Prison Break Pimpage...
So first of all, does everyone know that a new round of the Prison Break Fanfic Awards has started up?

Lots of different rules this time, so be sure you read the post. Only the 8 most-nominated stories from any category will move forward, so I suspect many of us will fall right out of the picture-- that seems to me to make it more of a popularity contest than anything. Hope I'm wrong. :(

Since you can only submit ONE nomination form, you'll need to have all your target stories ready, so I suggest bookmarking the spot and delaying a little because...

~~~~~> the Prison Break Fic Exchange will post up the author reveal from this last round on Thursday, and then we need time for people to post their stories up under their own names at prisonbreakfic.net. *koff* Please don't make me email you and nag you to post your story at the website for this exact reason, this time around. *koff*
If you haven't checked out the offerings for Round Five of the PB Fic Exchange, I encourage you to do so. There's a lot of variety-- Gen for several different characters, Michael/Sara, Michael/Lincoln, Lincoln/Sara (3-5 of these!), Michael/Mahone. There's angst, drama, schmoop, humor and AU. Try it, you'll like it!
And then you can go to the Guessing Post and try to ID the authors before the reveal. If I didn't have the super-secret decoder ring, I doubt I'd get more than one or two of them myself!
Great round of PBFE. Read loads of them and while I'm lousy at guessing it was some really great reading.
As for the awards I sincerely hope people will see that with only the top 8 in each cat moving forward it is more important than ever to nominate the very best of the best with no thought to popularity, author affection, or ANYTHING apart from the fic being the very top offering in any given cat.
We only had the top 8 in the first round too, it worked out pretty well, so I remain optimistic.
Oh, but the problem here is, what if you haven't READ the top 8? I.e., you think you have, but in fact someone else knows of better stories than you?
When the first round noms are wide open, people get a chance to see what others consider the top stories, and can read them ALL. Then they make an informed vote (one hopes) for the first round, and the top BBB fics advance to the final round.
Having it be only the top 8 NOMINATED fics means that it WILL be a popularity contest. I.e., the best-known authors and best-known stories are going to dominate the nominations simply because more people will be familiar with them and put them forward. Meanwhile, the gems of stories that only a few people know about but which are in fact perhaps better stories... will get lost in the shuffle. :(
To me, it makes a bad situation worse. Two rounds are better, for bringing stories to people's attention in the first round and then voting among the preliminary group following that.
Oh I don't think its all that bad.
We started up Fan Fic Fridays and the thread was filled with loads of great, not just popular, fic recs.
Don't you think the fact past winner, stories, are not able to win again will help people think longer and dig deeper?
You think I'm being too optimistic don't ya?
And WHY is there no response to this thread other than you and I?
WHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhY??????????????????????
