Supernatural Gen Drabble: No Peace To Call His Own
Title: No Peace To Call His Own
Author: HalfshellVenus
Character: Sam (Gen, Angst)
Rating: PG
Summary: Season 3 drabble on "Sight" for 100_ghosts.

x-x-x-x-x

What Sam said was true—the visions are gone now, like a switch being flipped. No more crowding in of random images, no screaming-danger-death he can't prevent or just turn off when he knows it's too late.

He thought it would be blissful, a return to the silence he'd had before. But instead new pictures fill his head—Dean's year running out, his body so hopelessly still as Sam places it on a pyre and burns the last of his family and his past away all at once.

He'd give anything to see the way to stop that future cold.

Oh... :(

This makes me think of the progression of suck from S1 to now. I mean, can you imagine going back to the pilot and telling Sam, 'oh, you think Jess dying and your father missing is bad? Sit tight, baby.'

Poor Sammy.

It's true-- and would have been Dean last year except that he flipped that final piece of pain onto Sam instead.

Because in the end, if it all goes as badly as it could, it'll be Sam who finally loses everyone. Possibly himself, too, depending on where that Mytharc goes. *angsts*

Oh, Sam.

Such an awesome line there. Great job on this drabble!

Thank you! Oh, the war here between the images that fill Sam's head when the one thing he really needs is nowhere to be found. :(

Well done, lady. :-)
Cheers ~

Sorry! It's my specialty, I guess. I really thought about an "angst" warning on this one-- going to add it now.

so bittersweet, the loss of something that plagued him for so long being perhaps a viable solution to their main problem this season.

Doesn't bittersweet just describe so much of the Winchesters' lives? Whether it's good memories tainted with loss or darkness, or something like this where an ability that plagued Sam is finally gone, and now he thinks if only he could have it back there just might be a chance. *sigh*

Wow. Just...wow.

Don't want to let my Sam angst get rusty-- and the prompt just turned in this direction almost automatically for me. All those visions, in so many forms, that he doesn't want-- and to have the only one he needs just elude him. *wibble*

Poor Sammy. *hugs him* good job.

This is where the "selfishness" comment Sam threw out at Dean really hits home. If one of them has to be the "last man standing" when the other Winchesters are gone, it might be easier for Sam than Dean, but not by much. What a thing to force onto someone else. :(

Damn, how do you do this? How do you put so much into so few words? And then merrily rip out my heart and stomp it into dust?

Very well done. As always.

And then merrily rip out my heart and stomp it into dust?

Yay! Or wait... maybe that's not quite the appropriate response. Except that's exactly the reaction I was hoping for with this drabble, so it still feels like cruel victory of a sort.

After early S2 when John died, I didn't think the show could get much angstier. And then AHBL1 happened! And now we're in S3, where the ache isn't quite visible every day, but we all know the potential is there. And oh, how we worry about how Kripke might use it. *wibble*

Oh, what a perfect icon to go with this drabble-- right down to the shattered, ungraspable font.

Can't take credit for the icon. It's by dodger_winslow. Since I'm frequently at a loss for words when commenting on stories, I look for cool fonts to steal and use : )

Ironic, isn't it, it used to be Dean who was so afraid of being alone.

Oh Sam ...

it used to be Dean who was so afraid of being alone.
It still is-- but he forgot what a burden that would place on Sam in the end, when he made that crossroads pact. :(

oh, sam. who would've thought he'd WANT the visions back.... anything to get dean out of his deal, tho.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Sam & Dean Genhalfshellvenus on November 8th, 2007 05:29 pm (UTC)
anything to get dean out of his deal, tho.

As desperate as Dean was when he made that deal, how much more desperate will Sam grow to undo it? Not just the ache of knowing he's going to lose Dean, but the guilt over having someone choose your life at that price... Gah.

So sad, and it hints at all the conflicts Sam is having.
The Coalition For Disturbing Metaphors: Samhalfshellvenus on November 8th, 2007 05:31 pm (UTC)
Those conflicts are among the things I really want the show to get down and 'wallow' in this season. I want to see the flip side of the devotion Dean's shown Sam, I want to see the angst over the impossible position Dean put Sam in... and I want Sam to do himself and us proud-- I'm really itching to see the strong side of grownupSammy. This is the season for it, if nothing prior to this was. *hopes*

It makes you wonder just how far Dean thought that decision through, if at all. There was what he wanted, which was for Sam to be the one who survives and to buy another year with Sam... but oh god, the things Sam will have to go through in the end. :(
