Mwah-ha-ha!
Happy Halloween, everyone! I hope you and yours are having a wonderful day, filled with costumes and candy. And if you didn't see THIS picture when I posted it last week, you should all run over and peek. :D

Pumpkin Earrings: I had to take these off mid-day yesterday at work, because one of them was making my ear itch fiercely. :( Will resurrect them for taking the kids out trick-or-treating tonight, though!

Mommage: I was up late the last two nights trying to modify Lauren's Halloween costume. She wants to be an Evil Fairy (Lauren's all about inventing her own costumes half the time), and we could not find a suitable costume that was warm enough to trick-or-treat in. However, we found black wings and I made a black fairy wand, and I'm fixing up her "Countess of Darkness" costume from last year. This is the tricky part...

Last year's costume needs about 4 inches of length (more in the front), and a piece across the chest to close the open part Lauren's always hated. I've got black crushed-something fabric, and spiderweb mesh fabric to do both parts. Found out over the last 2 nights that the base fabric is really stretchy (and curls up!!!), and the mesh fabric is not. Ironed on fusible interfacing to stiffen the edges of the one fabric. Tried to adhere spider-web mesh to it—and the iron randomly melted it. Ripped, resewed, ripped, resewed, added extension pieces several times, finally got the bottom done last night at midnight. Argh! Will finish the chest part today... And if Lauren didn't have such touchy skin, I would've used felt as the base fabric and been done 2 days ago! *grumbles*

Ficcage: I finished my spn_halloween story yesterday, a pornSnark extravaganza! I think the Prison Break ficlet isn't going to happen, because I've got another story due for pbficsurvivor by Saturday a.m., and it's a workday.

Also... not doing the stalker meme in any way, shape or form because of lack of time (see ficlist and holiday ramblings above). So if you didn't hear from me, you'll know why...

ETA: Crap! Can I FOR ONCE not get so excited about House, M.D. being on that I forget to record Reaper? Criminy-- we'll be 3/6 now on episodes we've actually seen. *flogs self*

*whispers* Caramel-apple candy corn... you know you want some. ;)

This is the first Halloween in a long time that I didn't make ANY of the costumes. I'm... kinda sad about it?! :\ Weird!

Hope you and the kidlets have an awesome evening!

I know what you mean though-- that means "off-the-shelf" commercialized stuff, which is less cute somehow.

In the past, I have
1) Created butterfly antennae out of milk-jug widget, cardboard and tinfoil
2) Made a "Little Engine That Could" 3-D train costume for Christopher
3) Made a "Pink Cat" costume for Lauren (see what I mean about the invented stuff? She can never pick the easy choice, like "Black Cat").
4) Modified "Little Engine That Could" costume to be "Thomas The Tank Engine" \o/
5) Made Peter Pan costume out of lots of felt!
6) Made Tinkerbell shoes with base shoes, a glue gun, pompons, and two kinds of fabric (again, stretchy base and evil mesh top-- the unravelling kind in this case).
7) Modified too-small "Shrek" costume by stretching the middle so Christopher could wear it.

Most of this is "fixing up" rather than creating, and that's almost worse, I think. :0

Dude, you're such a champ. I majored in Fashion Design and I still never plan on sewing costumes for my kids--way too much freaking work! *is duly impressed*

Oh it will happen, trust me!

My husband asked once when I was sewing something, "What pattern are you using?" Bwah-ha-ha-ha! Most of my sewing involves workarounds for other problems (damaged finish on a changing-table dresser that will be hidden, stuff like that). Patterns will not help you there!
