown in this post)! Still some of my best work. :D

If you could change one thing about your life right now, what would it be?
I haven't gone into it at all in my journal here, but my husband suffers from depression which has become severe in the last year-and-a-half, and he's now on disability for it (and trying a fairly extreme treatment), and is going to have to get a different job in the coming year regardless of the outcome— if he can. So if I could change one thing, it would be for him to be free of the depression. :(

I'm curious. How did you come up with your screenname? I have curly hair much the same color as the Botticelli Venus in my default icon (used to be even longer in college). Other people have made the association, and my husband's references to "Venus on the Halfshell" pretty much led to the username!

What is your all-time OTP? Ooh, tough one! At this point, I think Sam and Dean have beat out Lincoln and Michael (Prison Break), and even Kirk and Spock—and that's saying something! Sometimes I think Jensen/Jared is my true OTP, but I'm pretty sure Jared's going to break Jensen's heart in the long run, so I try not to over-invest. *sigh*

What's your favorite form of starch? I had to look up "starchy foods" to see what they entail, and as I suspected I don't really like or eat starch that much! And since I have hypoglycemia, they really aren't that good for me, so maybe that's just as well. So if that doesn't mean cookies (yeah, screw nutrition—cookies!!! And wait, I forgot about cake— *droolz~~~*), then I'd say my weakness is pumpkin muffins and pumpkin bread, along with banana bread. I hate pumpkin pie, but pumpkin bread? I am its bitch. ;)

The treatment is definitely showing improvement, which is huge. The job thing is nerve-wracking, because he won't be going back to the old job and the cut in pay (if he can get a new job) will be enormous and have long-lasting effects. When this all started back in September, we thought this would be short-term-- get treated, get better, go back to how things were. What an adjustment it's been giving up all hope of that. *sigh*

I do love banana bread! Lauren made some over Thanksgiving, a low-fat recipe with oatmeal and unexpectedly with wheat flour (my husband started this project, and did not do inventory! We went to the store for oatmeal, and got back to find that the white flour supply was low also)-- never tried that recipe before, but it was really good. Although crumbly. But pumpking bread... *glah~~~~* (Homer Simpson drool noise)

Our pumpkin bread here tends to be made with the canned pumpkin (as opposed to mashing your own). We had a low-fat mix for the last batch (so, so good!), but I'll see if I can scare up a recipe to email you. Maybe the banana bread one too, if I remember. (Christmas season and other problems-- my head is like a sieve)
