The Countdown begins...
I know all the rest of you are waiting for the new Supernatural episode tonight. Whoo! I'm hoping there's more SamAndDean in it, and less assy!Dean and siloedSam. More brotherly love, fewer hamburgers and random catting around.

BUT... my personal countdown is one more day until 44. Yipes! I can't believe I'll be entering my mid-forties tomorrow. Where does the time go? Also, I want good things out of this year, because my math-freak side says "multiple of 11" should mean something good.

~*~

The Halloween decorations are not entirely up yet. I got waylaid by Wincon (yay Wincon!), but also (do not laugh) I have to de-spider my porch before I can put up my decorations. Ironically, the decorations happen to include fake spiders.

Sacramento's spiders make me nuts. There are tons of different kinds (Black Widow, anyone?), but I really hate the ones that make "froth." You can vacuum the web AND the spiders, and in a few weeks the mess is back. I'm also afraid of my porch light, which is a major habitat. I cleaned it once, wearing rubber gloves (huge brown spider in there) and holding the shop-vac. But they always come back...

And hopefully less Lame!chick.

I just don't get why the emasculating chick is embraced by the fandom, while Jo, who didn't emasculate Dean or Sam, was rejected.

And happy early birthday!

Seems to be because she was introduced to be a love interest for Dean rather than a real character, and as female!Dean in her first appearance was kind of a MarySue. And then in "No Exit" she came off as more of a 12-year-old, so although better liked (and human) in that episode it screamed of character inconsistency. (Sorry-- not a fan of Jo. But not a huge fan of pseudoBuffy 2.0 yet. Jury's still out).

Sometimes I think Dean needs to be emasculated, though. I.e., reminded that women are not all frail flowers, and that he is not necessarily personally King of Everything (which alternates with his I Am Dirt angst). ;)

Birthdays-- just hope anyone remembers, after the Wincon flailing and the fact that innie_darling is better known (her birthday is today).

Plus, I'm at the age where I now fear cake. To be 10 again, and live for cake like my daughter does! *sigh*
black_regalia on October 18th, 2007 05:33 pm (UTC)
Yeah. I definitely didn't start liking her until No Exit, when she started to become a character, and not just another blonde waif insert.

I'm more okay with Lame!Chick after last episode, than I was after the first. I can deal with her being a villain/anithero. If they try to set her up as a love interest for Sam, though, that would suck x_x I mean, for starters, Sam's so serial monogamist, I don't see him getting into a thing with someone unless it was serious, and number two, sleeping with her would constitute as rape, as the possessed body isn't necessarily willing.

I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best! >>

Yeah, I'd fear that too. Because it would mean that they're f**king with his character for the sake of ratings, and nothing pisses me off more. Let him be true to Sam-- it's why we love him.

and number two, sleeping with her would constitute as rape, as the possessed body isn't necessarily willing.
You know, I don't really like the aspect that EVERY demon is borrowing a human body. The show really has gone that way, and while I like the idea that sometimes people are possessed, I'd rather think that it isn't all the time-- that some demons have the power simply to manifest in human form without hijacking someone. But thus far, it's as you say.

I can deal with her being a villain/anithero.
That actually works better for me in 3x02 than in the previous episode, because I totally fear the MarySue thing and the "bestest hunter ever!" appearance of someone we've never heard of. God, I hate this paranoia about "what is the show" vs. "what is the network doing to the show." I want the show just to be what it is, and not forced into weirdness and lameness by some Suit's idea of demographic appeal. That is almost always deadly to the core of the larger story and characters. *bites fingernails*

I am going to be away and I don't want to miss this so...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

I hope you have a beautiful, wonderful, fulfilling day and that every day of the next year brings you much joy.

Thank you so much, witchy! I sure hope it's a good year (the last one has had some real rough spots), and that it continues on a better path.

Hope you enjoy your mini-vacation. Are you researching potential places to live, or just having fun?
When it is darkest, men see the stars.witchofthedogs on October 18th, 2007 06:44 pm (UTC)
Both!

I'm going to be picking up newspapers and checking out classifieds along with just enjoying my first vacation in about seven years.

I saw your note on your journal, but since I know zip about New England I had no recommendations. Hope you find something-- prospects or ideas-- while you're vacationing! *hugs*

GAH Supernatural !!! I just... bleh !

Yeah. I'm worried. I saw your comments in your journal about Dean's OOC trend, and I have the exact same fears.

He gave up his life for Sam because he couldn't stand living without him, and now he dumps him off at a motel for a random fuck with some girl he hasn't seen in 8-9 years (and who could be married or dead or whatever)? Dean has that in him, but it doesn't seem right in the current timeframe.

I live in a spoiler-free world, though I've heard hints about network demands for female characters and that both worries me and hacks me off. If a show has viewers, it's because they like what they see-- so leave it alone. If you want to attract still more viewers, WTF makes you think that messing with it is going to accomplish that? Not to mention alienating the viewers you already have? Someone at Wincon put it really well: in general, guys do not tend to watch The CW. Fucking up your show to pander to the golden "male demographic" IS NOT LIKELY TO CHANGE THAT.

I hope to got I'm not going to spend the year trying to find an AU happy place while the show goes to suck, because I'm already doing that for Prison Break and one show's enough. You know what I want? Brotherly love-- more of it-- and zombies. And a squeaker of a happy resolution for Dean's Sword of Damocles Fate. That's what I want out of Season 3.

/rantiness, and back to the original part: thank you for the birthday thoughts!
Skywalker-Winchesteranakin415 on October 18th, 2007 09:52 pm (UTC)
so completely agree with you. I am working on a Dean meta I will be posting over the weekend maybe. I have an episode recap at my myspace page if you want to read it. Dean was much closer to "Dean" this episode. Tonight though... we will see.

Prison Break... GAH too. That one is kinda breaking my heart as well. Is it not sad when fans can take a show a make it better themselves ?

I hope your birthday will be great ! Are you making your own cake ?

God yes. That's been true since S2 minimum for that show. Though S3 at least inspired me to write a spectacular CrackFic-- ~3200 words! The show mandated it-- my husband read it and kept saying things like "The guy in his underwear-- that's so funny, what made you think of that?" "That's actually happening on the show now..."

My daughter is making my cake, which removed my chance of getting a miniCake from Safeway that will not be in the house for days on end to tempt me. I have NO willpower, especially when sugar and chocolate are involved. Argh!

You lived in Davis, so you know exactly what kind of pseudo-Daddy-longlegs mess-makers I'm talking about.

Gah. I hate spiders so much. :0
aeroport_art: Office harrumphaeroport_art on October 19th, 2007 01:39 am (UTC)
Ugghhhh are you talking about those really thick spider strings that float everywhere and never come out? I didn't know what the spiders actually looked like. But those were Gross, especially when you'd try and avoid them or bat it away and just end up looking like a crazy person on the streets =_=

"BUT... MY personal countdown is one more DAY UNTIL 44."

If it will comfort you dear, in two years I come to join the club, too.
But if YOU will have a look at my journal NOW, I promise there's something for you...

P.S. I hope, that I'm able for watching SN tonight!!
