Happy Birthday tyrical and jewels667!
I know I'm a day early for you, Julia, but I keep reading these posts that give me the impression you're running off for the weekend. So-- want to get my greetings in there while I still can! \o/

And tyrical, I hope you find some happier answers in this next year, because I know it's been a stressful year. I think you're on the right track, and you know we're behind you. Here's to some well-earned rewards!

If either of you ladies has a drabble request, please drop me a line in the comments. Hugs to you both! ♥

Thanks halfshell! You know I'd really like a Linc/Sofia drabble. That would be a perfect birthday present for it is my birthday and I am totally Julia.

Except yours would be something all thinky and offbeat, like "If Bellick and Mahone had a conversation about morality, where would that go? And what if Lechero was involved?"

Re: jewels667
Yeah, a while ago I was gonna post this huge rant on how think that it's such a pity that fandom seems to be so unwilling to embrace new characters in fanfic (like the new people on season 3 or the new people on this season of House).

I mean, I got not being serious about them/being a devoted fan, but usually new characters always make me think that they would be totally interesting to explore in a pure gen kind of way. Where they are coming from or just what they think about our characters.

I've actually been enjoying Bellick this season. Or rather, I still have issues with him as a storyline, but he's been responsible for a whole bunch of really good moments. They have really given Wade Williams the chance to bring the angst, from watching his "friend" the runner get killed in the premiere, to him pleading with Sucre, to his dejection in the two most recent episodes.

Probably because with an established show, you've got a really good feeling for who the more main characters are, and the new people might by comparison feel more like caricatures if you thought about writing them. And there's probably the hope or expectation that they'll go away-- I mean, if Michael breaks out then Sammy/Sucre 2.0/deadMalcom fall by the wayside anyway.

Heaven knows, I'm still reeling from the loss of OldFakeDoctorGuy on House. *sniff* But the only other "real" proto-ducklings are #13 and Cole-- the rest are tending to be very 1-dimensional so far (including "cutthroat bitch"). ;)

Re: jewels667
But people seem to be a lot more welcoming of such minor characters in season 1. You know, people like Louis and Becky and Pope in season 1. Even though it was obvious that they probably wouldn't be around once Michael break out. :) Heck even tattoo chick who made Michael's tattoo showed up in a couple of episodes.

Not to mention that again, for me particularly newbie characters strike me as interesting POV characters, so it's less that I want to read stories about them, but in some cases I think it could be interesting to read their take on the events. :)

Well, but it DID take him all year.

And Becky was a "meh" for me, Louis an okay, but Pope? *cries* I still mourn the loss of his character.

:D Can't speak for other writers, but I like to stick close to canon most of the time, and I need to "feel" a character before I want to write them. Look at what happened with C-Note! I got "Jossed" on him after "My Brother's Keeper" because they decided he should stick around longer, and instead of being all cool and dangerous he became this big baby. :(

Which I wouldn't object to so much if I hadn't written a story about him that's now totally OOC. Double- :(

Re: jewels667
Wasn't that the sly as a fox one? That always felt in character to me, at least regarding season 1. Just because he is all sappy about his family doesn't mean that he can't still regard Michael as his intellectual enemy. :)

What is it you don't like about it anymore?

It's that story-- but he has a much harder edge in the story than the character he turned into late S1. He's much less self-confident than in the story. It hurts that I think the story was really IN character for early S1, and that mid-season he became this totally different character. It's like two people played by the same actor, and I never like that in writing.

I just really liked those particular characters (also the briefly-glimpsed Reverend Maillor). There was depth to them that I miss in the writing in general, a lot of the time.

And who am I kidding? I always loved Pope for his ideals, and Westmoreland just because. Though the cat in his cell probably helped. ;)

Re: jewels667
Really?

The only thing about C-Note after the first half was him and T-Bag playing the poker game together. Plus, beating the crap of that guy in the laundry room to steal something.

Other than that, I was just talking to somebody that it's fascinating that the guy with the most moronic reason for breaking out (just to keep up his lie about being in prison? or to explain himself to his wife? Couldn't he have done that on the phone?) ended up being the only character who manages to get away :D

I wish I had enough money to drag everyone there. It was such a good time and I just wish everyone could have experienced it first hand.

I didn't get to see it. I miss Lincoln so any thing in his POV would be totally awesome! Thank you for the support. It's a hard road but I know it will be worth it. Hugs!!

Okay, I have two things now, and one of them is sure to please you.

The first is the Lincoln Angst drabble for pbficsurvivor, which I can finally post now. It's here.

And the second is Michael/Lincoln Slash, from Lincoln's POV, a total PWP piece I wrote just for you right here. It isn't on the order of "Oasis Of Being," but I hope you like it anyway.

Many happy returns, and best wishes for the coming year!
